~I'm not proud to be an American
Joke's on you if you think you're free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who can't see the oligarchy

Oh, there's plenty of things wrong with our country, don't get me wrong.

...but I'm not going to pass up on an opportunity to drink booze and blow stuff up. That's just crazy talk. :derpytongue2:

In G.O.D we trust.

The only good thing to come from tonight was a discount on ice cream from an ice cream truck and the fact I had an excuse to wear my Wonder Woman dress. The fact that I live in Texas should be proof of why those are the only two good things to come from tonight.

Seriously? You aren't proud of our country, and of the men and women who have died in the name of protecting our freedoms?

Don't fuck with me on this. Give me a straight answer.

I'm proud to be a American, and I won't forget the men who died protecting us. Even though there is a lot of messed up things with our country, it is still our home.

3208067 Fair enough.

There is NO profession I respect more than the men and women of the armed forces. They do what others cannot or will not.

For instance, I will never fight in an army controlled by a suit in Washington who dictates when and where we fight, who collects a disgustingly high salary while people starve.

I salute and respect the armed forces.

I say fuck the government who controls them.

So move.

Leave the country, and boom. Problem solved.

Just sayin', bro.

3208097 I'd rather fix the problems.

For instance, I took the money I normally spend on fireworks, and I bought groceries for a food pantry instead of some fucking pyrotechnics that last a few seconds.

Good for you, I guess?

~Skeeter The Lurker

3208105 Yeah, now if only entire cities could do that.

I'm not proud to be American either but I still respect the troops fighting for our freedom, but our government is fucked up.

Some do have regular donations through the city but media focuses on drug addict movie stars I would love it if we could spend a lil more of our taxes on helping others who need it but I'm not in the business I don't know much of it BUT it would be nice to see I get where your coming from too trust me your not alone especially with the current office is pretty bad

I mean no disrespect, but you're not really saying anything here that hasn't been uttered by countless hippies, tin-foil-hat-wearing-lunatics and so-called 'rebel' teenagers before you.

I cant say im proud to be an American, but the fact that my dad retired a few months ago from the military, and has finally stopped going overseas for 6 months a year, makes me proud of my dad for surviving. We used to have a tradition where my sister would bake cookies or brownies, and ship it to where he was stationed. The people who were with him were very grateful, because the normal food there was brown mush crap.

I love my dad, but the military is dangerous as well as the government which is getting more corrupt with all the old ass people with their backwards ways and evil shit. At least the supreme court is better.

I don't know how, but when im older, I want to go to Europe, but I need money, and I am terrified of leaving home, both are very problematic.

I'm sorry that us english idiots went over there and became american idiots all those years ago :derpytongue2:

The armed forces are NOT the country, as I think miles already made clear in his response to you. People love to lump them together.

There was a great video on this which I'll link to when I get home. I would hardly classify Stanford as full of lunatics and angsty teens (not the professors, at least).

3208067 I can honestly say the last war fought to protect our freedom was World War 2. Please tell me how my freedom was protected by Korea, Vietnam, the first and second Gulf Wars, and by Afghanistan; enlighten me as to how my freedom was endangered in the such a way that those conflicts were necessary.

3211795 Really? You don't think I haven't done my own research on this shit? The "domino theory" about communism we used to justify intervention in Korea and Vietnam is horribly flawed, to say the least. We stationed troops along Iraq's southern border in the first Gulf War to prevent Hussein for invading Kuait, who we buy oil from. The second Gulf War was launched under false pretenses involving weapons of mass destruction so that we could install a more friendly government that wouldn't raise the price of gas by antagonizing its neighbors, and we invaded Afghanistan to capture a known terrorist who played a role in the planning of the 9/11 attacks and other terrorist attacks during the Clinton administration. Stopping terrorists is a fine goal, but the police have killed more U.S. Citizens than terrorists since 1970, so terrorism was hardly a pressing matter.

Again, please explain how any of these conflicts have been to protect my freedom.

3211836 Dude, does it look like I want to get in an argument with you? Fuck no. You were never part of my conversation with my friend Miles, so why butt in?

3211902 Fair enough. Your first comment looked more like an accusation than a conversation starter.

And you think these guys are the first to say this stuff? People have been saying stuff like this for most of the 1900's. I'm not saying it's untrue or otherwise, what I'm saying is that it's just another case of "We're being oppressed by the man, man!"

It's a story that might be as old as the United States itself.
