A Follower was banned. · 10:17pm Apr 14th, 2015
It would appear that the user A Follower was banned for what is now called "spam following" because some users find receiving follows that they don't believe that they earned to be annoying or even insulting. The people banned for this are those that are attempting to follow everyone on Fimfiction.
What makes me different:
1. I'm not trying to follow everyone, I'm doing an experiment to see how many followers one can get doing nothing but following other people.
2. If someone that I've followed expresses their dislike for what I do, or that they don't want my follow (Which several have), I gladly unfollow them and don't bother them again.
Why I do it:
1. It's interesting to see the results of this experiment, and I might actually use the data on it for a paper on the behavior of people on social media.
2. While some people find it to be a nuisance, many people like you, my followers, enjoy getting a random follow and treat it as an encouraged day brightener.
So my question to you guys is:
1. Do I hang up the towel, say I had a good run, and quit before a mod bans me. Or,
2. Present the above argument to a mod with you guys behind my back, and fight for what I'm doing.

Also, Please don't do anything until after the votes have been tallied. I really don't want to wake up tomorrow and find out that someone went to a mod half cocked and got them, me, and a few other people banned, along with starting a flame war.

I definitely fall into the category that enjoys the notification, regardless of circumstance.
With that said, however, I think I'll abstain from voting one way or the other...

Yes, A Follower is perma-banned. Her main account was given a 3-day temp-ban for "ban evasion," but she is back now. Eldarodo knows who the main is, and said that she is fine now.

I don't want more trouble with the Staff, let's just say I prefer to lie low. I'm not following dozens of users per day as I used to, and I strongly recommend you to do the same.

I honestly think you'd should present the arguement to the mods if they come asking about you, I wish you luck however no matter what the result is
To be honest, I see getting a new follower, no matter what or why they followed, as a good thing, and would happily follow them back!

I agree. If it comes to a situation where you may need justification for keeping your account, I'd stand behind your reasoning. My vote's yes.
Clearing things with Mods usually goes okay, as long as we have a decent case. It looks alright to me, so let's do it.

Getting followed is what started and strengthened some of my best friendships so you can gather my answer to this question, however I was at odds with some version of Follower. they rubbed me the wrong way, but you were nice about it.
Here's what I am thinking. Correct me if I am wrong, but, what if you just wanna see what everyone has to say in blog posts? It doesn't seem wrong to follow everyone possible, if you have a reason. Like what if you just want to read up on how everyone is doing, between chapter updates? I would say following lots of people. I know I kinda do that. In all honesty, if I see someone comment on 3 stories that I checked the comments section of, I follow them. If they have a story that I like, I follow them. If they have nice blog posts, I follow them. There are lots of other reasons why I would follow someone.
So I kinda back you on this.

While I believe you are doing a fantastic job of respecting other people's privileges on this site. I feel, regardless, that if someone is uncomfortable they should voice their concern to you first. This doesn't mean you should compromise your wish to conduct a social experiment, but I feel you may need to bring this concept to the Admins before you are just automatically banned without a say.
I'd happily stand by your wish of conducting an experiment. However, it's knightly and the Admins decision to allow it on their site. Make sure you know the rules before you play ball in someone else's yard.
I support your social experiment completely, and would love to see you continue doing your thing. However you may be better off telling an admin about what it is that you are doing and asking if it is okay to keep going. This A Follower person sounds more like a hacker then anything else, so you should be safe to do your thing, just make sure its okay with an admin. It will make them feel better about what you are doing if they know before hand anyway.
