Displaced stories: threat or menace?

Person turns into some sort of powerful fictional character.
Person Wrongfully Punished/Imprisoned by Ponies.
Person escapes and has revenge!

Wash, repeat until concept not just beaten to death, but in a state of advanced decay.

That is an awesome description!
And even though my continuing work might be classified as a "Displaced" fic, I'm really trying not to follow that formula.
