Luna Theory, Emotional Transformation · 9:35pm Jul 11th, 2015
Ever since I first got into the fandom, I found myself wandering how this cute little princess-
could become this princess.
All of that happened within the time span of a few months to a year, depending on personal belief considering the official time line is absolute crap. So the question is; what happened? Of course we all know by now that the truth is that Woona couldn't be seen as scary, so last second decision by Hasbro decided that she would be made older and more mature looking. They even left in a few animated mistakes from the original Luna that was drawn in there. But as a story teller, I need a concrete reason why this changed occurred. And this meta reason doesn't cut it.
So I've been working with two theories lately, both of which are interesting but one of them has been strengthened by his most recent episode. The first theory has Luna transforming herself on purpose so that she can get more respect from her subjects. She wasn't getting the respect she felt she deserved or needed. So she transformed herself to be more mature looking, thus gaining the respect she felt she deserved.
I really liked this theory, but there is one that is also very dear to my heart. The next theory has a similar theme but is different.
The emotional Transformation theory has Luna changing herself or creating monsters subconsciously. The first Luna that appeared was emotionally scared and weaker, but this may still be closer to the 'true' Luna. Under this theory Luna transforms herself based off of deep long lasting emotional states. and under this theory it can be assumed that Luna decided that she wasn't being punished enough for her actions as Nightmare Moon. So she made herself look older, more mature, and has possibly mentally matured from this new form as well. (though the past would hint at her using this form to essentially protect herself from others.)
What does this mean for Luna? It means that one day if she can overcome her self doubt, loathing, and fear completely, she might be willing to turn back into her true form. Although she would essentially look older now, since she's aged since that time. (Unless of course her mental state also reverts to that age, and thus making her look just as young as she did in episode two. She than can grow and age normally. Sadly if this emotional Transformation theory is correct, than she might forever be trapped in a body developed by her emotions rather than by a normally ageing one, unless she can somehow gain subconscious control over this.
Thanks for listening to one of my theory's, please tell me what you think down below.
Actually, the reason why Princess Luna looks so different now is that Luna was reborn with low magic levels and her mane and tail eventually began to wave again.
3229319 That sounds surprisingly similar to the Past Sins theory. And although I hold respect for that, after looking at the other alicorns, including Ultimate Twilight Sparkle who punched Tirek in the face. I can not support that theory. Now if only Twilight actually turned into a giant Celesta like monster in that fight, I would totally have loved this theory.

What I just told you is not my theory...
3229364 I know, and I'm sorry if I sounded rude or anything. It's just that Past Sins had popularized the theory, and I think Faust might have capitalized on it in an attempt to explain Hasbro's blunder. Sadly, the 'new' cannon suggests otherwise.
Edit: Lauren Faust quit the project for several reasons. I wouldn't doubt that Luna was one such reason.
