Why yes, it has been 24 weeks since my last retrospective blog post, but who was counting anyway? I'm back for another round and that's what matters!

Once again, I'll be taking a look at my past work and posing the question of... why? Will I know the answer? Probably not, but keep reading to find out! Today I'll be looking at Ponies and Cage and The Beasts of Tartarus!

Greetings, champion! Bet you didn't think I'd actually continue this, did you? Bet you thought I'd go and disappear for two years again? Honestly, wouldn't blame you, there's a bit of a precedent for it. But last time was fun, I wanna keep doing it! So, what's on the docket today?

    Ah. I see.

    In Retrospect: The 63rd Rune

Hello, hey, hi, what's up, how's it going! It's me, Alexstrazsa, aka that guy who was deeply involved with the fandom but is now washed up, irrelevant, out of touch, and probably no one remembers him. That guy!

Contrary to popular belief, I am not dead.

Yo, what's up everyone? How's it going. I'm here with my... what year is it? Ah, yes, 2021.

I'm here with my annual blog post, because let's be real, I've been disconnected from this fandom since like 2016. But I was digging through a lot of old screenshots I had, and had a lot of fond memories of my time in the MLP fandom.

Episode 100... · 11:43pm Jun 13th, 2015

Arguably the worst episode of the show by far, but still mildly entertaining at times. The references were amusing at best and physically painful at worst. I can't imagine I'll be watching this one again anytime soon.

I can see why people enjoy it, I just don't enjoy it myself. There was just too much fanwank for me. If it were a fanfic, I don't think it would've been well received.

At the very least, we got this:

Gummy was the best part of this episode, imo.

I know what you mean

I thought it was okay, but I hated the fact that Vinyl Scratch was a mute. So many fans, myself in clouded, have been dying to hear her voice for like forever now, and uh oh, she doesn't have one!

3146624 My favorite part was the changeling.

The backlash from them not choosing the overwhelmingly accepted fan voice (Nowacking) would be too much for both them and her. For her own sake it's better that they leave Vinyl mute, IMO.

Exactly, which is why I only watched it once.

Same, I really enjoyed it bar a couple of things. But I know this is unlikely to ever happen again so I'm just going to enjoy it for what it was. Simple pointless fun

3146674 Isn't that statement self-contradictory?

It's okay. Everybody's wrong sometimes.

To be fair, if blog posts could be voted on, this one would probably have a ton of downvotes.

3146787 I know, but it speaks volumes on the collective insecurity of the brony community when someone says anything remotely bad about their precious show (especially when it concerns the fanon they've created).

"References" aren't jokes. Pointing at something and going "look at this! Do you know what this is? This is something you've seen in another show!" just isn't funny. You have to do something with it, actually tell a joke. This whole episode, despite being way more comedic in theme than most others, only had a small handful of things that even qualify as jokes.

Towards the middle of the episode, I was kinda alright with it as a stupid fun outing that can't even remotely be taken seriously, but there are so many better ways to handle a fan thank-you episode than this.

The fanwank is definitely overwhelming, but instead of sitting there uncomfortably as DHX jerks you off throws pandas at you, instead just lean back and enjoy it.

Given the fact that the characters literally jumped the shark

I cant help but think that this episode was made to be nothing more then a goof.

Also gunny needed to be voiced by Morgan Freeman.

Truth be told, I was eh about it myself. I liked it overall, but like for you, the oversaturation did start to wear its welcome fast. Still, it's not as bad as Spike At Your Service (but that's not saying much).

I like reading opinions that are on both sides of the coin here. While I did enjoy the episode for what it was. A special episode to celebrate the big 100. Not real common in animation to reach even that milestone. Admittedly I am not really a huge fan of the BG ponies. It is my hope that Hasbro and DHX will not make many further episode for fan pandering service. As I have said. I did enjoy the episode I just hope this dose not become a normal thing for them.
