A Retrospective of Pixar (Part 3) · 2:49am Mar 3rd, 2015
To finish up this retrospective of Pixar, I've decided to take a look at some of Pixar's upcoming films and projects. So let's begin!
Inside Out (2015)
Set to release on June 19 of this year, Inside Out shows us a world where our emotions are living entities of sorts within us that help control what we do. The emotions shown in the film are the main five emotions that all of us share: joy, sadness, anger, disgust, and fear. The film will focus on the conflicting emotions within a young girl named Riley Anderson, who is dealing with a move from her home in the Midwest to San Francisco. I'm looking forward to this movie because I really like the concept of making emotions anthropomorphic and showing how they control a person. Granted, the concept has been explored and done before in past cartoons and shorts but I'm interested in seeing Pixar's take on it. And I've really liked the trailers so far, my favorite being the very first. Though, I admit that most of my love for the first trailer comes from the feel-inducing montage at the beginning.
The feels, man. The FEELS. Anyway, I'm overall looking forward to this one.
The Good Dinosaur (2015)
Set to release on November 25 of this year, The Good Dinosaur will show us a world where the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs never hit Earth. The film follows a 70-ft teenage Apatosaurus named Arlo as he sets out on a quest following a traumatic event in his tranquil community and befriends a young human boy named Spot along the way. This sounds like a fun movie. We don't have any trailers yet but a few promotional images have been released.
Not much else to say except that I'll be happy to go see this film when it comes out.
Finding Dory (2016)
Set to release on June 17 of next year, Finding Dory will pick up one year after Finding Nemo and will show Marlin helping Dory reunite with her family off the coast of California. Gil and the rest of the "Tank Gang" are set to return as is Nemo, though it's unknown if Nemo's original voice actor will reprise the role (this seems unlikely as the voice of his VA, who was 9 years old at the time of recording for the first tilm, has most likely deepened over the past twelve years). I'm really looking forward to seeing these characters again and going on another adventure with them. I hope we get to see Marlin and Gil meet. I think it would be interesting to see them work together. Not much else to say except that this is another Pixar film I'm really looking forward to.
Toy Story 4 (2017)
Set to release on June 16 in 2017, not much is known about the plot of Toy Story 4 aside from that it'll pick up where the third film left off and will be a love story. Now, what are my thoughts about there being a fourth film? Personally, I'm all for it. I'll admit that I would have been perfectly content with the series ending with the third film and with us just getting fun shorts here and there afterwards; but, now that it's confirmed, I'm looking forward to having another adventure with these great characters. With this upcoming installment apparently being a love story, I have a feeling, or am least really hoping, that this film will see the return of Bo Peep and be about her and Woody reuniting. The only thing I hope doesn't happen is seeing Andy again. The third film acted as such a perfect and beautiful ending for the toys' time with Andy. If Andy returned, it would just cheapen the emotion of the third film and take away a lot of its impact. From what I've heard, this isn't going to happen. Andy's story with the toys ended in the third film. But I'm still happy to spend some more time with Woody, Buzz, and everyone else!
Other Upcoming Films
Pixar has one unnamed movie set to release on November 22, 2017 and another unnamed movie set to release on June 15, 2018. After that, an unnamed film about Dia de los Muertos is set to be released (possibly in late 2018). After that, The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3 are set to release at some point. As many of you already know, I'm REALLY excited about The Incredibles 2. Cars 3 on the other hand...eh. I'll still go see it with an open mind but Cars 2 has given me a few reservations about the future of that particular series. If anything, I'd much rather see a sequel to Monsters, Inc. (which I REALLY hope comes along someday) than Cars 3. But, whatever. Maybe it'll surprise us.
So, overall, Pixar has had an incredibly wild and crazy past and is shaping up to have quite an interesting future. I am grateful for all the wonderful characters, fantastic stories, and cherished memories they've given us and I eagerly look forward to seeing what they have in store for us! Thank you, Pixar. Now, I think there's only one proper way for me to finish this retrospective.
To infinity...and BEYOND!
The Good Dinosaur. (sigh) Sorry, but there's one thing I simply must do with all films featuring dinosaurs: nitpick every little scientifically inaccurate detail. Let's see, there's not much to go off of, but for one, and this is a big one, Apatosaurus as a genus was long-extinct by the time the Cretaceous Period ended, even before it began; and not to mention that after the 65.5 million years between the point of the K-T impact, whether the collision happened or not, and when humans arrived, no recognizable dinosaur species would still exist in its known form; also not to mention that dinosaurs were already on a species diversity decline and may well have been on their way out even without the asteroid's help. Oh, and another thing, sauropods would not have reached their full giant size by only their adolescent years, they would still have had quite a ways to go.
Phew. Sorry, but blatant anachronism without plot-relevant significance is something I just cannot stand, especially when I know where and when things should be. And I know it's supposed to be cartoonish, but that face just looks ridiculous. Okay, I think I'm done.
Also looking forward to The Incredibles 2.
I heard Rashida Jones (The Office, Parks and Recreation) was one of the writers on Toy Story 4.
Did you ever hear that Pixar had planned a film called Newt that was about the last couple of this species of rare newt that have to procreate in order for their species to survive? It unfortunately never materialized, but there was some concept art out there. They apparently still managed to work references to it into Brave and Toy Story 3.

I remember hearing about Newt but I don't think I ever learned what it was going to be about until now. It looks like the idea of that film was put into the film Rio.

It looks like you have a passion for dinosaurs.
2847567
You have no idea.
2847548 From what I understand the plot being too similar to Rio was one of the reasons they didn't go through with it. Also, they chose to make Cars 2 instead.
