They say misery loves company. Not quite. I love Misery's company.

    Important Announcement

For this post, I will be abstaining from my usual routine of self-deprecating humor. I want to be serious about this.

Last Friday, I posted a bonus chapter for my story Chasing a Dream. I received a few comments from readers who were excited about the fact that the story wasn't dead.

I'll start this duel off by activating Familiar Judgment. This spell card can only be activated when the reader is too familiar with the author of the novel and cannot separate the two. Instead of reading a novel about interesting characters and being fully invested, I'm reading a novel about interesting characters written by M.A. Larson. As such, full investment is nearly impossible, because the nagging thought that I somewhat know the author and that he wrote the words I'm reading pulls me out of the experience. As such, I shall gracefully self-impose a handicap by granting you 1000 Life Points.

However, don't think that means I'll be going easy on you. I still intend to scrutinize your work. Prepare yourself, for I summon Vague Detail in attack mode. When the author manages to describe characters and settings in detail but fails to make the details vivid enough to easily imagine as a snapshot, the whole story becomes more difficult to visualize as it is read, and the opponent takes 800 points of effect damage. But since it's my first turn, I can't attack directly, so I end my turn.

Fascinating. You activated Twist on a Cliche. You caught me off-guard by making me expect a common trope in stories, amnesia in particular, only to change it up in a way I hadn't foreseen. Now I can't Special Summon on my next turn due to the surprise. Well-played.

What? You're not finished? You activate the Field Spell Worldbuilding Techniques? Damn. Now your Lore monsters gain 500 ATK, and all because you expertly managed to establish a fascinating world of kingdoms, magic, monsters, and politics, all while still leaving much yet to be revealed.

And of course you summon Female Lead of Lore. Why wouldn't you? What? When you have a Lore monster, you can summon Love Child of R. Lee Ermey and Navi from your hand? And it inflicts 500 effect damage to me for each Lore monster on the field? Damn! But at least it can't attack this turn. But Female Lead of Lore can, and it's stronger than my Vague Detail by 600 ATK. Damn. It's been destroyed since your descriptions are becoming better. I guess that was a really good turn, but at least you're done now.
