It's been a long December and there's reason to believe...

Maybe this year will be better than the last.

I'd say more, but let's not tempt fate, she seems to be having a rough year too.

    Have you voted yet?

This isn't an endorsement, I have no facts and figures to offer you, no scandals to mention. I'll just say that this election may well be the most noteworthy in quite some time for the turnout, and early voting is still happening tomorrow. If you mailed yours in, check to make sure it was received. If it wasn't, there is still time to vote in person and cancel the mail in. No matter how you do

Spoilers! Amending Fences · 6:26pm Jul 4th, 2015

Alternate title: Twilight renews friendship with Twilight beta.

The show continues to throw me Twinkie fodder. It's like they know what I want!

So, due to an offhand comment, Twilight is reminded that she used to have friends before being sent to Ponyville to make entirely different friends. The newly crowned Princess of Friendship feels very self-conscious about this, since it's rather like finding out Cadance committed adultery or Celestia just slept in for a week without raising the sun thus raising a panic that Nightmare Moon had returned.

She immediately decides that she needs to rectify this, and goes to Canterlot to find her old friends, who are apparently Minnuette (Well, they couldn't name her Colgate, after all) Lemon Hearts, Twinkleshine, Moondancer, and Lyra Heartstrings.

Colgate is super-excited to see Twilight, since nopony believes her when she says she used to be friends with a princess. Twinkleshin and Lemon Hearts turn out to be just as excitable. At first I thought Colgate was trying to use Twilight for office fame, but as the episode progresses it becomes apparent that this trio genuinely liked Twilight, and took next to no offense that she kept blowing them off, even to the point of not saying goodbye when she was sent to Ponyville. They accept her apology with little more than a giggle at the idea that she had hurt them.

I can actually identify with Twilight quite a bit here. All through my school years my family moved around, and I never connected with my fellow students very well. I knew barely anyone, but people knew me and often tried to engage me. But I always had my nose in a book or comic. Sometimes I wonder how I would have turned out had I put myself out there, more.

Well, Twilight gets to have that question answered in reverse. She gets to find out how she might have ended up had she continued down the path she was following, in the form of Moondancer.

Oh... oh sweetie you should run a rake through that mane every month or so.

Twilight desperately tries to reconnect with Moondancer, gradually remembering that apparently she grew up with these friends, presumably after Twilight got her cutie mark.

But when Twilight-senpai missed Moondancer's party, she shut herself out of friends for good. She's become a shut-in, leaving the house only for more books.

This gives Twilight an idea, and she begins trying to bribe her way back into her old friend's good graces with books. When that doesn't work, she offers access to spells for advanced study techniques. The dinner... did not go so well, and Twilight comes to realize how badly she'd hurt her friend by ignoring her attempts to reach out and be social with a party. Well, fortunately, when you have a party problem, there's only one pony you have to call.

Pinkie to the rescue! With party pony on call, and the Canterlot Trio helping, Twilight can now attempt the hardest part. Luring the bookhorse to the trap.

And a masterful trap it is. Twilight strews first editions in a breadcrumb trail to the party, and here we have the confrontation.

Moondancer reveals what we all know by now. When Senpai didn't attend the party, not even the support of the trio could stop her from falling into despair and never ever making a friend again. Except, without even knowing it, she had. Pinkie invited the librarian, the coffee shop waitress... and Moondancer's sister (Kind of a stretch but why not, Twiley has her bbbff so a sister can be a friend) and she realizes that maybe doing something besides studying all the time might be okay.

We end on Moondance and the trio playing some sort of sport, which is likely a good thing since reading all day can't be good for your muscle tone.

Next Week, Luna Luna Luna Luna!

It's irony that Moon Dancer is what Twilight would've ended up like had she not ebraced friendship.

The trail of books leading Moondancer to the party killed me. Hilarious, brilliant and adorable, someone was really on top of their shit with this episode.

3206367 M.A. Larson is a magnificent man.... if he is not careful "Thanks M.A. Larson" will lose all its irony.

I think my favorite bits are all the terrible jabs they make to point out how bad a friend Twilight was to these four... from talking about how much they see Twilight to mentioning that they were the three unicorn brides maids.... that twilight and Cadence tossed off a cliff (presumably)... :rainbowderp:

3206334 I know I don't have the firmest grasp on what irony is, but I don't think that's ironic.

3206780 I don't have a very good idea, eitther. Thanks, Alanis Morrisette...

We finally get to see Moondancer?

We finally get to see Moondancer!

Pinkie Pie must be really light to have Twilight flying at that speed. Maybe Twilight got stronger, but I can't really see that being the case since it's... you know... Twilight. So the other option of Pinkie Pie being really like makes sense; therefore, Pinkie Pie is not fat... So artist need to stop drawing her that way... because she's not...

P.S. Twilight gets Pinkie Pie to help with her problem? Yes! Fodder fodder fodder fodder! Gettin' her nice and fed before the ship sails.

3206780 I just meant that both are total bookworms, MD probably more so than Twilight now, and Twilight wouldn't be where we know her today if she hadn't left for Ponyville.

I haven't seen the episode (or any of seasons 4 and 5), but your description is spot on with the video.

Moondancer is to Twilight what Lightning Dust was to Rainbow Dash. Other than she's cuter, and has a super crush on Twilight. Too bad she only has room for Pinks and Tia. Possibly Dashie and AJ when they have a good heart to heart. Still, a Celestial Twinkie probably couldn't fit Moondancer even if she is adorable [wearing Twilight's Manedo. Destroying all her friendships when her ponycrush utterly ignored her existence and left her without a single good bye. Broke her heart the same way Tia did to Twily's but with a bit more of a knife twist.]

Still, loved the episode, and I can't wait to see Luna's episode. Or the blog here on it.

Actually, Twilight and Cadance just threw flowers. It's not Twilight's fault that they jumped. Or that she utterly forgot who they were when she saw them. Or everytime in Ponyville she saw them and forgot they were friends. Treating them like utter strangers.

I honestly think Original Cadance made them Bridesmaids just so Twilight could connect with past friends. Cause she's an epically awesome pony like that.

3208366 Just put books in place of the candy and that's the scene lol.

3207290 Twilight's a mage with earth pony magic and Pinkie operates beyond reality. They have ways of getting around weight limits and gravity.

I also very much enjoyed this episode. I go into detail as to why in my own review.

And lets not forget Starlight Glimmer is apparently stalking Twilight. :twilightoops:

3209180 Yes... how she is not the most well known and hunted pony in the realm is beyond me. She attacked a princess and tried to steal her very purpose in life.

Moon Dancer looks best as two names than one, but that's me. Still a fun episode like the others! :pinkiehappy:

3206643 3208374 Only two of them were bridesmaids, idiots. The third, Lyra, wasn't even in this episode. :facehoof:

3216664 Yeah I went back and checked... after i wrote the comment.... then just waited patiently for the internet call out :trollestia:
