New Story - I Dreamt I Was Old

    Hello!

Just a new story out. I was originally going to post a Father’s Day story but I ran overtime. This story is dedicated to my Dad and is a bit on the sadder side.

Not that anything is wrong with my dad I just wanted to write a story from the perspective of an older pony reflecting on their life. Which I recently had a conversation with my dad about.

The 100th Epsiode · 6:05pm Jun 14th, 2015

I have returned refreshed anew from my adventures abroad with my family so in the mean time I have not been able to keep up with the new episodes as well as I had hoped. Nonetheless, having returned and found myself a few hours I managed to plod through them and also take a look at the 100th episode. I’ll come back to the earlier episodes later, I’ll first take a look at the episode that has caught everyone’s attention.

In short the 100th episode is a pure and unadulterated love letter to the fandom and all its works. It is a fantastic, surreal little experience that tries to shove every aspect of what fans wanted in some of the background characters. It is one of the funniest episodes I’ve seen in a long time.

There is no real plot to speak of, other than a loosely followed wedding story between Cranky and Matilda. Instead it focuses on individuals and their perspective on the wedding, almost like short stories within an episode though not entirely. It’s kind of weird and at times it can be sort of schizophrenic when the show is trying to juggle multiple story angles but it fits in the style of the episode.

I’d urge you to go out and see it (who am I kidding who hasn’t seen it yet?) Thus I will forgoe my usual spoilers and instead point out positives and negatives of the episode.

Positives

-Cranky being miserly is quite enjoyable
- In terms of character very few of the background group are misrepresented poorly, in fact most of them tie directly into what the fandom thought they would be.
-Sweetie pointing out the show is either based on Friendship or fighting monsters then points out how long said problems take to be fixed.
-Appropriate accents for Octavia and Doctor Whooves, thankfully.
-Derpy is too cute.
-Steve Magnet is too funny.
-Vinyl and Octavia living together and having an almost sexually tense music contest, I have no idea what it was really but it was amazing.
- Furthermore the music is pretty decent.
-The bass tank makes and appearance.
-Blatant Lyra and Bon Bon shipping, like seriously, their only like a few lines off kissing in the episode.
-The appearance of almost every significant character in the series (bar the villains and Discord)
-Changeling cameo
-The double agent thing had me cry with laughter
-Celestia and Luna arguing like siblings brought a massive smile to my face, is it kind of sad that we have had more character development for Celestia in two episodes this season then for the past four?
-The speech by Mayor Mare at the end was quite touching
- SHIPPING TEASES
- Gummy’s speech is the best thing the show has ever done. I haven’t laughed so hard in years. Literally it was just so out of left field it actually worked perfectly.

Negatives

-The episode is quite rushed with a lot of time spent on the introduction and only about two to three minutes on the conclusion (this is actually quite a worrying trend I’ve noticed in a few episodes)
-Some more critical viewers will see this as pure pandering. It could be argued the subtle nods to the fandom had far more impact than the episode itself.
-A bit surreal to be honest despite its title. The strangeness of the episode and the narrative put me off at some stages.
-Derpy is called Muffins
- The Doctor, sadly, is not voice by a previous actor who has played the Doctor before, which I really thought they could have tried to pull off.
-Vinyl doesn’t talk, which is both annoying and relieving at the same time. I know may fans can’t accept that the fandom voice actor cannot be replaced so I suppose it was easier to placate fans by merely having her not talk in the episode.

Overall I really did enjoy this episode. Probably one of my favourites. It just has so much devotion and love put in it that I can’t criticise it too harshly. I feel that in many ways it captured the essence of the fandom as this out of this world surreal experience. It wasn’t perfect but damn it was fine.

9/10

hello, your friendly mute person here to say please stop calling vinyl, any by extension us, "a mute." we're not just our disability. we don't particularly enjoy being referred to only by our disability as though that's all we are. "Vinyl is a pony who's mute" would have worked. such as, "it was easier to keep her as a pony who's mute."

3149646 I, in no way intended offence with my statement, but in in hindsight I can now clearly see how my words may have shown that I am identifying Vinly solely by an apparent disability of hers. The phrasing on my part was extremely poor as you have so explained and there was sincerely no malice meant on my part. I would never judge a person solely on a certain ascpect of their being. I will of course change the sentance to something more appropiate.

Please accept my sincerest apologies.

3149761 thank you for apologizing and correcting your mistake. learn from it and all that and we'll be chill!
