"I know I'm rusty, but jeez it still sucks being told the story I wrote did do well. "

Don't you mean didn't?

3264686 I'm guessing he's not content with the poorer reception he's getting on his newer stories despite not knowing what goes into getting a story marketed properly.

Great I even fucked up an extremely short blog with a typo I shoulda known about.

No the story isn't doing well. It's written poorly and I knew that, but seeing reviews of it all of the sudden caught me by surprise, and well they weren't mean but it still didn't score the story well so further cements the obviousness of my Mars dust.

3264732 You're talking about the Pewee fic? You didn't post it in any groups, and that hurt publicity. Just rub some dirt in it and carry on. You're not going to win them all, and that's a fact you'll have to come to terms with.

No it's not the fact that it's not getting enough attention. The entire story sucks overall. The story was reviewed by some well-known people here because the story is a submission to a particular contest, and now I know it has no chance at all. Not because of some grammatical issues, but because there was a significant plot point in the story that I didn't think would be a problem, but for the theme of this contest it does actually conflict.

Well, oopsy. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

3264825 If you don't like criticism, don't write for contests. Simple. Also your skill at detecting errors is outpacing your improvement as a writer, not that you're getting worse. If you went back and looked at your older stories, you'd probably wonder why anyone liked them. Just keep pushing forward, that's your growing pains.

Nah I like to receive criticism and feedback, but that doesn't mean I can't feel bummed about negative feedback, right? To be honest, I only wrote for the contest to get back on my feet at writing. I felt that if I didn't participate at all, I'll never write again. I'm just really bummed out though and facing reality, but uh this is hardly enough to stop me from writing more.

I think I did this contest just to see where I'm at now.

Pretty much I guess.

3264899 A good friend of mine told me that it's better to write a less ambitious project perfectly than to write a very ambitious project poorly. I hope that helps.

3264947 It's something insightful. Thanks.
