    Season 9 Retrospective

Warning: Season-wide spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

I need to write this while the emotions of the finale are still fresh in my mind. Though the stories will continue in the comics (and countless fanfics, I'm sure), this is truly the end of an animation era. So, as a final season, did it go out with a bang, or a whimper? Follow me below the break to see my take.

Mama pajama, that was a rush. I really feel like something was rekindled here. Season 8 was alright, but I will admit it didn't have the same energy that made me fall in love with this show. This episode, however, had that energy in spades. Follow me below the break as I just gush a bit on what an epic season opener this was.

    Season 8 Retrospective

Welp, that was fun, huh? I know for most of you, the season ended earlier thanks to the Australian broadcast, but I didn't have the luxury of checking that out. Also, I'd rather do things by the book.

    Random Thoughts: The Washouts

Warning: Spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Let me just start off by saying great googily moogily, what a weekend this was! I thought Season 7 had scheduling problems, but this was just insane! Well, at least it's still trackable. Unlike some other shows I can mention *cough*TheLoudHouse*cough*.

Headcanon Corner: Griffon Culture · 4:30pm May 23rd, 2015

Warning: Spoilers from the latest episode, The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone, abound. Proceed with caution.

So, we finally get a glimpse of the Griffon Kingdom at long last. Seeing as I've written a story that took place in the Griffon Kingdom at least in part (which I have tagged for your convenience), I feel I should weigh in on this bit of world-building. See, at first glance, the Griffon Kingdom I've described is not that similar to Griffonstone. But here's the thing I'd like to mention. Twilight said that Griffonstone was at the heart of the Griffon Kingdom. That says to me that it's not the only city in the Griffon Kingdom. And while it does appear to have a lot of prestige, I don't think it's the cornerstone of griffon culture, either.

Think about the griffons we've seen in canon before this episode aired. There's Gilda (who made a very welcome return in this latest episode), Gustav le Grand, and the griffons competing in the Equestria Games. It's those last griffons that I want to draw your attention to. See, if Griffonstone's problems extended all across the Griffon Kingdom, how could they have put together a flight team that managed to snag the bronze at the Games? The griffons of Griffonstone clearly had no regard for one another, so it would be unlikely that they would be willing to cooperate with each other, much less to the point where they were any sort of competitive threat.

So, here's my headcanon. Griffonstone was once the capital of the Griffon Kingdom back in the day. But after their treasure was lost, they fell from grace, and a new capital was erected elsewhere. This would make Griffonstone something of a lost city, like Atlantis or El Dorado. Except it's not lost, because you can easily go there. You just wouldn't want to. Yeah, I can't help but imagine that Twilight's information was a wee bit outdated. But, I digress. My point is that it's very likely that the griffons of Griffonstone are not the best example of griffon kind as a whole. There are plenty of civilized griffons out there, such as one Gustav le Grand. And who knows? Maybe some of them are so cordial that they accept a mare as a mate and have hippogriff children.

...

No, I will never let go of that dream. The puzzle pieces are there; you can't stop me from putting them together. :rainbowwild:

On a tangental note, did anyone else think of the Ferengi when the griffons kept asking for bits, or is that just me? :rainbowhuh:

Well, to be fair, Twilight did admit that her information was probably outdated (or at least that she had no idea who the current king was). The episode was definitely a good glimpse into griffon culture, or at least part of it. I still love your take on it though in Marehunter.

In regards to your tangental note: I have no idea what a ferengi is. So, at the moment, it's probably just you. :applejackunsure:

I can work with this... Griffinstone is part of the Griffin Kingdoms but with the loss of their king the kingdom (but not the other griffin kingdoms) it fell into its.current state. No heir has been found and the High King doesn't have the power to step in yet.

3091694 The Ferengi are an alien species from Star Trek that pretty much would do anything for money. There's an episode in Deep Space 9 that takes place on the Ferengi homeworld, and pretty much every exchange with them is exactly like how the griffons talked to Pinkie and Rainbow in the episode. :twistnerd:

Ouch, Griffonstone is like the Detroit of the Griffon Kingdom.

3092393 Yeah, except in DS9 when the Prophets try to arrogantly re-write Ferengi society, Quark gets a chance to actually defend Ferengi values. The Prophets didn't have baking powder though, so I guess it all evens out.

Holy poops, I forgot about the Ferengi. Mind === Blown :derpyderp2:

i.. actually love this headcanon. mind if i maybe use this?

3125328 Not at all. Go right ahead. :scootangel:
