Harmonists Contest Reviews #6 · 3:58pm Mar 25th, 2015

Today I deliver you the review for She's just being Pinkie Pie by Gumball2

Taking out second spot on the podium was a very entertaining little thing that tackled Pinkie's odd behaviour throughout the show. Not content to let cartoon visual comedy be cartoon visual comedy, we delve into pseudo-science and university lectures! Because I don't get enough of those IRL.

I think this story was just shy of being really enjoyable. All the elements were there, and it carries itself forward well enough, but it's hard to get invested in the main character when we don't know all that much about him. As with a lot of lectures in real life: you don't know the guy, and you don't know what he's going through. But it did make it a bit tricky to really like the story.

But it's overlookable, in my opinion. The lecture is treated well, we get to see plenty of characters react to things, including Twilight and Pinkie herself, and it's quite entertaining. I don't think it'll be all that enjoyable for everyone, but for what it is, the lecture scene is nice. Perhaps had we seen more of Know it All, this might have been more accessible to more people. Maybe show him in the wings, or something.

My only real gripe, I think, was the ending. It's pretty typical of what we fans think of Pinkie, and after the really impressive build-up, I just wish it might have been more explosive, I guess. But I have to admit, a lot of people will get a kick out of it, so maybe it's just a personal thing.

What I think this story needed is to be longer, and show more of Know it All. As it is, it's fun, but admittedly a bit niche. A niche I enjoy, but even I'd want to see more of our main character.

To sum up, this is an interesting story you should probably read to see if you're one of those people who likes the themes and setting, or whether you aren't. At the very least, I don't think this is a story people are prone to disliking, and it's that kind of thing that got it second place. Few people will dislike it, but a good few people will really have fun with the lecture, the pseudo-science, and the statement at the end.

Only one review left before I've made good on my promise.
