Military history is my favorite subject. I happen to like My Little Pony. Sketching is one of my hobbies. So let's combine all three!
Equestria Daily is hosting a war-themed drawing contest thing, with five picture prompts released during this week. I can't wait to get started!
I will post my pictures here as the week progresses. But for now, here are some drawing's I've already done. Sorry about the picture quality, but I don't have a scanner so I have to use my camera.
Here's a llama soldier, armed with a sling and protected by a bronze helmet and a coat of thickly padded cotton.
And here's a donkey musketeer. The armor was quite fun to design. Note that the neck guard is not fixed to the breastplate, so it is still flexible. The musket is a matchlock design, and the butt has that funny spur because it's designed to be hooked on and braced against a special saddle. The front end of the musket is supported by a bipod that you can't really see.
These two pics are concept sketches for a fanfic I am outlining, tentatively titled Ultima Ratio Regum and featuring a war between ponies and burros. It will be a long story and is still in the planning stages, so before I try something that ambitious I'll continue writing about equine combat in Gratuitous Pony Battles.

So here's two ponies on the field of honor. I tried to make the one in the foreground resemble Andrew Jackson, but I'm not sure if I succeeded or not.

Prompt four is "Draw a pony on a rescue mission."
So here's Boxxy Brown as a medic. I had a lot of fun with this one, but the wings were REALLY HARD to draw. Still not really happy with them.

These drawings look really nice. I generally find military history interesting whenever I learn something new about it, but I've never actively studied it.
Good luck with that contest though!

Glad you like the pics! I can't say there is any prize involved with this thing (I called it a 'contest' for lack of a better word), but just having fun drawing and submitting is its own reward.
