I think that it's more that she was naturally even less sociable than was Twilight (who after all had Shining Armor, Cadance and Spike growing up to keep her equine) and when the first thing went wrong with her attempt to blossom, gave up. Twilight was probably the one she cared about the most, though, because Moon Dancer probably saw her as a Kindred Spirit. It would be very plausible for them now to eventually become close friends.

God, it's almost like some scrub pony named Moondancer was in this episode.
