Just a short word. · 8:32pm Mar 12th, 2015
Excuse me while I blow the dust off the account.
Today, the renowned author Sir Terry Pratchett died, aged 66. I wish to mention this because, as my dogged/devoted readers of Binky Pie will know, I enjoyed his works and am saddened at his passing.
It is due to this that I feel I really, really ought to actually get around to finishing Binky Pie. I've largely moved on from Ponies; I didn't enjoy the last season that much and haven't been keeping up with the fandom for over a year now, and have tried to focus on writing more original material, but I do not like leaving a task unfinished. Binky Pie was/is by far the most popular thing I've ever written, even unfinished, and so I do feel obliged to complete it, if just to reward the patience of those few who've actually read the whole thing.
My own writing style has changed somewhat since I started the story some four years ago, so I will probably be finishing it in a 'revised' format, starting from the first chapter and correcting, expanding or re-writing sections I no longer feel happy about.
I can't promise this will be swift or timely, but, for what it's worth, I do give my word that it will be done.
That's all.
Welcome back. Pity it couldn't be under better circumstances.
You live!
Nullus Anxietas. Finish as best you can. Just so you know this was one of the first stories I read way back when the only real place to read pony was on EQD. It remains one of my favorites. Still, I feel a bit down when oldtimers admit they've all but moved on.
Many of us will miss Terry Pratchett and his excellent wit. He was one of my favorite authors as a young man and still is.
I look forward to your future work on "Binky Pie" though. I can honestly say that you truly captured the spirit of his writing style.
Hmm... I have mixed feelings about rewrites. Your work is already better than most and digging through it might result in development hell. I've been there, believe me.
Not sure how to feel about it being rewritten. It's wonderful just the way it is.
This is the first I've heard about Sir Terry Pratchett death. I'm absolutely speechless. I just can't really comprehend it. He was the author who made stop liking and start loving it.
I am glad to hear that you're going to continue your story. It's excellently done, and a fitting tribute to one of the finest authors to grace fantasy fiction, and writing in general.
Thank you. Do Pterry proud.
RIP Terry Pratchett. I am taking it pretty hard. He was such an inspiration to me.
RIP. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Don't worry, I know what that's like myself. I don't intend to take down the old story. In fact I'm not entirely sure how I'll go about presenting the revised version, whether as a new entry or by inserting the newer text into the pre-existing chapters (while preserving the older text beneath it after a line break), but I'll work something out.
2871086 pastebin the old text?

Also possible, but ideally I'd rather have old and new on the same site for ease of access. I may create a new entry for the older text, but I'm not sure if that's allowed under site rules.
Either way, the revisions will not be major. It's more that there's three years separating the first and most recent chapters (and a further year on after that), and as a result, when I read through it myself I can see a distinct difference in style as a result of that length of time. I'd prefer it to read as if it was written as a whole, instead of being published chapter-by-chapter.
R.I.P., Terry Pratchett.
His words will forever live on in this giant Clacks network we call the Internet.
I don't much care for re-writes of old work, as it only cuts into forward progression. Quite frankly, when forward progression is next to nil... I say just move forward. If you have the ambition to come back and rework earlier portions after the fact, then fine...
Still, the fact is that you said it yourself... Binky Pie is by far your most popular work.
Why do you feel then that you need to change it before progressing forward?
I have faith that I will like what you have to write. You don't need to change what you already created to convince me to stick with this fine story!
As for Sir Pratchett... I think I need to get off my flank and actually put forth an effort to read some of those 70 plus books. For all the love I have for every aspect of every bit of every piece of his work, not to mention the works that are a work of his work, he's an author that I am acutely aware of, second hand.
