Mariusioannesp Speculates Wildly: SDCC Season 5 Finale Clip and More! So Much More!

Greetings my Brony Brethren!

Another year, another San Diego International Comic Con to which every Maker-fearing nerd is obligated to make a hajj at least once in their lifetime. And another panel dedicated to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! There, the powers that be behind MLP shared a number of tidbits and exclusive first looks that our friendly friends at Equestria Daily were kind enough to share with us. I shall go through all the pieces of news they shared that I deem relevant piece by piece.

Now for the moment you all have been in no doubt waiting for. The SDCC panel also gave us an animatic from Season 5’s finale. Equestria Daily has it here.

It is now confirmed that Starlight Glimmer will be in the finale! So, what do we have here? Well, Twilight is discussing the Sonic Rainboom that led to her and her friends getting their cutie marks. You know from way back in Season 1’s “The Cutie Mark Chronicles”. Like I said before, this is the season of the callback. This is apparently part of a lecture Twilight is presenting. She then thinks she sees a familiar face in the audience, but when she looks up, she’s gone. As she returns home, she tells Spike all about how she thought she saw Starlight Glimmer in the audience. Spike suggests she’s come back for revenge, but he also reassures her that maybe she isn’t. And then when they get back to Twilight’s throne room, there she is! I like how Starlight is just sitting there with her back legs propped up on the table. She’s just chillin’ like she’s Chilli Palmer.

Now, the finale is supposedly called “The Cutie Re-Mark”. I’ve wondered what the “Re-Mark” of the title is meant to refer to. From this clip, we now have a clue. It starts with Twilight discussing the Sonic Rainboom that led to the Mane 6 getting their cutie marks. A question was asked about what would happen if the Rainboom didn’t happen, and they just said to wait for the finale. According to Meghan McCarthy in the past, the Cutie Map could do certain things with the right kind of magic. Starlight Glimmer was also very interested in Twilight’s cutie mark. This is what I think is going to happen. Starlight Glimmer is going to hijack the Cutie Map to somehow stop the Sonic Rainboom from happening, completely derailing the Mane 6’s destinies. She will also finagle it so she’s the one who get’s Twilight cutie mark. She’s not just stealing her cutie mark, but her very destiny as well! This is the “Re-Mark” of the title. It will then be up Twilight to get her friends back together to take back their destinies.

Another thing that was said was that we will be seeing some other villains from the past, but not in the way we expect it. I think this refers to the finale as well. With the Mane 6’s destinies altered, I don’t think they’d ever find the Elements of Harmony. That means they’ll never be able to defeat all the villains they have over the course of the series. I think we’re going to see them all come back in this episode. Maybe they’re working with Starlight Glimmer or perhaps they’re vying for ultimate power against each other in no holds bar Enemy civil war with Starlight Glimmer in the middle of it.

But what of Grogar? Does this mean we won’t be seeing him in the finale? I wouldn’t count him out. Perhaps given that Twilight would never have gotten a chance to return Cerebus to the gates of Tartarus, maybe something more than just Tirek got out. Something like Grogar. If it is the case that we will be seeing every villain MLP has ever had in the finale, Grogar, if he does appear, may end up figuring very little in this episode. But perhaps it’ll just merely serve to pre-establish Grogar’s character before having him appear as a main villain in Season 6. Kind of like what they did with Kuvira in Legend of Korra.

In the end, we’ll just have to wait and see.

GOOD GRAVY! My ears just had an orgasm! Now, I know the auditory orgasm is a phenomenon that many doubt actually happens, but I don’t care! This song is that good! This delightful little ditty is called "I Am Just A Pony." This without a doubt will be the best song of Season 5, quite possibly it’s MLP’s best song ever! That’s what happens when you give a song to a Tony Award-winning Broadway star.

Now, there are a few things of interest in this clip beyond the awesome song stylings of Lena Hall. The corner of this video has “524” among all those other numbers. This may indicate this is from the 24th episode of Season 5, the one that is supposed to be called “The Mane Attraction”. I did speculate that this episode may involve a performance. I might just be right about that. Also, we there is a brief focus on the the CMC and Applejack and what appears to be a few of her friends in the audience. It could just be that either of them are just in the audience, but it could be an indication that this episode will focus on either the CMC or Applejack. Applejack in particular is seen tearing up at the same moment as Lena Hall pony. That could be for two reasons. It could be because she’s personally invested in this pony’s success, which would mean this episode has been focused on her as much as Lena Hall pony. Or it could just be because this song is FRICKIN’ awesome!

But wait, there’s more! Equestria Daily has gone on to report that Lena Hall mentioned this song on her Instagram, noting that “one of my songs” was released as the SDCC.

We’ll just have to wait and see then. Now, let’s move on to some other delightful tidbits we got from SDCC’s MLP Panel. Equestria Daily has the full details here.

So first, they revealed that the then upcoming “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?” would open with Princess Luna becoming Nightmare Moon again and the Mane 6 stopping her with the Rainbow Power. Well, we all know that happened. So, next!

Here’s a rather shocking tidbit. Turns out, Fluttershy has a brother that we will be seeing soon. Hold the phone! Fluttershy has a brother! Once again, the show is introducing a sibling for one of the Mane 6 that has never been heard of before. Bronies weren’t too happy when they did it with Shining Armor, but didn’t mind it when it came to Maud Pie. So, this could go either way. I am at least curious as to what kind of brother Fluttershy would have. Perhaps, he is the opposite of Fluttershy and confident and self-assured. Perhaps, he’s the same and just as shy. Maybe he’s her twin brother, and it’ll be like canonizing the Rule 63 Fluttershy. This fraternal revelation leads me to speculate though that the supposed upcoming episode “Brotherhooves Social” will be the episode Fluttershy’s brother appears in. I mean, it seems to be about brothers so why not.

They also reveal the the upcoming Hearth’s Warming episode, which is supposed to be called “Hearthbreakers,” will feature more Apple Family stuff. That’s interesting. From what I understood, it was previously said to feature the Pie Family and Maud Pie in particular heavily. Well, I don’t see why they can’t feature both families together in this episode. Maybe it’ll feature vignettes of each of the Mane 6 with each of their families for Hearth’s Warming. I’m not sure though. That would drastically cut down on the time spent with each family. They did confirm though that we will be seeing an episode featuring the Pie Family. Well, we’ll just have to see. Also, on that thought, I had previously speculated that this episode was going to be written by G.M. Berrow, the chapter book author. Apparently, it’s actually going to be written by Nick Confalone. You know, he’s the guy who wrote “Party Pooped”. That sounds promising.

They’re already recording Season 6. I hope that means the hiatus between Season 5 and Season 6 won’t be that long.

Jayson Thiessen is currently working on the upcoming MLP feature film. So, he’s involved in it too. Awesome.

There is an upcoming character named Orchard Blossom that Meghan McCarthy thinks is hilarious. I get the sense she might be appearing in the supposed “The Hooffield and McColts” episode.

When questioned as to whether any of the Mane 6 will ever visibly be in a relationship, they said they prefer to focus on friendship, but they were unwilling to rule it out completely.

Cross you fingers, Flashlight enthusiasts!

Apparently, Vinyl Scratch’s lack of speech is intentional on the show writers’ part. She speaks through her music. They think it makes her cooler. You know what I think would make her cooler? If she spoke!

When questioned over what Element of Harmony Sunset Shimmer would be, Meghan McCarthy suggested she’d be Empathy. I hope this doesn’t mean Sunset Shimmer is an Element of Harmony. You may recall that in my initial review of Rainbow Rocks, the implication that Sunset Shimmer was acting as a Seventh Element of Harmony was my chief issue with the film. Speaking of Sunset Shimmer, they did suggest we may be seeing the human counterpart to Sunset Shimmer. I kind of hope not. My headcanon is that there is no human Sunset Shimmer. They’ve also played with the idea of bringing Sunset Shimmer back to the pony world. That I might be interested in seeing.

As for when the Cutie Mark Crusaders will get their cutie marks, they merely said that it’ll be when they deserve them. All the kids present at the panel though cried out that they think the CMC should get their cutie marks now.

Also, we will never see the Doctor and Derpy travel in the TARDIS because the BBC will sue them.

They’ve also thought about doing an episode where the Mane 6 help a pony with autism. That sounds interesting. I’d like to see that.

When questioned as to whether Shining Armor and Cadance will have a foal, they answered with a very long maybe. We Bronies must really want to see Princess Skyla become canon.

Mike Vogel wants to see a Celestia episode.

There’s going to be an episode where we’re going to see everypony’s greatest fear. I thought that was going to happen in the last episode “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?” but that was not so. I speculate this is what the supposed upcoming episode “Scare-Master” will probably be about.

Jayson Thiessen also wants to do an episode where Derpy sees something and solves a crime. I would love to see that!

Also, bringing fan ponies to the show is not an option. So no canonizing Snowdrop. Ever.

Finally, when questioned as to whether Discord will make an appearance in Equestria Girls, they merely said we had to wait and see. Perhaps we will be seeing Discord in Friendship Games.

Well, I look forward to all that. I look forward to everything about the next half of the season. It’s really going to be quite the show.
