    Yay or Nay Clop Scene?

Title is pretty self explanatory. I'm debating if I want to do full throttle clop scenes, but not a clopfic. Never a straight clopfic. Thoughts?

    It's been a minute

Hey everyone, not going to lie, it's been a good while. I really feel like I just needed a bit of time to myself. It may sound weird, but always having people asking for a new chapter when you're just completely at a writing impasse really stressed me out. Writing was fun, because I did it for me, but it started to feel like I was writing for a quota.

    I'm leaving

I've been putting this off for awhile, but I am finally leaving the Brony fandom. It's not for any trivial reason, but instead, I just feel as though I need to move on with my life. I have recently enrolled in college, and need to dedicate all my time to my schooling. To be blunt, it is very unlikely that I will be returning. It is also very unlikely I will finish many of my stories, as I simply

    A Dragon's Flame Controversy

Let me start by saying, if you're not a fan of politics or power struggles, odds are you're not going to like this story. If you're here just for the Spilight shipping, you're going to be doing quite a bit of chapter skipping. Since I feel this story will strike up a good deal of controversy, let me go ahead and explain a few things before they blow up.

Intelligence · 5:44pm May 4th, 2015

Throughout Equestria, almost all species of animals show some degree of intelligence, some more than others. It's not clear how or why so many species learned to think for themselves and even communicate, however, one fact remains; they are still animals. So what would happen if one day, the intelligence upon which their civilization was built, suddenly began to disappear?

It began slow, a few clusters of forgetting things, then gradually their symptoms would get worse. Within a three days, they had the mental capacity of a five year old, within six, they could no longer speak, on day seven, all couscous thought was absent. When it became clear that this was turning into an epidemic many tried to contain it, but by the time the first symptoms had appeared, it was already too late. Within two months, almost all intelligent behavior for any species was erased from Equestria.

While I am immune to the disease, I was not unscathed. I was forced to watch my friends and best friend Twilight, one of the greatest minds the world has ever seen, slowly fade away. I watched her realize what was happening to her, realize she was beginning to lose herself. After it was over, they were left a soulless shell of what they once were. Unable to speak, show emotions, or even feed themselves. It is almost as if a zoo animal raised in captivity was suddenly dropped into the wild.

My name is Spike, and I haven't seen another conscious creature in over five years.

So, what do you think? I decided to play with the fact that the characters in the show are animals, and wanted to show a situation in which something caused them to revert back to just that; animals. It's something I haven't seen done before, and think it might be fun to write about. Also, as you can see, Spike is immune, and forced to take care of Twilight as if she was a pet, but at the same time he tries to survive, find a cure, and desperately searches for other survivors.

While the disease I'm portraying isn't deadly, it shows what would happen if everyone no longer knew anything. Basic things like food, water, and safety now become a massive issue, leading to billions of deaths in a few weeks. It really gives you a bleak sense of just what Spike has been put through.

I really like this idea. I've never seen one like this before.
Alright i'm on-board if this plans to be a future project of yours.

Also i can see how Spike could be immune, him being a Mythical Dragon and all. Maybe because he is more magically resistant or maybe. Just maybe, he is always under threat of succumbing to animalism. His brain won't let him but after being surrounded by animals for so long he is struggling. Maybe the only thing keeping him sane is the very thing he shared with Twilight; Books.

Thats one way i looked at this idea. Be that as it may, i would love to see this developed to be as good as Flu season.

A truly chilling plotline for a story since Spike would have to care for everypony he cares about all on his own but as he's alone, some of them are bound to wander off and just vanish, leaving him to fear the worst.

Though I do have a question regarding the epidemic, does it affect the animals as well? Like Angel Bunny, Harry the Bear and every other animal that have displayed intelligence? If it doesn't, then Fluttershy would at least be safe with her animal friends taking care of her though if they can be affected...I hope no carnivores were nearby.

An interesting concept but there is some need for clarification.
Are you talking about higher intelligence such as communication and understanding
or are you talking about all forms of higher brain activity such as the the removal of any and all self preservation methods every living thing has (to a degree, i.e, plants).
This would be the crucial element of the story, if it is a disease that is attacking the brains higher motor functions to the point where a subject cannot even feed themselves (or understand what is and is not food) then it's more of an apocalyptic situation, but lacks the hope of an eventual "happy ending".
Bare in mind the hope of a good ending to such a pandemic is not the same as actually establishing an end, it allows the reader to infer a "better future" after the end of the story, much like the ending to a Resident Evil game's ending (even though you know there is gonna be another installment at a later time).

I like the idea, but dislike it being THAT dark. I think it would be more interesting if they simply turned into animals that could survive, but that's just me.

3045345 Go bleak af or go home...

3045811 Fair enough I guess? I don't mean to poke holes in your idea. :twilightblush:

Thank you.

Actually, Spike is immune because he's reptilian. Viruses can't jump that large of a species gap. Mammals? Sure. Reptiles? Eh...

I don't think it'll be like Flu Season honestly. Flu Season was more of a realistic portrayal of a pandemic, this is really just an absolute worst case scenario possible.

3044043 True, but I'm thinking about making Spike relocate to Canterlot or Manehattan in order to search for other survivors... Which he doesn't find. I think the urban setting might work well with this story. The eerie emptiness of a city, formerly home to millions, would add a lot to the story. Think about it. Spike has everyone round up in a parking garage stable with central park to graze in and grow crops.

All mammals are affected by the virus. Basically anything that can talk, or show the least bit of intelligence is totally reverted to animalistic instincts.

3045227 Self preservation is still intact. Basically, they act just as their real world counterparts do. Totally animalistic, but still with a drive for territory and self preservation.
The thing is, they still know how to eat, and what food is, but lets say one lives in Manehattan. Now the question becomes, how will they open doors to get to the food? How will they reach land where there is food? How will they know to get around fences and gates? They're trapped essentially. Because of that, those who aren't on the countryside starve. But those who do manage to graze in fields and find water, now have to deal with a whole new series of predators. Species like diamond dogs will be more wolflike, as well as other formerly sentient predators, will kill many. Without knowledge of healthcare, many would die due to simple disease, and serve as a breeding ground for a plethora of wild animal borne diseases like rabies. Essentially, you're looking at a die off of between 95-99.9% of the population. Simply because they don't know any better.
Let me tell you right now, a happy ending is very unlikely. The best you can hope for is a cure, but the fact remains billions upon billions are already dead.

3045872 I like dark apocalyptic stories honestly, but this one does push it a little.

3046682 Both Canterlot and Manehattan sound quite viable but for different reasons. With Canterlot, Spike would probably try to see if the ponies had got close to a cure or solution to the epidemic. Failing that, he'd probably pour through whatever relevant texts in the archives though he would most likely come up empty since even if this did happen in the past, no one would have remained intelligent long enough to create a cure. Plus, it'd be sad for him to see the princesses milling about like regular horses.

In Manehattan, he'd have access to various amenities and supplies that he could use towards safeguarding the ponies under his protection, which would be required if the city had a zoo featuring carnivores or if the city had a gryphon population.

Of course, you could have the story setting already be in Manehattan with Spike already done going through the archives with Canterlot. Also, trying to relocate the ponies he cares about across such long distances, there are bound to be some losses. I can imagine Spike having nightmares over the ones that were lost.

Also, I have a couple of more questions concerning epidemic, does it affect the ponies' ability to use their magic and I don't mean unicorn magic alone but stuff like pegasi's ability to fly and move clouds or earth pony strength. Unicorn magic would require conscious or at least instinctual effort so I'm uncertain on how the ponies would be affected in that regard.

Since only mammals were affected, does that mean that the Changelings are unaffected by the epidemic? Granted, I'm not sure if they're going to be included in this story of yours or not.

3046701 Well, yes, it pushes it because it would be ultra realistic as in no hope. People like stuff such as the Fallout game universe because the creatures still living there have a chance of living and surviving. In this one it's almost like (at least it seems this way to me) game over from the get go. Like END OF PONIES which is about the journey, but we all know it will, more than likely, end badly. Shrugs.

3046670 Right, Thank you for informing me.
Well, best a' luck.

3046698 Now that's what I call a true horror scenario, I look forward to it.:moustache:
