Why I Don't Write Here Anymore

I suppose it's been on my mind for a long time, but it never really occurred to me until recently. And because a few of you have been waiting for some projects I promised I'd finished, you deserve to know, as well.

    This exists . . .

This is a thing that exists. This was made with effort, and money.

And Hasbro actually put their name on this.

    . . .

    . . .

    . . .

I'm gonna step away from this one.

My good friend needs some support

You all probably know HudsonHawk, especially if you know me. Even though I've never met the man in person, he's my best friend on this site, on the internet, and probably ever.

    Embarking on a new venture

Recently I discovered a site for content creators called Daisie. It allows people to post their work and ask for collaborators, and it was created by actress Maisie Williams, whom many of you might know as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones.

200 / 250 Follower Q&A Answers! · 2:05am Jul 4th, 2015

Okay, folks, it's been long enough, and I think we've accumulated enough questions. Now, to provide the answers!

I just hope we don't get any more weird ones . . . .

Would you both attend Canterlot High as students?

Magic portal or no, CHS is still a high school. Those, I actively try to avoid. :ajbemused:

I'm not even sure what I would look like in that world. I'm probably more hideous there than I am in Equestria. Still, it would probably be worth it to see Fluttershy in a skirt . . .

You're not kidding . . . :twilightblush:

Thanks for the question, Boomer29!

Have either of you ventured to DeviantArt?

I actually have a DA account, but I'm not really an artist, so I don't post anything. I usually just admire the pics and artworks of others. I did post the first chapter of "One More Dance" there, though, but I haven't touched it since. The editing system is kind of a pain . . .

What's DeviantArt?

have either of you meet a batpony?

Hmmm . . . . unless Nocturne counts, no. Nocturne, do you count?

How the bloody Tartarus should I know?! I can't even remember my own mother's face! Insensitive ass . . .

. . . . . Ooooookay . . . . thanks, RainbowLightin, for the questions.

Say ya'll got transported to Equestria. What would be the first thing you guys would do?

Ahh, the old "human in Equestria" scenario. Frankly, I would spend about half an hour freaking out first, then I would chill out and try to find a princess. Hopefully, diplomatic immunity will keep me from being the victim of an angry mob . . .

I'm already here. :ajbemused:

But if I could hang out with Nocturne while there, we'd probably grab a bite, catch a movie, maybe visit Fluttershy--

NOOO!!! I'm not letting my creator embarrass me!

Hehe . . . :pinkiecrazy: Anyway, thank you, Harms Way, for the question.

Assume you may pick between the Equestria Girls Universe and canon MLP Universe. Which one? Why?

As I've stated, high schools are a matter of annoyance for me. So, if I had to pick, definitely Equestria.

Again, I'm already here, and I'm kind of afraid to know what I would look like as a hairless monkey . . .

Artemis Fowl II, thanks for the question!

Favorite Terminator movie? Favorite Alien movie?

I only ever saw the first three Terminator movies and the first Alien movie. That said, I think T2 is my favorite of the Terminators.

We don't get a lot of sci-fi horror where I come from. Sounds kind of interesting, though . . .

Favorite TV show?

I'm a superhero nerd, so I follow Arrow, The Flash, Gotham and Daredevil quite religiously. I also love my Ninja Turtles, been a fan since I was a baby (along with MLP, among the best cartoons on TV today!) Also, Whose Line is it Anyway makes me laugh, every time.

What's a TV?

What is your favorite species besides ponies in equestria?

That's a tough one . . . I thought the Wendigoes were kinda cool. The tiger-head Chimera was cool, too. I'll look back on some more critters to be sure. I'll keep you posted.

All I can say is, I'm not a big fan of Lamias . . . anyway, thanks for the posers, Doctor Whovian.

Where do you stand on the whole issue of ponies being polygamists vs monogamist

I don't know enough about multiple partner marriage to assess it fairly. I figure, if people are happy, let them marry who they want.

I hardly see normal married couples in Equestria. Besides, I don't know enough about marriage, or love, to say so, either. Sorry, Sipioc, if this wasn't a good enough answer, but that's the best we got. :applejackunsure:

What inspires you in your lives?

I get a lot of inspiration from my readers. The ones who praise my work, give me the drive to continue, and the ones who criticize make me strive to prove them wrong. Also, where perseverance is concerned, I take some inspiration from Michael Jackson. No matter how bad things got for him, he continued to excel at what he did best, up to his dying day. I wanna be like that; no giving up, no matter how bad things get for me or who's against me, I want to keep writing and excelling.

Living in the woods for so long, I had no inspiration. But then Fluttershy came along, and showed me friendship. She and her friends inspire me to leave my past behind, and be a better pony.

Thanks for the question, BerginatorGaming!

Will you ever write another story when you're high on medication?

I don't take medication, so that's not likely. I have been know to let my hormones do the writing for me, so that will certainly happen. :pinkiecrazy: Thanks for asking, eLLen!

. . . . . You got issues, man . . .

What is your favorite movie?

Two movies I could watch over and over again and never get tired of them: The Avengers, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Being a forest dweller for the better part of my life, I'm not exactly a movie expert . . .

What are your favorite singers or bands?

I have a pretty eclectic playlist. Prince, Genesis (including Gabe and Collins), Adam Lambert, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Hall & Oates, Olly Murs, Ne-Yo, Owl City, the Commodores (and Lionel Richie), the Police (and Sting), Culture Club, Drake, Jesse McCartney, Kenny Loggins, Will Smith . . . . I could go on.

Of course, the King of Pop is always tops to me.

I've heard some of Sapphire Shores' music. Not bad. I've also gotten to listen to Fluttershy practicing with the PonyTones. She's amazing.

Paul McCartney once wrote that in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. In your experience, is this true?

In a way, I suppose it is true. In today's world, there isn't enough love being made, so it would stand to reason that not everyone feels loved enough.

Love confuses me. Some get it, others don't. Some give it, but not everyone. If it's so great, why isn't there more of it? I wish I knew . . .

In your opinion, what is the secret to a happy life?

There's really no secret to it. Just work yourself up to a point where you can do what you love for a living. Being a functioning cog in society sucks; the least you can do is enjoy yourself in the meantime.

I haven't exactly had a "happy" life. No parents, no friends, growing up in the most dangerous place in Equestria--I used to think there was no such thing as happiness. Of course, now that I'm among friends, I could be wrong . . .

Who's the black private dick who's the sex machine to all the chicks?

Shaft!

You damn right. I guess . . . :applejackunsure:

Thanks, Hudson!

What's your favorite genre of stories?

I love a good mystery. I'm also into sci-fi, fantasy and horror.

Don't tell anypony, but . . . . I'm kinda into love stories.

Thanks, Ryuku the Awesome!

When did you decide to make an FIMfiction account and why did you decide to watch MLP:FiM?

Good questions, Jmaster99! I've been on FIMfiction since September last year (so, going on ten months, now, I think). I met another user, my buddy Spirit Shift on Facebook, and I let him read my first MLP fanfic. He thought it was so good, that I should put it up here. Even though it wasn't too well received, I have since found success.

I first became a Brony about three months before I joined FIMfiction. Earlier that year, I had noticed the Brony phenomenon spreading, and it baffled and intrigued me. So, I deided to watch the pilot to see what the hype was about, but I felt like it wasn't enough to satisfy my curiosity. The more I watched, the more confused I got, the more I slowly started to like it. Finally, in June, I saw "Dragonshy", and was completely hooked from that point on.

Well, I was born from LightningSword's Bronyness, and he explained it better than I could, so . . . there's that . . .

What do you think about Pinkie Pie?

I'll be honest--she's not my favorite. But after seeing "Party Pooped", which was actually a really good episode, she's kind of growing on me.

Oh, and for Nocturne... have you been on better terms with her?

We're still talking about "personal space". I don't think she grasps the concept yet . . . :facehoof:

Thanks, Stella! :pinkiehappy:

Do you like horror movies? If so, what's your favorite?

I'm quite fond of John Carpenter's "The Thing". I sort of liked "The Relic" (the book was WAAAAAAAY better), and I can't forget classics like "Halloween", A Nightmare on Elm Street", and "The Exorcist".

My favorites, though, are "Sleepy Hollow" and "Sweeney Todd". Johnny Depp was excellent!

Again, not a movie buff. Even so, horror movies don't fare well in Equestria. Enough weird stuff happens here, already . . .

Subject 19, thanks for the question!

Who do you two have a crush on? :3

Well, I suppose unrealistic crushes are okay to talk about. In that case, I have a thing for Scarlett Johansson and Priyanka Chopra.:heart:

I'm not at liberty to discuss that! And don't tell her about it! I mean it! :flutterrage:

. . . . . . That emoticon, though. Freudian slip, much?

SHUT UP!

Thanks for the question, MyLittleGeneration.

For ARchy4288, sorry, but most of your questions were answered already. One, however, hasn't, and I'll put that one in:

What's your favorite game?

I've been a fan of RPGs for a long time, but my absolute favorites are the Pokemon games. I also like Shining Force (kind of an obscure title for SEGA Genesis that was remade for GBA years ago).

For me, a "game" was always seeing how quickly I could get food without the local manticore spotting me. Bonus points if it was a whole pack. :ajbemused:

Same deal with you, ObsidianPony; many of your questions were taken. But not this one:

Least favorite episode of the show?

Up until Season 5, my least favorite episode was "The Mysterious Mare Do Well". It's a pretty widely-panned episode, so I'm sure you'd know my reasons.

But as of Season 5, my least favorite episode is "Tanks for the Memories". The structure of the episode is absolutely brilliant (Dash going through the five stages of grief), but the one detail that turns it from one of the best episodes ever to the absolute flat-out worst:

Tank wasn't dying. He was hibernating. Dash would have seen him again.

That one tiny detail turns Rainbow Dash from a distressed friend trying to save the life of the animal she loves, into a selfish, immature bitch who cried because she didn't get her way. Unless she's handing out programs for the tortoise's funeral, she deserves no pity. None.

Episodes like "Bats!" and "Putting Your Hoof Down" were hard for me to handle. Fluttershy is a good friend, and is pains me to see her turn into some kind of monster.

Also, "Griffon the Brush-Off." Obvious reasons . . . . :twilightangry2:

Who inspires you the most when it comes to your line of work?

As far as writing is concerned, my inspiration comes from the authors I leanred the most from. I grew up reading "Harry Potter", naturally, so J. K. Rowling is one of the greats in my opinion. Stephen King inspires me to improve on my horror game (my first published work, a horror novella, didn't turn out so well. :ajsleepy:). And the writers of the Pendergast novels, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, inspire me to write intelligent, witty, and thrilling hi-tech mysteries (I'm currently working on a detective series inspired by Agent Pendergast himself).

If I knew what my line of work was, I'd tell you. But as I said, Fluttershy and her friends always inspire me to keep trying. So, no matter what is it I turn out to be capable of, they'll have my back.

Thanks for the question, Sapphire!

And finally, courtesy of Summer Dancer:

Besides Fluttershy, which Equestria Girl's design do you like the most?

Boy, do you know me, or what? :twilightblush:

They all look pretty good, to me. In fact, Rarity looks gorgeous as a human. And despite Rainbow Dash being my least favorite of the six, I won't lie . . . she's actually kinda hot. :applejackunsure: That pleated skirt looks pretty damn good on Twilight, though . . .

But I think I like Sunset Shimmer's design the most. The leather jacket. The biker boots. The tight miniskirt. She looks so much like the "bad girl" I would have followed around like a puppy in school. Kind of upset that they gave her a new design, but that looks pretty nice, too.

I always thought Applejack had kind of a nice plot. Looks better in a tight demin skirt.

Don't tell Fluttershy, though . . . . :twilightoops:

Thanks again, everyone, for the great questions. I'll include some repeated stuff in the next Q&A, so nothing gets repeated again, and the questions can stay fresh.

And now, an announcement: LightningSword's upcoming story will be a rewrite of one of my starring roles. So, say goodbye to the awful first chapter of "The Gentle Dark" and the unnecessary supplemental story, "Kind Light", and make way for the combined rewrite of the two . . .

"The Phantom Pony of Everfree"!

Yep, Nocturne's right! Expect the new story to be submitted on Sunday!

Thanks again for the questions, everyone, and thanks again for reading!

Catch you later!

Magic portal or no, CHS is still a high school. Those, I actively try to avoid

Sage advice if i ever heard it. :moustache:

:rainbowkiss: Cool!

Thanks for the answer! :D
I would also try to avoid high schools but if it was CHS I would go instantly! Lol

Harding your TftM opinion, keep in mind: this is Rainbow Dash.

She hates to lose, she fights until the end, she sticks by her friends and those she cares about, she hates to admit defeat and hates to say that she quits. We've had episodes where she hunted down friends (Hurricane Fluttershy, The Last Roundup) and see that she hates to choose between what she cares about (Return of Harmony, Rainbow Falls) and get mad at others leaving someone behind (Flight to the Finish). With that in mind, why would Rainbow let Tank (her first pet and the one that saved her life) go for even a week let alone a few months?

Also bare in mind, a few months might not seem like a big deal to you and some people, but to others, old or young, it can seem like forever.

Besides it’s still in character for Rainbow: following rules that make sense to her but is willing to break them when something or someone she values is at risk. We have seen in episodes like Wonderbolts Academy that she cares about the well-being of others, such as when she ignored her training and willingly dived to save her falling friends, but Tank has been shown to be practically family to her in previous episodes and this one, so it makes sense that she’s more than willing to compromise her own morals.

While I agree death is something kids should know about, don't think that EVERY cartoon NEEDS to talk about death or have someone die in order to be "mature". Because grief doesn't JUST relate to death and the show has proven on multiple occasions that it's perfectly capable of having mature moments without mentioning death. Corey Powell found a clever way to work in the five stages of grief and talk about the process of "losing" someone without actually having someone die. Can't we all just stop wanting cartoons to be "mature" and just let them be cartoons?

Plus I can understand people feeling cheated that Rainbow got no consequences for destroying the weather factory buuuut…

1: She didn’t intend to destroy the factory itself, she only meant to empty the water tank. The rest of the destruction happened entirely by accident.

2: Technically nopony SAW Rainbow do it so how would they be able to pin the blame on her?

3: If you think about it, Rainbow did kinda get comeuppance for breaking into the factory, such as getting covered in snow, thrown around the room, struck by lightning, sucked through a machine, and didn't stop winter in the end.

4: Not every character HAS to be severely punished for doing something wrong, intentional or not.

5: Rainbow HAS broken the law in the past to get something she wants (Read It and Weep)

and 6: It’s not like this is the first time one of the main characters has caused some form of harm to the town and gotten no consequences for it. (Fluttershy: starting a parasprite invasion twice. Rarity: getting that Inspiration Manifestation spell and over-glamorising the town which endangered some lives. Twilight: hypnotising every town member with the Want-It-Need-It spell. Applejack: poisoning the citizens with those "baked bads". Pinkie Pie: her clones causing damage to the town and its citizens. Spike: growing to Godzilla-size, wrecking the town and stealing everypony’s possessions.) It doesn’t make her actions right but it’s an issue that doesn’t only take place in just this episode.

3209164 At least this time you gave your opinion without acting like an insensitive asshole. I suppose I should be grateful.

3209187 Yeah, sorry about that. I was a douche.

3209262 It's all right. If you can walk away from it maturely, so can I. Truce?

3209187 Sooo your response to my response to your response to Tanks for the Memories? (insert Inception joke here)

3214490 I can understand what you mean. Dash is competitive and takes things a bit too seriously. But I really believe that's what works against her in this case. She may not like to lose, but even Dash should realize that you can't beat nature.

Again, there's no risk here. Tank was going to be fine. There was no need for Dash to break the rules, because everything would have been fine in three months. It may seem like a while, but it can pass by quickly in the right circumstances. Like among friends who can help her.

I never said death was a mandatory topic for every kids show. But if the writers had wanted to do a full-on "coping with death" episode, they would not have been in any danger. Sesame Street, Saved by the Bell, Bobby's World, they all did "death" episodes back in the day. In fact, if Tank had died, this would have been one of the greatest episodes ever made.

And maybe she didn't intend to destroy what she destroyed, but she still broke in (trespassing) and willingly intended to commit a felony (mild vandalism). Yes, it got out of hand, but her intentions were still illegal. This includes stealing the book, as well, only it would be theft instead of vandalism. All the other times you mentioned (with the possible exception of Twilight in "Lesson Zero") were unintentional, and while still deserving of consequences, are deserving of something far less severe than Dash's perfectly willing and premeditated crimes.

Furthermore, Dash doesn't stop for a second and consider what Tank wants. The whole time, she was only thinking about herself.

Sorry, but this is just the way I feel. Like I said, the structure and plot are absolute genius. But that one thing that kills it all and makes it a terrible episode is Tank not dying. Not that I want him to, mind you, but if he had, the episode would have worked much better.

Anyway, that's my answer. No ill will, take what you will from it.

3214503>> That was where the stage of denial came in. That stage can make even the best of us ignore the most obvious facts.

Like it said, this is Rainbow Dash we're talking about.

Yes, but that was back in the day, when it was perfectly naturally for guys like Optimus Prime, Bambi's mom and Littlefoot's mother to get the axe in cartoons. Nowadays death in cartoons is rather frowned upon. If you want to know more, go watch Silver Quill's "Tanks for the Memories Supplement" video.

And like I said, no one SAW her do it. And stop thinking that every character MUST be punished when they do something bad. Besides, as I said, she did technically get comeuppance when she was hit in the head by Tank, flung around the factory, covered in snow, struck by lightning and sucked through a machine. Sounds like punishment enough.

Did you ever consider the fact that most people, like parents who care very much for their children, accidentally do that with others in hopes of making them happy which would in turn make themselves happy? Y'know, wanting the best for them? After all, sometimes love blinds.

Who the buck cares whether Tank was dying or not? This was still an excellent metaphor for death that handled the five stages of grief perfectly without killing someone off.

Wow, aren't you the most empathetic person on the planet? (Joking, Lightning, relax.)
