Fey Ponies Lore:
The Era of Unity
(part 1 of 2)
It is well known throughout folklore about Nymphs. Most ponies know that nymphs were the caretakers of nature. They were responsible for “crafting” (and taking care of) nature’s beauty (from the growth of plants/flowers/trees, to the care of the bodies of water.) Equestria before the three tribes (of early Equestrians) first set a hoof in Equestria.
What most ponies don’t know about nymphs is that they were the ancestors to both the Fey ponies and to the Hippocampus (they are commonly known as the Seaponies and Mermares).
Habitat:
The nymphs were to believed to dwell on the earth, clouds, or in bodies in waters. They can be located by the name that the Blessed Court ( Also known as the Seelie Court after the Treaty of Flutter Valley (see Era of Change)) chosen for the nymphs. It is unknown of how this work but it most likely have to with some kind of naming ceremony performed by the Blessed Court.
Classification:
Nymphs are divided up into two main classes, and even then there are a various subclasses.
The first main class of nymphs are known as the Aquatic Nymphs. In this main groups, there are two subgroups; the Oceanids and the Naiads. In the Oceanids subgroup, they are located in salt bodies of water, mainly in found in the inner sea but they could be found in smaller bodies of (salt) water bodies. They are responsible for taking care of any life in saltwater (like any seawater plants and creatures, (mainly differences type of fish.)).
The second (and last) of the Aquatic Nymphs subgroup are the Naiads. These nymphs could be find in freshwater; either in lakes, streams, or river. Just like with the Oceanids: the Naiads are responsible for taking care of any life but in freshwater than with seawater. The Naiads can only live in fresh bodies of water but their descent ,the Seaponies, could thrive in both seawater and freshwater. There are a few theories of how this maybe be but that will be cover in the next chapter; Era of Change.
There are a few differences between the Oceanids and the Naiads. One difference is between the two nymphs is the size between the two subgroups. The Naiads are about the size of a regular (Equestrian) pony. The Oceanids, on the other hand, are twice the size of of a regular (Equestrian) pony. The Naiads come in bright and wild colors, while the Oceanids have warm and mild colors. Another difference is that Naiads are a bit more sociable than Oceanids. After the events of Treaty of Flutter Valley, the Aquatic Nymphs change to operate under monarchy (way before the Skaia Nymphs did at the end of Era of Change.), by a “Sea Lion”.
The second (and last) main group of nymphs are known as the Skaia Nymphs. In this maingroup, there four subgroups. The First subgroup were known as the Dryads, they were responsible for the well being of the plants and trees. It is believed that the Dryads put their heart and soul into their work and that their “life force” was that it was bound to the land that they were responsible for. The Dryads used plants to disguise themselves from unwell eyes.
The second subgroup of the Skaia Nymphs subgroup are the Nephelai, they are responsible for pouring water into cloud; so that the rivers/ streams wouldn’t dry up and also that the earth would also be nourished. They are the only nymph that could moved clouds. Unlike the Pegasus, the Nephelai don’t manipulate snow or any other kind of weather (beside rain). That is why is that there are no four season, the weather is normally warm and spring-like weather all year around. That would change after the events of Treaty of Flutter Valley and the Feys getting the Sun Stone that would change the weather to more of a tropical than spring. Even though all Skaia Nymphs do have wings; the Nephelai are the best flyer when it comes to flying. Their wings are swift and that could rivals a Pegasus’ anyday.
The third subgroup of the Skaia Nymphs are the Oreades. Unlike like the other nymphs, the Oreades don’t have any descendants. It is noted that there not many Oreades ( at least when comparing them to the other nymphs’ numbers.). The Oreades were tend to be a bit more wilder and a bit more dangerous than any of the other nymphs. But even though they are a bit more wilder, they have a strong bond with the other Oreades. This might be that the Oreades are more of team than with other nymphs. The Oreades dwell in only in mountains ( sometimes also dwell in hills but rarely). The Oreades were the keeper of gems that could be found in the mountains that the Oreades dwell in. They would collect/mine raw gems and crushed into magical powder. This powder were mainly use for by the Mystic so that they could Flutterdust to fly. The gems would also be use for rituals ( See Rituals) when performing any type of ritual that the nymphs knew.
There have been seven cases of founding crystals that would be later found and called Arkengem; that the Oreades gave to each member of the Blessed Court (the seventh one would be given to The Royals Sisters at the signing of the Treaty of Flutter Valley.) The Oreades were to have great strength than any of the other nymphs. They also have a horn but their magic was only limited to locating gems( because of this the Oreades are commonly known as Winged Unicorns in the years to come) . The disappearance of the Oreades are still a mystery to this day. There are a few theories that scholars can agree on, the popular one being that the Oreades being some kind of mining accident.
What to expect for part 2?
-The last subgroup of the Skaia Nymphs, the Mystic
- Rituals that the both the Skyaia and Aquatic used
-and the start of the fall into the “Dark Era” for the descendants of the Nymphs.
-and maybe some drawings ?
