Timeless, by Dusk Midnight Melody
This was a very short romantic one-shot surrounding Doctor Whooves and OC pony Oodlz. There isn't much story to this one, as it's mostly romantic fluff (but hey, what's wrong with that?).
Well, actually, it is a bit of a problem. Whilst this is quite easy to enjoy for any shipper addicted to fluff like myself, it's very hard for anyone else to share that opinion. There isn't much story about it, and it's basically fluff for fluff's sake.
It does have some depth to it, though: the story itself is fluff, but there's more going on in the background, hinting at the past these two ponies have shared, and what the Doc' is up to. It's more than just the sum of it's parts, if only just a little, and I can see whovians (is that the correct term?) enjoying this too.
Oodlz is a pretty solid OC too, with her own personality, and is very distinctive. This isn't a copy-paste OC I could find anywhere else: I got the impression Oodlz is her own thing, and frankly I would have liked to see more of her.
That's what I think the biggest failing of the story is: it doesn't have much scale. It's small, and granted those are enjoyable, and the sentiment is ever so nice, but it's only a small glimpse into what's going on. I would have liked to see more of this story, of for it to take a few more risks.
Another problem I only ever considered once discussing this with other judges is that it relies heavily on it's crossover material. I was surprised that I failed to notice this, considering I hate crossovers, but being British, Doctor Who is sort of hammered into my brain. I don't watch the show a lot, but c'mon: anyone in Britain knows the name (or as the case may be, doesn't). But it's true: reliance on the Doctor Who crossover material does stand against this story for being a good all-rounder.
But for what it is, I personally enjoyed this one. I think it could have been more, but it was five minutes I did enjoy, since behind my cold, hard exterior is a soul made of candyfloss. Whovian shippers will enjoy this one.
