An important question about "The Art of the Dress" · 4:48pm Jan 10th, 2012
So in the song "The Art of the Dress," from the amazing "Suited for Success" episode (a.k.a., Rarity Has The Best Melt-Down Ever, All Because Of Her Ingrate Friends), Rarity sings about making dresses for each of her pals. At one part, she sings:
Even though it rides high on the flank
Rainbow won't look like a tank
I'm stitching Rainbow's dress.
Now, as far as I can tell, there are two possible interpretations of these lines. The first interpretation is that Rarity means "even though the dress rides high, the dress won't make Rainbow look like a tank." The second, and I believe the far funnier interpretation, is that Rarity means "the dress won't make Rainbow look like a tank, which is how she usually looks." But the more I think about it, the more I think the first interpretation is the one that's actually correct.
Which bums me out a bit, because I laugh my butt off every time that line comes up in the song, because I love the idea of Rarity calling Rainbow a tank. Because of course, Rainbow IS a tank, and of course Rarity would HATE that about her.
So, whaddaya think? Do you read those line to mean the first or second interpretation? Or something else that I've missed entirely?
