Depriving Unicorn-Americans of roles by human-washing the characters….

Huh. They changed the name of that comic from when I last read it.

Odd.

Though I suppose the new name is better than Heavenly Nostrils, though that's a pretty low bar to clear.

To be fair, though, Unicorn-Americans have long struggled to make the silver screen. After the failure of abstinence-only education (and the scandal in the Catholic church revealing that half of their primary demographic couldn't see them), they have really been having trouble. Children's television is alright, but it doesn't pay that well. :ajsleepy:

It's weird how few people on this site know of the comic.

I am not sure what I am giggling at more, the blog, or 3363868's post.

Eh, I don't know. Heavenly Nostrils gave it a sort of ridiculous, humorous feel about it. Phoebe and her Unicorn sounds generic.

They're both pretty terrible names. Heavenly Nostrils tells you nothing about what the comic is about, while Phoebe and her Unicorn is tepid and generic.

You know you want the whole set, Phoebe! And after your first Unicorn-iCon, there's no going back.

3363968 she had to change it a few months ago for the newspaper syndication launch.

I love this comic. Dana Simpson actually has an upcoming guest chapter appearance for me I need to gently prod her about at EQLA.

3363868 Those who pay the dough get to name the bread. I would imagine it would be a little difficult to get a group of less-than-humored newspaper executives to agree to print a comic with the word 'nostrils' in it. Dana Simpson is as *awesome* as Rainbow Dash. Well, at least very, very close.

I didn't realize it got syndicated and put in like, actual, real-life newspapers. Crazy. I know that's an awfully competitive business to get into.

And full of awful things. Seriously, newspaper comics are terrible. :ajsleepy:

3364091 "Seriously, newspaper comics are terrible." - In a way, it's because of the godawful pressure of having to be a genius *every day* for seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. The burnt shells of Doonsbury and Calvin and Hobbes litter the halls.

Scott Adams writes some very wonderful stories about his struggles with creativity and how Dilbert was pretty iffy for a while until he posted his email and the story ideas just *poured* in. Excellent cartoonist, even if he admits he can't draw very well, and excellent speaker, even if he admits he can't speak very well, and wonderful writer. Some cartoonists are just godawful rivers of productivity, producing such amazing products as Girl Genius and Schlock Mercenary on a regular basis over a *HUGE* range of days. I'm lucky if the Muse wanders by once a week to scratch at the door before fleeing in terror.

That's a pretty old comic... I haven't checked that comic in ages and yet I know I saw that one :rainbowwild:

Unicorn Americans!

Oh, how I lol'd!

I love this strip. It's the only one I follow, aside from the old Calvin & Hobbes. Heavenly Nostrils will always be how I refer to the strip, regardless of mainstream pandering. I mean, we're all accustomed to that, right? Moving on!

I wonder what it says that when I read the blog title I immediately thought Phoe from EQD. Probably just that she's the Phoebe I interact with the most.

It's definately worth getting the books collecting the strips, and I believe theres a third on the way.

The Guard down here in Eugene picked it up almost immediately. We've already had two or three letters to the editor complaining about it. Meanwhile, Pluggers continues to run without a peep.

3364591 Same! But that would be Phoebe and Her Stuffed Shark, clearly.

I don't read it regularly (I read a bunch at one point in the past, then stopped and never went back), but I can certainly think of newspaper comics that deserve continued syndication a lot less than this one. Like, three quarters of them, at least. At least this comic is usually funny.

3366630 I'm not that much of a nerd. I didn't start working on my dissertation until high school.
