I. A Tale of Two Shows When I wrote the few pieces of fiction I have set in the Equestria Girls side continuity, I wrote them from the assumption that Sunset Shimmer was heterosexual and passionate (though at first sexually-inexperienced, due to her youth at the time of entering the Humanoid world). Given this, my unfinished prequel (An Equestrian Gentlemare) was chiefly
This assumes a vanilla Equestrian future, rather than the specific one of the Shadow Wars Story Verse, though some of the comments apply to my SWSV as well. Generally, the SWSV Equestria advances faster than this, as can be seen by reference to the noted story.
It's the Slavery Experience! Get on board the ship for the onerous Middle Passage! Then get auctioned and sold away from all your friends and loved ones for a hopeless life of servitude!
The science, magic and pottery suggest bombs. The history and economics could suggest her the targets of the "system" that "oppresses" the "uneducated" masses and who need to be enlightened. Coupled with her position as a remittance mare with a short(ish) temper and a cameo by everyone's favorite cult leader and one has a very dangerous character
Oh, did you notice that when Twilight gave her the stick to use on the pinata, Moon Dancer began waving it and poking it around in a highly-dangerous manner?

She is definitely smart, and maybe a little bit crazy. Though she doesn't have any desire to make bombs.
I've decided that Moon Dancer's probably a radical -- a devotee of Common Marks and Free Angel, definitely some sort of Leveler. She fits the model -- misfit trust fund aristocratic intellectual. She probably won't turn to violence now, because she's becoming more connected with others. Unless ...

But what if Moon Dancer is already an ally of Starlight Glimmer, and Twilight just gave Moon Dancer the last intellectual tools she needed (access to Twilight's old library and the Haycartes Method) in order to develop something truly diabolical.
Because there is a character in recent Western animation who was a lot like Moon Dancer, who really liked the intellectual on the good guy side, and who wound up both working for the bad guys and killed by them when she Knew Too Much (she got better when the universe reset). Namely ...
History and economics, combined with alienation and an Edwardian culture, suggests some equivalent of Marxism. And the villain of the whole Season Five story arc is a Pony equivalent of a Marxist, Starlight Glimmer.
Science and magic, combined with that, suggests that she's building weapons or terrorist devices.
And yes. Pottery is a classic way of hiding bombs.

it also could mean your interpretation; that she's just studying "esoteric" fields for S&G (although history is my field of study at university so don't go ragging on it too hard)
Great. Super. This suggests that H!Moondancer is probably going to wake up one fine morning and shoot up a McDonalds. Also, glad to see I'm not the only one who got the "Hot Dog Water" vibe off of her.
Poor Moondancer. All she wanted to do was to study, and to make a nice vase to put flowers in, and now she's branded a terrorist. Such is the logic of homeland security officers.
From the sound of it, Moondancer was just devoted to learning everything she could for the sake of learning, keeping her mind focused on absorbing new information so it couldn't dwell on past regrets. No wonder she didn't want to spend time at that dinner; every second not spent with her nose in a book was one where her buried sorrow could catch up with her. Especially when surrounded by the friends she abandoned, and the "friend" who abandoned her.
Besides, given her magical acumen, she doesn't need bombs. At least, not conventional chemical ones.
I think you're probably right about the significance of Moondancer's studies to herself. Though the presence of Starlight Glimmer in the restaurant is still pretty sinister. And there's an off-hand chance that my darkest suspicions might be accurate.
i'm reminded My name earl thought he accidentally created a terrorist (When in truth said guy was building a space rocket to leave earth.) ironically cause of it that made the man stayed (HE only saw the worst in people after earl scammed him thinking everyone is only looking after themselves and when came in to stop him from hurting innocent people. while he was wrong in his assumption him trying to stop it and protect people was the most SELFLESS thing that guy saw and rekindle said guy faith in humanity.)

Yes, exactly. Twilight's reconciliation with her may have prevented the emergence of the Pony Unabomber.

Mind you, I still think Moon Dancer's cute. Crazy smart girls turn me on.
3214125 I'm sure your wife would agree
'Pottery' suggests bombs? Really?
It suggests that she's studying things that aren't really much use and that she's aware of that on some level.

I was thinking "golems", actually.
I thought she was just studying for study's sake with no real goal or reason anymore. Self induced cute mark syndrome failure.

Possibly. I do notice a total lack of connection between her mark, her name and her nature, unless I'm missing something symbolic.
