InquisitorM on "The Mailmare" · 8:44pm Mar 9th, 2015

InquisitorM wrote a brilliant, extended review of "The Mailmare" today. I say "brilliant" because he liked it.

It's strength, I think, lies with the fact that it is not a McGuffin that saves the world, not a spell, not a single, wall-eyed mare. No, the world is what the ponies make of it, and that makes it most pony story I have read in a good while.

I didn't mention that in my author's notes, probably because it never entered my head. I wouldn't ordinarily think of writing a McGuffin story; my mind doesn't work that way. But I appreciate that observation.

I like your honesty and attention to winning.

Apropos of nothing, I think I've got "The Mailmare's" theme song (and/or Derpy's leitmotif):

I think that point was a big factor for why I clicked favorite for the story. I found it to be the most reasonable interpretation of the "rebuild" portion of the prompt throughout the contest entries. My comment on the story sounds like I was mentioning it as an afterthought though, which is my bad.

I was looking up The Kinks on YouTube for some reason and this was suggested. It's a whole album full of covers of various artists in other artists' style, such as The Beastie Boys' "Fight for your Right" covered in the style of early The Who.

If you really want your mind blown, though...

(Come to think of it, this would be good background music for Derpy's musings as she flies over the Everfree)

2863782 Huh. Nice. Is there a way to embed audio into a story page? (This particular video doesn't play on fimfiction, btw.)

Got any other music-for-chapter suggestions? :)

There are other YouTube postings of that exact track--one accompanies a montage of iceberg photos which, while it may not suit your story, is pretty apposite to the song's title.

EDIT: here, try this for the George Winston piece:

As for other music--I think I've got your end title (and possibly Tale Spin's theme):

(Is it okay if I imagine Tale Spin as a ponified Warren Zevon?

EDITED EDIT:

And this for chapter 5, "Appaloosan Hospitality:"

(Another Zevon song, but the vocalist is Billy Bob Thornton)

I have absolutely no evidence for it, but I still suspect George Herbert based Feyd Rautha on photographs of a very young Warren Zevon because:

"Yeah, I got your gom jabbar right here..."

Holy shit Inquisitor liked something? Wow.

2863945 Give it up. You're going to have to write that Warren Zevon in Equestria story yourself.
