The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone · 10:57pm May 23rd, 2015

I rarely comment on episodes, usually it's mostly because I just don't have that much to say about it or whatever I felt about it just wasn't worth talking about. However I decided to touch on this episode because of Gilda's return and how it obliterated my headcanon from orbital death star. :rainbowlaugh:

Personally I was neither surprised nor disappointed that happened, that's the problem with headcanons the shows will eventually obliterate them at times.

However all is not lost because on the flip side the episode actually confirmed few theories I was having myself about Gryphons and even Gilda, well confirmed is maybe too generous term, more like it came very close. :derpytongue2:

Regarding Gryphons in general we had very little on them until this episode, but the two examples we had, Gilda and Gustav, I figured they were probably gruff and not easily approachable, them being obsessed with bits was though a surprise to me but fit well with the general attitude I had in my head.

Gilda I had always figured still living outside the Gryphon kingdom but I suppose it made sense she moved back, the one thing I wasn't expecting was that she was living so badly she was trying to sell bad scones to get back out.

Which brings me to what I was actually going to talk about, Gilda repairing her relationship with Dash. As predictable it was, I liked it because it went close to a personal theory I had about Gilda and her attitude in Griffon to Brush off. For me it showed that she clearly did value in her own way her friendship with Dash and had come a long way to visit her and was then constantly annoyed by this pink hyperactive pony who seemed to want to hog all the attention. Now I like Pinke Pie fine (from a respectable distance with a TV screen between us) , but I never really found her attitude in the early parts of her interaction with Gilda and Rainbow understandable at all, in fact it felt selfish and obsessive. Gilda had come a long way to meet a school friend and Rainbow Dash had apparently not seen her either in a long time and Pinke couldn't just respect that and leave them be for the day? Instead of just barging right back to them after just few hours?

Now Gilda's attitude and how she handled that wasn't exactly ideal and rather violent and the way she was portrayed we were clearly not to take her side at all. However from a certain perspective I could understand her frustration, now I was never a Gilda supporter, but I could still get it why she was angry that this complete stranger was constantly interrupting her visit with her best and apparently only friend.

This is why I wasn't shy of using Gilda in my story In the Broad Daylight in a semi-protagonist role. I had her tagged as someone who was more attitude than really truly rotten and if confronted correctly had a somewhat decent if boneheaded person inside. Gilda always struck me as a chronic "foot in mouth" type of person.

I'm probably barely making sense here. :pinkiehappy:

What I'm getting at, today's episode confirmed to me that although Gilda was a bone headed jerk in Griffon to Brush Off, she considered Dash a close friend and parts of her behaviour was frustration at this stranger continuously interrupting her visit with someone who she considered herself close too. But seeing as she seems to be a chronic sufferer of the "Foot in mouth" disease (Or is it talon in Beak disease?) doesn't handle it in the proper way and instead lashes out.

My only problem with Dash and Gilda mending their friendship is that only Gilda apologizes in the episode, I really think Pinkie should have apologized too for her earlier behaviour, but that's just me.

I think I can now honestly call myself a Gilda fan after today's episode, before I was just more understanding of her attitude but otherwise indifferent but now I think I'm just going to outright say that I like her. Yeah she is a jerk but she is the kind of jerk I can learn to like, which I did... um :derpyderp2:

Anyway, I think I've incoherently rambled enough about this. I liked today's episode, I officially like Gilda now and though my headcanon 'asplode it still did confirm/or get close to few things I had in my head.

And if any of you could make any sense of my rambling. You get a cookie :twilightsheepish:
