Apple Bloom on Equestrian Rape Culture, and Sympathy for the Haters. · 9:05am Jul 15th, 2015
So, right now I'm outlining a fic about Apple Bloom trying to do a presentation on Equestrian rape culture. Obviously, since that's such a touchy subject, it's going to cause some conflicts in both the kids and adults. I haven't quite decided yet what boys and girls I'll add in, we'll see.
The reason I'm posting this little blurb right now is because... well, I've gained a bit more sympathy for the brony haters recently. As it turns out, if you've watched very little pony material and followed it for a while, it's a lot harder to block out than if, say, you just stopped watching the TV show.
Just checking my YouTube feed, despite not watching any new episodes since the start of the Season, presented me with a thumbnail of Big Alitosh, and something about Princesses dreaming in episode 13. Checking FurAffinity got some confirmation regarding Fluttershy's pet play fetish (seriously?), and the Princess Spike thing slipped through as well. Don't remind me of the season opener making it on Sargon's channel.
I guess what I've learned is: there is no room for error in not wanting information. You have to unwatch people on social websites, you have to clear your history on YouTube, and pause it for good measure.
I can see why people hate MLP now, honestly: if you want to get away from it, you have to be a lot more thorough than going into it.
What do these two topics have to do with each other? Oh... you'll see.
I'd ask to avoid posting spoilers, but I'm starting to think that ship has sailed, honestly. Watching new episodes as they come out has indeed become more of an obligation than an option, which is ironic, because it has become so by circumventing the very mechanisms that would have it impossible to watch the show at will in the first place.
I don't know anymore, honestly. Maybe I'm just down in the dumps because our pet had another seizure or lameness, or whatever it is he's got.
I'll keep you posted when the rape culture fic is fleshed out and/or done.
True, but remember at least we aren't as bad as the tf2, minecraft, or dr who fandoms. They think their stuff improves everything.

I dunno, I seem to recall a couple of bronies claiming MLP was saving entertainment, or saving the world. In fact... that's it, verbatim.
Added that to my favorites in earnest when I joined the fandom, now I keep it as a reminder of how messed up everything is nowadays.
If you are trying to wait until the end of season before watching it, you are in for a long wait. Hasbro just announced after S05E13 that the season would be suspended for a few months.

I wouldn't bother holding off.
I tried to hold off on watching the second flick. That didn't work out at all, as I'm an active brony and have seen people slipping innocent spoilers that, in the end, sum up to me already knowing the entire flick blow by blow. The only way for me to not have gotten spoiled would have been to abandon the fandom, which I definitely didn't want to do.
Besides, you are really missing out. While Episode 100 was pure fan-service, and the single Spike-centric episode was painful to watch, I believe this is the best season so far. Everything about the show is becoming so much more mature, to the point where the episode "Amending Fences" has hardly any kiddy appeal at all.

Eh, I prefer to wait 'till the whole thing is done, is all. I don't like the vibe of it being an obligation that it's gotten. Besides that, there's the problem of amending fics in progress as new canon presents itself. Having to edit all the Moondancer stuff in my current project, for example, would have been a real drag.
Plus, still have procrastination issues. I kind of want to focus on the fic and artsy stuff, along with other RL concerns. Haven't even seen the second flick either, actually, or Double Rainboom. Heck, I have films recorded on our digicorder that have been on there for two years, and I haven't watched yet. So... yeah, holding off on ponies isn't a problem, just a symptom, let's say.
I'm sure it'll be good once I get around to it.
