My new headcannon:
The Tantabus, being a part of Luna (or at least, that's how I interpreted the ending where she absorbed it), is the last remnants of Nightmare Moon, and now that it's strong enough to enter the waking world (because I call BS on all that energy just up and disappearing), the Tantabus is now bidding it's time to find a host worthy of becoming the next Nightmare. If we follow the comics, then canon-wise:
