Alright. I've got to come clean: I've been slacking off.
You see... there was a month-long event in World of Tanks where, in order to earn things (and it was a lot of things), you had to earn a certain amount of experience every day. And a friend of mine and I decided to give it a go.
Well we didn't realize that, alongside days where the two of us were on fire... we'd have the days where we had to slog through the requisite experience. It took more of my evenings than I expected it to.
So that was a month of not working, turns out.
I had some good times, and I didn't burn out on World of Tanks but... well I didn't get much writing done. At least the last chapter was published in June so I don't have to feel too bad, but it's still not a great solution.
The other problem is... it's discouraging writing my long fic. There are a lot of reasons for this, and my brain is good at coming up with more, but beyond that, I am inclined to trust the prevailing wisdom that one should cut their teeth on shorter works. I certainly did better with my short fic than my long one, although that's for many more reasons than it happened to be shorter, including that I was a better writer when I started.
That being said... I'm considering a dalliance with yet another new fic. Well... two actually. An almost-oneshot is probably 10-15k words spread out among a handful of chapters, and another that I'm guessing is I can get done around 50 or 60k, but I'm sure, like ReSearch, I'll wind up underestimating the amount of stuff in it.
Did you know I figured by 60k words I'd be in the last act of ReSearch? True story. Instead I'm partway through Act 2. At least I'm out of Act 1.
Neither of the two stories focus on Spike, actually! One has Spike in it because Twilight is in it, but the other doesn't even take place in Ponyville and as a result Spike doesn't even show up.
I'm trying to branch out.
Anyway, I'm blogging here because, whether it's finishing chapters in ReSearch, or starting either of my two new projects, I'd like to give myself a sense of accountability. And because I'd like to actually start blogging a bit about things. More things than just whether my story has updated or not.
But writing should come first, so unless I'm writing I shouldn't be spending much of my time writing blogs.
