    A New Hope

Someone made a suggestion in my last post, and it was a good suggestion, so without further ado:

    Endings and Beginnings

Hey'all. Once again it's been embarrassingly long.

    Back at it

Oh boy. It's been more than two years, but Uniformity is finally out of hiatus. I didn't expect it to be that long, but things like that are hard to predict.

As they say, better late than never.

Along with the new chapter there's a brief summary of events so far, since I expect I'm not the only one whose memory needs a bit of jogging.

    Here again

It's that time of year again. I'm talking about NaNoWriMo of course.

I have been writing practically zilch all year. Just haven't had the energy for it. I know you're all waiting for some sort of update - new chapters and new stories - but sadly I can't promise you any of that yet.

    Uniformity officially on hiatus

I think I owe you all an update on the status and progress of Uniformity.

With Back and Forth done, I had hoped to get right back to Uniformity and finally give you some regular updates. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened. I haven't been able to write anything lately, and I kinda feel like a mess right now, trying to juggle everything.

Uniformity officially on hiatus · 7:26pm May 1st, 2015

I think I owe you all an update on the status and progress of Uniformity.

With Back and Forth done, I had hoped to get right back to Uniformity and finally give you some regular updates. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened. I haven't been able to write anything lately, and I kinda feel like a mess right now, trying to juggle everything.

Back and Forth was kind of a bust for me, and perhaps that's affected my enthusiasm a little for Uniformity and writing in general. Or maybe it's just how long it's been since I really worked on it. Maybe it's that the story has reached a bit of a slow point, and its direction feels a bit uncertain. The fact is that what little writing time I do find these days, I usually end up distracting myself with ideas and plans for other stories.

Since I can't seem to focus my mind on this right now, and with everything else in my life, I've decided it's best to be honest - with myself and you - and let you know that I'm putting Uniformity on official hiatus until further notice. Unless I get a sudden, unexpected and irresistible urge to sit down and write the next chapter, I won't be working or thinking about it for at least a couple of months. Instead I'll be focusing on other important stuff that hopefully will help in the long run.

Hopefully by July or early August I'll be feeling much more free and enthusiastic about writing again, and will be able to finish Uniformity the way it deserves, with regular updates. But for now, I can't keep pretending that it might be any day now, 'cause it sadly won't.

I hope you all understand.

The same thing tends to happen with my attempts at writing, so I totally understand. Actually admitting you won't be updating soon counts for a lot, too. Way too many authors just drop off the face of the earth without a word, and leave their readers hanging. If you can do something besides that (and you have) than a hiatus or cancellation is fine with me.

Life is too short for writing stories you're not inspired to do. That's what writers in the television industry have to do, the poor bastards.

Hap

Well, I was wondering where the updates were. I really have been enjoying the story, it's one of the first I ever started reading.

I look forward to the day it comes out of hiatus. Until then, may inspiration strike you and inspire you to write what you enjoy.

We understand, enough said.

Yeah, I don't think it's fair to leave you hanging without at least letting you know.

If this wasn't a story I had already partially published, I would totally just put it in a drawer and forget about it. And if a day came when inspiration struck, cool, if not, eh. I've got plenty of stories like that sitting in my virtual drawer. But I do like to finish what I commit to, and publishing part of the story is a commitment.

I also think it's a good idea sometimes to finish no matter what, no excuses. It's a good exercise.

Thats true. People get a lot of practise writing openings and not much writing endings. I think about that a lot.

Speaking of I'm almost finished year 4 already, goddamn.

As one who considers this one of his top favorite stories, among the likes of Fallout: Equestria, I don't mind one bit. I'm content to wait as long as necessary.

I wouldn't want you forcing yourself. Take as much time as you need, I say.
