The title says it. I haven't written anything of real substance in ages, and despite being quite frustrated with that I can never seem to write anything whenever I sit down to do so.
Normally I wouldn't want to make fairly frivolous posts like this, but I've decided to make an effort to communicate with you guys a little better.
Maybe I should write a teen novel? Get a movie adaption. Be rich. That'd be cool. Not sure I can write anything family friendly enough for a teen audience, but I can write the obligatory angsty main character with the best of them.
Anyone else think Worm is prime source material for adaption?
Writing a short story always helped me when I got stuck. Just a short 1-3k word fling. Though if you want to do a teen novel, that's cool as well. I'm not familiar with Worm, but if it seems good I don't see why it wouldn't work. (I just hope you were joking about the damn angsty main character trope)

I was half joking. Angst can be compelling as long as it doesn't overwhelm the story or define the character. Think... Black Jack in the first part of Project Horizons and compare her to Black Jack in the later acts of the same story. One of them is cool, badass and pushes the plot forward. The other is annoying, whines all the time and stopped making any kind of sense a long time ago.
Also, you should read Worm. It's kind of excellent.

I can't say I've read PH, I had a friend who did and he gave me a running commentary as things got progressively... er... progressed, in the story. But I do know what you're talking about, having a sad character is a legitimate thing to do in a story so long as it's handled responsibly.
