tLoE X: Griffins? What are Griffins? · 12:07am May 30th, 2015
(I apologize if this is late, my browser decided that it did not like FimFiction when I tried to upload it).
Hello, and Welcome back to "the Land of Equestria!" In this, our Tenth Installment, we delve into a facet of Equestrian Society that, frankly, I never thought I'd get the chance to do, but thanks to the most recent episode (The Lost Treasure of Griffinstone), I finally have it! This week's Facet is Equestria's Foreign Policy! Now, if it hadn't been for the last episode, talking about this would have been nothing more than sheer speculation, but now I believe there is some concrete evidence of some fishy practices going on....
Let's start off with the example of Griffinstone. Equestria's apparent last known information on the other nation showed it as a prosperous and proud monarchy, showcasing great wealth and military strength (at least of a reasonable degree). Yet when Rainbow and Pinkie arrive, they find a disheveled, run down capital filled with ruined buildings, crumbling statues and absolutely no identifiable central government (The best way to describe the Griffin nation from what was shown is and Anarcho-Capitalist Society, in which every individual cares only for their own interests, and each individual can only really associate with others through monetary/businesslike means). SO, based on severe shock at the state of the nation, the ruined city, and Equestria's lack of information on these creatures, I'd say that Equestria has little to no communication with the Griffin Kingdom. But perhaps this is an\ Isolated case? Or simply not feasible due to the lack of a centralized government to communicate with in the first place?
Turns out, it's not. Exhibit B, ladies and gentleman: The Changeling Kingdom. Yet another ravaged kingdom, with apparently very little information on it. For one, Equestria was seen as a distant target, and one that wouldn't communicate with changelings, at least not on a national scale, given that Queen Chrysalis mentioned Equestria as only a target, nothing more. She attacked its capital in order to secure a steady food supply for her subjects, most of which were starving, and failed. Now, a major difference between the Changelings and the Griffins is that the Changelings had a large, Centralized force with which to actually attempt an attack. However, both Griffinstone and the Changeling Kingdom are poor, ruined nations with little to no communication to or from Equestria. Now that may paint Equestria in a pretty bad light, but it would be unfair to make it look so bad just based on two nations right?
Well, let us use a more recent Example: the Buffalos. Appleoosa never communicated to them, and they never communicated to Appleoosa, thus leading to conflict. In fact, if the Mane 6 hadn’t stood on both sides of the argument, Appleoosa would still be in conflict with the Buffalo Tribes, likely with no solution, and potentially calling upon Central Equestria for backup. And how about the dragons? They’ve been shown to be sentient and migrate together, yet no major communication has been attempted to them, on the grounds that the Ponies were too afraid of them! And suppose that all these dying/ undeveloped nations outside of Equestria weren’t the first? Notice how Donkeys, Mules, and Cows are rare. What if they came from nations that died off, and were simply absorbed into the Equestrian Empire? How about Luna’s Night guard? Those ponies in Luna eclipsed had serpentine eyes and bat wings, where are they from?
And yet one instance stands out: the Visit of the Duke and Duchess of Maretonia (Potentially a large City-State, given that each Town has its own flag and government, but they were introduced as if they were foreign, thus we shall work on the assumption that they somehow were). They were not only openly communicated with, but warmly welcomed, and great lengths were taken to show that their visit was important. The major difference here? Maretonia is a potentially Rich (based on clothing, but I’ll say potentially just in case), PONY nation. It may be hard to admit, but Equestria’s foreign policies against all non-pony nations/groups is minimal to nonexistent, which may point to either xenophobia, uncaring, or perhaps (I dare suggest) pony supremacy. But that’s just speculation. What we KNOW for a fact is that the surrounding nations are either undeveloped or dying, and that Equestria is large and prosperous. Just a thought.
TLDR? TLDR.
-Equestria’s neighboring nations like Griffinstone and the Changelings are dying or failing miserably.
-Equestria does not communicate well outside of its own people.
-Equestria is apparently the only major prosperous nation in the whole land. Also the largest.
-Is Equestia Xenophobic? Shows enough signs.
-Are…are Equestrians actually the bad guys? Couldn’t be right…? Right…?
Until next time, keep this in mind, and keep on with whatever you do best.
I’m Ironsmith, Invent on.
Actually for all we know griffinstone was abandoned by the rest of gryphon kind after the king decided to be mopey because his shiny thing was gone so they formed a democratic society and left griffinstone as a reminder why their old system failed basically griffinstone is Detroit just replace the auto industry with the monarch system of government.
I thought it was pretty obvious that most ponies were xenophobic and a little racist mostly from bridal gossip and the fact the only dragon in equestrian care is an unpaid child laborer.
NOAH NOAH NOAH THE PROMISE DAY HAS COME!!!
