Ugh, what did I just watch a week ago? · 10:51pm May 8th, 2015
Oh right, there was a new episode a week ago and…I must have blocked it out of my memory for it being so horrifying.
Talk to big scary strangers that are wanted by the police kids, because they won’t, you know…do bad things to you or anything.
But even wore than the fact that we now have TWO MLP episodes that basically tell children to do some really stupid shit (remember Apple Bloom’s pie delivery that she didn‘t get grounded for, I know you do) there is the even greater sin that this episode commits.
Trouble Shoes’s cutie mark…how the fuck did he get it?
I mean think about it. A cutie mark is a representation of a pony’s true self that they obtain after realizing who they are and what they’re supposed to do in life. They either get it when they gain that realization like when AJ just stood next to her family and her tramp stamp appeared, or when they realize their special talent and interest like with Fluttershy, or when the pony who’s always known what she wanted to do proves that she can fulfill her dreams like when Twilight got hers. In short, when the pony in question has a revelation about herself that puts her on the path to her destiny.
So how the fuck does a guy who has no idea what his mark means and the wrong revelation about he’s supposed to do in life get one?
When are you updating your stories?
You've managed to sum up my belief that as of the last few seasons, the writing staff seems to have no fucking clue what a cutie mark is. I mean, all of a sudden having one is intricately tied to a ponies native magical abilities? When Dash and Twilight were just fine before getting them? I don't buy it. Maybe if they'd been established that way from the start I wouldn't have as big a problem as I did with the season premier, but from what we've been shown before, it should have taken the girls all of five minutes to bust out of that shack. As it is the only reason they couldn't is the same reason no one said "Lets bring spike, he doesn't get to come with us as often as he likes, it'll be good for him." Because it would have let the Mane Six control their own fates instead of having to rely on others. And it would have let Luna and/or Celestia be badass, and god knows we can't have that.

I work on them when I can fanfiction don't pay the rent and I don't do the donation thing
I got the exact same vibe...
as for the tramp stams... I'm still letting the implications of the applebloom one swirl in my head... the ponies who get stamps for shit like sweeping or pest control... was that just blooms fears or can a ponies talent be as something stupid or mundane as that?... and how the fuck would that even work?

Well AB's stuff was all a dream, but Luna implies you can't get a cutie mark in something you hate.
And I've known plenty of people with bottom of the ladder jobs that are happy where they are because of the simplicity of the work.
Maybe he's just that damn unlucky.

I think it comes down more to "You can't get a cutie mark you don't think you deserve." If you do not acknowledge it as your talent, you don't get it. Unfortunately for Troubleshoes, he thought he was bad luck long before he got his cutie mark in it. If he disagreed with that assessment then the flank mark wouldn't have dogged him.
This is similar to a pony getting a really vicious cutie mark, or a criminal cutie mark. You could only get such a thing if you KNEW that was you. You might not want that dagger on your flank, but if you know you deserve it...
