New Story, Same Process · 5:44pm Aug 22nd, 2015
If someone asked me a week ago when I would be posting a story I would have looked at them like they were crazy. Me? Writing? You must be mad. I read stories, I don't write them. Recently I have been quite taken by the Quill n Blade setting made by Anzel and Crystal Wishes. I have primarily been playing on the Crystal side of the setting with a focus on Velvet Step.
It all started with another user (an artist) drawing up a few joke covers to poke fun at Crystal Wishes. Seeing this I instantly knew that the joke hadn't been taken far enough. I stepped up to the challenge and busted out a short 600 word blurb putting up on a fake account made to look like it was by an in universe pseudonym of the pony Crystal Wishes. I left it as an unpublished joke story with fake tags even going so far as to give it an x00 word count to further perpetrate the troll. Feeling my job was done I sat back and got ready to enjoy the fallout.
While it was some good fun imagine my surprise when Crystal commented that if I added another 400 words I could actually publish it to this site. Brushing that suggestion off (it was just a big joke right?) I went out before I was gripped a mere 30 minutes later with the urge to put down more words. Before I knew it my little joked had turned into a short, I cleaned it up with the proper tags, added some actual cover art, changed the account name and the story was in the approval queue.
I sat back thinking, wow, how in the world did words swarm out of my mind and reassemble themselves on the screen. I couldn't figure out the why, but I know I felt compelled to do it. Even feeling more energetic and to excited to sleep at times. Still though it was done. I had written the first non-school or work related words in well over 10 years, maybe closer to 20. The only thing I can remember clearly from the last time was that I was in an alcove in the house typing away about something on a Pentium 90, yes 90Mhz, the phone you are reading this on right now dwarfs the power of that old computer.
Imagine my surprise when just the other day I was again grabbed by the scruff of my neck and told in no uncertain terms that I was going to write more words or my brain wouldn't shut up. We reached a compromise by quickly jotting down the below story 'plan' before forcing myself to get what sleep I could. The next day bright and early I sat down and flailed wildly on my keyboard until yet another story was off to the approval queue.
I have been part of other groups on and off this site and I don't know why this time I am suddenly unable to control my fingers at times, but I am starting to like it and won't rule out more in the future. Thank you for whatever witchcraft you have wrought that has inspired me.
Beware reading further this spoils Second Step as it is the outline. Spoilers apparently don't work very well on it, so if you scroll further you will be spoiled.

At least this time I published when people are likely to be awake to approve. Still refreshing the main page and not seeing new stories go up at all.
