What if Rarity didn't recognise Suri Polomare... · 3:01pm Apr 17th, 2015

...because Suri lied about her past in Ponyville?

I'm not going to go as far as say Suri lied about being from Ponyville to begin with (though Rarity's flustered reaction and failure to double-check Suri's story does make that a possibility). But I do think there is something going on with regards Suri's past that wasn't revealed in the episode. There was a toy released of Suri, which seemed at odds with the character. It called her "Buttonbelle", and described her as loving to laugh and tell jokes.

Buttonbelle makes more "sense" as a name for a pony than Suri Polomare, which sounds constructed and fake- in fact, it sounds like the kind of name a small town pony might invent to make themselves sound more sophisticated when they reinvent themselves. As for the jokes and laughing- Suri does enjoy joking and laughing. But her laughing is directed at the misfortune of other ponies or at her own self-satisfaction, and "jokes" is how she gets out of difficult situations rather than lying.
The pony most recognizable for acting like that in Ponyville is Diamond Tiara.

Headcanon: Suri Polomare is Diamond Tiara's cousin, and her fashion line is funded by her "cool uncle", Filthy Rich. If she ever meets Rarity again, she will try laughing off stealing her fashion line as a joke, and she will tell everyony who listens that Coco Pommel was an ungrateful assistant who made a scene when Suri fired her... right up until Coco becomes successful, at which point Suri will have taught her everything she knows, and they parted amicably.

That.. is a very good headcanon, actually.

My thing with Suri is that she's Diamond's divorced mother, and that Diamond picked up her attitude from the way she saw her mother act. (for full break-up details, click here)

But this is really good. I'd like to see more of these headcanons of yours sometime (ever thought of a YouTube channel?).
