Bronycon Panels & Twilight Sparkle's Not-So-Secret Shipfic Folder Translation! · 7:15pm Aug 3rd, 2015

As I've announced a long time ago, I am indeed making another appearance at Bronycon for the fourth straight year. This time, however, I will be attending as a panelist!

I am privileged enough to be on Pen Stroke's Sizing Fanfiction to the Idea panel on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 in the evening. It should be a lot of fun, and I'd love to see you there. Besides Pen and myself, WandererD, ABagOVicodin, and Cyborg Samurai will also be there, so it should be a smashing event.

But that's not all. I submitted a panel of my own this year, and it got approved! I am indeed the man behind the "Writing Comedy: How to Make Your Horses Hilarious" panel. This one is a bit easier to make, as it's on Sunday morning at 10, running until 11, and no major VIP panels clash with it, so you've got no excuse not to be there! Joining me will be ABagOVicodin, Totallynotabrony, Aquaman, and the almighty Skywriter!

Besides that, I will mainly be bouncing between VIP panels on the mane stage and most of the fanfic panels, weaving in the odd food break and trip to the vendor hall, so those should be your best bet if you want to find me. I'll try to cut some events I have less interest in for some time in Quills and Sofas, but that's always difficult.

And speaking of me getting to run Bronycon's first ever comedy panel, one of my better-known comedy works, Twilight Sparkle's Not-So-Secret Shipfic Folder, has been translated into French! Little Parrot, a native French-speaker, generously decided to translate the story. This is the first time anybody has translated my work into another language, to my knowledge, so it's pretty awesome. You can find the link to the translation in the story's description, or you can check it out here.

I hope to see a bunch of you there this coming weekend.

How could I not? I'm really glad people are enjoying the French version. I'm kind of curious if any of my jokes don't translate well, as something that's funny in one language can just not make sense when directly translated into another, especially when it comes to puns.

3295255 Actually, I don't recall any pun in this story, so I had no problem with their translation. Some expressions you used have their equivalent in French (like "Spike's eyes grew to the size of dinner plates", which in French is "Spike's eyes grew to the size of saucers", so it's almost the same), some have no real equivalent (like "He giggled himself to sleep", which I translated "He fell asleep while giggling"... I prefer the English version but we can't say it that way in French).
All in all, this translation was easy for me. Some previous ones have been a lot more complicated, especially the ones with puns that I could'nt translate because they didn't mean anything in French (either I found another joke that fitted the situation, or I left a footnote to explain the pun to the French readers).

Oh, that's interesting. Good to know! Thanks again for doing all this.
