I will be at EQLA! · 5:42am Aug 31st, 2015
And so will Lauren Faust, evidently, and I have mixed feelings about this. See, I originally signed on to go because it's practically in my backyard, so I think of it as a low-pressure con. There's nothing I have to do or see, so I can just leave if I'm bored or tired and not feel bad about it. Then they announced Bonnie Zacherle, and I was legit excited. No, I'm not a G1 fan, but I can't help but be interested in the origins of the toys and the show. I wanted to see her and what she had to say.
Then this happened.
Yeah yeah yeah I know I know I know, she hasn't been to anything in dog's years and OMG so exciting, but at the same time, I'm worrying about LINES. Lines to pick up registration materials, lines to get in to see Bonnie Zacherle, because that's a dual event with Lauren Faust now. I mean, I figured they'd have Bonnie Zacherle on at like God o clock in the morning, and the hard part would be rolling out of bed early enough to drive down there because nobody cares about G1 and I'd have the place almost all to myself. "Self," I said to myself, "this will be like the customizing ponies demo you went to a couple of years ago. It'll be a handful of ladeez, and it'll be fun." But now it's going to be all popular and there will be lines from hell, I bet. Lines from hell.
But, so, anyway, I'm going. I'll be at the Bonnie Zacherle event and the Comic Artists panel. Also there's a panel called The Female Voices of the Fandom. And while it's at 9 AM Sunday, I want to try to go because the Lost Narrator is going to be on it, and she did that nice reading of Goodbye, Boneless.
Feel free to say hi. I have no idea if there's a special hangout for fanfic writers or whatever. I notice there's a bad fanfic reading, though. I can't tell you what I'll be wearing other than "a pony shirt, probably." I went to a lot of trouble to fix up my Cherry Jubilee cosplay, but it's been 102 degrees out and I'm taking mega antibiotics, and I think I just want to be comfortable and chill.
But yeah--do feel free to come up and say hi. And if you're going, let me know in the comments.
Oh, and why not, because Earthsong9405 is so awesome and I really enjoy her art and enjoyed meeting her:
Good Night, by willisninety-six
Timeless Magic, also by willisninety-six
I guess I AM kind of stoked to see them together. In fact, maybe Baby Firefly and Baby Surprise will stow away in my purse.
When I caught wind of that announcement my alarms instantly went off. Last I checked there was a lot of drama, both real and manufactured, centered around Lauren's involvement and leaving the show (and beyond) aaaaaaaand yeah not only would I expect those lines to be huge, but the Q&A session to be painful.
Sigh.
On a positive note those pictures are fantastic.
3359598 I just don't want that stuff to upstage Bonnie Zacherle, y'know? I'm not a collector or anything, but at this point, I want to hear from people I haven't heard from before.
Q & A often is painful. People ask questions like "what's happening next season," which they can't tell you, and "is my ship canon" (never ask them this, people: what do you think they'll say?), and there's not a whole lot left. One of the ones I really enjoyed was William Anderson, who does the background music. It was a perspective I hadn't heard.
Aren't they nice pictures? I had such a nice time meeting with Earthsong, which is funny, because the first time I saw her art, it was being used without her permission or credit for a really terrible story. But she is a very pleasant person, and I bought her headcanon book.
