A bit of some bad news

I'm afraid I have some bad news in regards to the story. About a few days ago, my 4 year old laptop up and died on me which pretty much destroyed the latest chapter. I was hoping to get it up by month's end but now I'm afraid it won't be out until Feb.

    Villainy 101

And so the identity of the Shadow has been revealed. I know it was pretty obvious from the start but at least I hope I made it dramatic enough.

    I'm back baby!

Greetings to all my readers. It's certainly been a while hasn't it? My goal was to finish this story within a year but it seems as though life had other plans for me. Over the past few months, I've had to spend an unexpected hiatus on personal matters. You see, I suffer from depression but a new therapist and new medication has done wonders for me. It's also forced me to take a good hard

    The Discord Effect

So let's talk about what I've done in this latest chapter. Mirror Discord being defeated by the Shadow following his possession of Mirror Sombra is what's known as a Worf Effect; when the biggest and strongest character is defeated by the villain as a means to show how much of a threat the villain is. Not only did the Shadow defeat MD, but also managed to seal his powers, and by extension those

The Discord Effect · 6:07am Jun 11th, 2015

So let's talk about what I've done in this latest chapter. Mirror Discord being defeated by the Shadow following his possession of Mirror Sombra is what's known as a Worf Effect; when the biggest and strongest character is defeated by the villain as a means to show how much of a threat the villain is. Not only did the Shadow defeat MD, but also managed to seal his powers, and by extension those of Prime Discord as well (the exact nature as to how will be revealed in the next chapter though if you remember the original Reflections story you might already have guessed it). Now there were pragmatic reasons for me doing this and not just for character shilling. First of all, being a reality warper, just having one Discord gives him the potential for being a story breaker. And since I have two in Shattered Glass if I didn't put some limit on them then sooner or later someone's going to ask why either of them is allowing the Shadow to just run around doing whatever he wants. Second, the "connection" between the two Discords is going to play a major part in future chapters.

However, I couldn't have the Shadow go DBZ on MD. After all, if brute force was all it took to defeat Myxlplyx then he wouldn't keep coming back every 90 days to give Superman grief. A good Worf Effect has to be believable because if poorly handled, it'll come across as so overly contrived not even Naruto would believe it. In this case, when the Shadow fought MD, rather than outright attack him, he mentally and emotionally destroyed him by trapping him in a glamour embodying all of his fears. With MD confused and distracted, the Shadow was able to wear him down before finally trapping him in a way that left him entirely at the Shadow's mercy. It's a common weakness I've noticed among reality warpers (Discord, Myxlplyx, Q) that because of their powers and despite their reputation for being unpredictable, they have a tendency to underestimate their situation and their opponents which leads them unable to adapt to anything they themselves don't expect.

Well, hopefully next chapter will be up in two weeks; when the Shadow's identity will finally be revealed.

...the Shadow's identity will finally be revealed.

I'm going to assume the Shadow is NOT Sombra Prime.

This is because, if it is, then it's just so obvious that hiding it was defeated by the narrative itself.

So again, I'll just assume I'm wrong about the Shadow being Sombra Prime.

Yeah but I like to pretend it's a surprise for dramatic effect.
