    Sincere Shilling!

If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

In the Place the Wild Horses Sleep by Lucky Dreams

This was pretty good. Just not my kind of story. Language use was quite good and it did a wonderful job evoking the emotions it was trying to invoke, but I was still bored for most of it. Too fairy tale / children story for my tastes. No real worldbuilding or cool characters, which are my #1 and #2 favorite parts of a story. I’d still call this one highly recommended if you enjoy that sort of thing. I prefer my childrens tales to be more like Harold and the Purple Crayon myself.

As of this post this story is still the most reviewed story on the big master review list.

For Whom We Are Hungry by Cold in Gardez
[story link] [my original review]

Brace yourself, I am about to blow your mind. This story by Cold in Gardez is really good. I know, right? Anyway, this was really good. Lots of interesting worldbuilding, great emotional stuff, and great use of language. One of the top five stories of the contest for sure. Highly recommended. This has what is probably the best exploration of a hive mentality I’ve run across in a piece of fiction. This stuff is going right into my changeling headcanon.

Omega-7 by KaBar42
[story link] [my original review]

This has a cool scifi idea, but is held back by the poor writing. Both technical and more thematic. Case in point: Canterlot is being attacked by horrible aliens and Shining Armor is trying to fight them using a crossbow. Just a brief scene before he gets hurt, but no magic use at all. So wrong on so many levels. Still, some cool ideas if you are willing to endure the crud.

Our Little Accident by JMac
[story link] [my original review]

A bit generic. Writing isn’t bad, but the story is kind of bland. I’d call this an interesting thought experiment that was stretched out for about twice as long as it should have been.

A Sparkling Gem by Havok SCOUT
[story link] [my original review]

Bland as all heck. I wonder if this is how some people feel about the story-light slice-of-life stories I’ve enjoed. This one had one or two decent moments, and a better alicorn in hiding story than A Janitor Named Dustbowl, but I would not recommend it.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
