The problem with ideas... · 11:21am Jul 16th, 2012

Is that they're not always easy to write down. I have several of them, and I have started writing some too, but the problem is always how to start and where to take the plot.

The list of ideas is as follows:

Sugarcup.

The inspiration:This was inspired by the toy, a 'playful pony' named Sugarcup (though she in some places has also been named Cupcake) long before even the announcement of Baby Cakes. Sugarcup's drawing made her look like a recoloring of Fluttershy, which brought me to:

The idea: Sugarcup is the daughter of the cakes, but because of health problems, she doesn't live at home. The canon of how both of the Cakes have pegasi and unicorns in their family history gave me the idea, that Sugarcup suffers from Lobstein syndrome, or "brittle bone disease", in her case because of her pegasi ancestry. This has made the Cakes overprotective of her, but unfortunately to the point where she has come to resent it. The story so far starts out with her visiting home as a surprise, and being startled by meeting Pinkie Pie, who has pretty much been like another daughter for the Cakes.

The problem: Aside from her story being told by the Cakes, and there being a horrible accident (no one dies, but there will be a hospital scene), I don't know where to take this story. If anyone has any suggestions, I welcome them (I'll be saying this a lot)

Prim and Proper

The inspiration: Short of the long, it was pretty much the scene in the 'Sweet and Elite' episode where the mane 6 interacted with the hoity toity rich ponies. Along with that, I've been inspired by a lot of authors who write about how Twilight comes from high class society.

The idea: When you're the princess' prize student, you can't avoid getting involved in some of the high class scenarios. Enter Miss Prim and Miss Proper, two ponies (possibly sisters) who were Twilight's etiquette teachers when she was young. Now, after the happenings in Sweet and Elite, they have seen that she clearly needs to relearn a few things. In the middle of this, her friends all get involved, and each of them learn a valuable in one way or another.

The problem: I have a few basic ideas for who should learn what. Twilight learns why the lessons she received in her youth became so valuable, Applejack for one learns a bit about doing business with high society ponies and Rainbow Dash learns to be less brash in some matters; Even Rarity learns a thing or two she didn't know already. But what should the remaining three learn? Let's be honest, Fluttershy might get intimidated to the point that she bursts into tears, and Pinkie Pie is... well, Pinkie Pie. Those last two are the most difficult, but again, ideas are welcome.

untitled story idea

The inspiration: Princess Celestia and Cheerilee share the same voice actress (Nicole Oliver), and both are teachers that love to interact with ponies. Problem is, ponies get so darn awkward around Celestia, which leads to:

The idea: In the day time, Celestia disguises herself as Cheerilee, and perhaps she has some kind of spell clone or illusion that takes care of court appearances, while other high appointed ponies take care of some of the paperwork. She doesn't do it *all* the time, sometimes switching places and has a spell clone or illusion in Cheerilee's stead.

The problem: Well, there aren't really any problems, it's just a simple idea. Heck, if anyone likes the idea and wants to take a shot at it, then go for it.

Untitled story idea 2

The inspiration: The idea comes from an OC pony of mine, Taz, who I have an askblog for (which is here for those curious). He is from the island of Tasmaneia and several ideas lead to this main one:

The idea: In the 1000 years since Luna's banishment, there has been a lot of things accomplished. Exploring the world is one of them, and somewhere along the way, Tasmaneia was discovered. Luna finds out about this, and because of the few books she finds on it report about strange, 'wild' magic, she decides to go for an incognito visit, instead of just jumping in as Princess Luna. Celestia talks her into taking the Mane 6 with her, and they all have quite an adventure that involves some of the cryptids of the place.

The problem: I know the real Tasmania is only a small island connected to Australia, but I have *no* idea how to turn Australia into a horse-punned name. Once again, ideas are welcome on that point. I have a few basic ideas on what to do otherwise and we'll see what I can get started with.

Cutiemark Ghost Hunters

The inspiration: I love ghost stories, and I love some of the Ghost Hunter episodes.that involved western towns. One of my main inspirations however, was the song "The Rider on the Range" along with the Firefly theme performed by The Browncoats.

The idea: Applejack and the mane 6 (along with the CMC) are invited to a party event, that takes place in one of the neighboring towns that is celebrating a ten year anniversary. Like Appleloosa, this town is peaceful enough, but only possibly because of a ghost pony that is said to protect the town from some very hostile buffalos that aren't as easy to befriend as Chief Thunderhoof's tribe.

The problem: No real problem here, I'm slowly working out this story. But any input is welcome nonetheless.

But yes, this is pretty much the list of stories I have in mind. If anyone gets ideas and suggestions, they are more than welcome to give them, be they something as simple as creatures for the Tasmaneia story, or lessons that can be provided in the Prim and Proper story.
