First Post-Colorado blog.
This game.
Probably like, one of my favorite games of all time.
Seriously.
Ok... Where to begin....
To preface, I made my Custom Character a man, but made 'him' look as feminine as possible- not that hard, really- and referred to her as a Female the whole game. This is because I am, in fact, gay, and the Support Sytem can only S-class Male/Female, no F/F. The Terminology will make sense down the road.
Her name is Logan.
ON WITH THE RAMBLING!
So, I've never played a Fire Emblem game before this, and let me just say:
There are Three difficulty settings, and Two game 'modes'.
You have Easy/Difficult/Insanity, and Classic/Casual.
PLAYING ON ANYTHING BUT CASUAL/EASY IS HARD AS BALLS.
Now, it's possible, and Difficult/Casual is, y'know, possible, but the differance between Classic and Casual:
Casual: Dead Units will come back after each battle.
Classic: Dead Units are Lost Forever.
I would have never beaten the game on Classic. Ever.
So, yeah, Fire Emblem is a turn-based stratagy RPG with Supereffectives, Character Relationships, and Difficult-but fun-Dicisions.
All characters have a specific class, and all classes can do different things. EG, Archers can wield bows, Priest/Cleric can heal, Tactician gets Magic and Swords, that kinda thing.
Now, these classes can be changed using a 'Second Seal,' allowing for more customization within your army, or Promoted using a 'Master Seal'. EG, Mercenary promotes to Hero (Gains Axe use), Archer to Bow Knight (Mounted, gains Swords), Pegasus Knight to Dark Rider (Gains Magic).
There are also four archetypes of unit: On-Foot, Mounted, And Pegasus/Wyvren Rider.
On-Foot units have the slowest movement, but only suffer from Weapon Triangle (Swords beat Axes, Axes beat Lances, Lances beat Swords) and occasionaly Armor bonus damage.
Mounted Units (Guys on Horses) are faster, but suffer from Mount bonus Damage, and the Weapon Triangle.
Pegasus Riders are the Fastest, and can cross any surface without harm, but suffer from Mount bonus Damage, Bow bonus damage, and Wind Magic bonus damage.
Wyvren Riders are the same as Pegasus Riders, but suffer from Bonus Dragon damage instead of Mount damage.
So yeah, the combat is pretty in-depth.
The Character Relationships are also pretty In-depth, thanks to the (new?) Support System.
Basically, if you 'Pair Up' Two units (Make one unit assist another, giving Bonus Stats, Assisting with attacks, Occasuaonaly Blocking for you) they will gain Relationship-ness, of which there are Three (Four for opposite Sex partners) rankings, C, B, A, and S. S is marriage.
That's right, it's Shipping Central. And, after completing the Thirteenth story mission, certain Characters (If married) can find their Kids from the Future and recruit them for the cause! And then they can get married too.

Fire Emblem Awakening is amazing.

EDIT: Yeah, that's right, Avatar change. Last thing Epic enough to warrant that was Gurren Lagann, so yeah, I'm serious about Fire Emblem.
