My Thoughts on "Amending Fences" · 6:28pm Jul 4th, 2015
Alrighty, then. Gonna bust this one out real quick. Video games are calling me. Here are my thoughts on this week's episode, Amending Fences.
Spoilers. You've been warned.
This episode was pretty freaking amazing. Really high on my list of favorites, actually. I've always wondered what Twilight's old friends would be up to after she so unceremoniously left them out to dry. It was nice to see them all, especially because I didn't realize that it would be. I really appreciate the fact that they continually talk about the many, many instances in which Twilight could, and should, have run into them before now.
This episode had a few great send-ups to the very first episode, which was fun to see. Twilight's old house, Predictions and Prophecies, even the episode's plot itself. Remember that party that Twilight was invited to in the first episode? Well, that was put together by a little mare by the name of Moondancer, who is the Vergil to Twilight's Dante.
This episode answers the age-old question: What would Twilight be like if she never left Canterlot? The short answer is "a cranky, crotchety, hermit of a mare who lives in a run-down, dilapidated shack". Well, that's a rather long answer, but you get the point. Anyway, Moondancer, who starts off as a literal pallet swap of Twilight (after the first party, she changed manestyles), is really butthurt that Twilght never showed up to the aforementioned Friendship is Magic pt. 1 party. Twilight wants to make it up to her, and decides to throw a party in honor of Moondancer. That's when this episode took a turn.
It get real for a second. Moondancer, who didn't want to be there to begin with, tries to finish it up quick. She takes the pinata stick from the princess, and halfheartedly wacks the pinata, mumbling passive-aggressively all the while. She soon escalates, saying how the original friends (Minuette, Lemon Heart, Lyra, and the other one) finally made her feel like she had worth, made her feel like she was more than nothing, just to have Twilight invalidate it all by not valuing her enough to show up. It sent a pang through my heart, because I know that feeling very well.
Overall, I rate this episode at a perfect 10 out of 10. This episode was flawless, in my eyes. The only beef I think some people will have is how annoying Minuette was. I, however, loved that, and I think her rambling, talks-forever-yet-says-nothing personalty is charming in a way.
Got your own thoughts? Probably, and if you'd like to share 'em, comment down below. I'll see you next week with my thoughts on the episode Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? Can't. Freaking. Wait. But, farewell, for ESO is calling me!
Somebody wanna tell me how the f*ck Lemon Heart got her head stuck in a beaker?
3206301 I share the same thoughts as you on this episode, though you formulated your opinion into words way better than did. I just watched When Marnie Was There last night, and now this episode...everything I watch is making cry these days!
And I still don't know how Lemon Hearts got her head stuck in a beaker.
3206357 This season's humor is getting weird, and I like that. And seeing Lemon Heart run around like a headless chicken was amazing.
