I dreamed there was no hiatus · 5:02am Jul 12th, 2015
Alas, it was but a dream. But at least we ended on the note of a good, if slightly rapid-feeling, episode. Spoilers after the break.
So that was a pretty fun episode. We got some more insight into Luna's dream-walking ability, all of the dreams were entertaining to watch and pretty varied, and the new enemy was pretty insidious and a total bit of fanfic fuel. Even if Pinkie Pie was mostly a punchline this time that spat in the face of the way she had been characterized all the way up to this point, I still found the episode overall very much fun and action-movie-y. We don't get a lot of episodes like this, so we should treat this as a good Season 5.1 finisher.
That being said, I feel like there was a whole lot of stuff that was straight-up told to the audience, instead of being shown. Luna, in particular, tended to speak her emotions here more than she actually emoted. I'm not sure how much of this was cutting the episode down to par for time, and how much of it was just some really poor writing choices. But whatever, man. It was fun, and that's all that counts for me.
Also, I recently finished a new fic that I started working on Father's Day so it's technically still a Father's Day fic! My main man IRPony is reading through it now and giving it a good, solid edits-fuck, and it should be ready for release by the end of the week. I'd also like to say that this won't be the only thing you'll be seeing from me by the end of this month, no sirree bob, so keep on your toes.
I'm not sure if you came up with this phrase, but if you did, you should be proud of yourself.
It had a good run.
That's the general way of things this season. Telling speeds things up. It's just how they roll with S5.
I liked it for this episode if only because it would have taken at least 2 to 3 to properly show it all.
Big Mac is best Magical Girl.
