Story rewrite update: Developments · 2:49am Feb 25th, 2015
Hey everyone! I'm so sorry for the lack of activity recently. It may seem like not much has been going on, but I've been working hard on this rewrite of A Trusted Friend. So, I offer a bit of an explanation of my progress. After a writing a few early chapters, then loosing my sense of direction, I've decided to hit the outline again, and now I'm detailing it as thoroughly as I can. So for the past few weeks, I have been pouring as much energy as I can spare into developing a fully fledged story in the form of a detailed outline, chapter by chapter. And I have been engaging closely with my assistant to make sure that the story flows well and works both logically and emotionally. This outline is far more thorough and planned out than any attempt I had planned previously. And as of now, I have reached the last act of the story, and am currently planning the final resolution.
Those of you who had put up with the episodic chapter-by-chapter style of writing of the previous iteration of this story know that I hadn't planned out ahead sufficiently enough, so I ended up adding a lot of extra crap on the fly, which made the story feel incoherent and full of padding, and poor character motivations, which only served to delay getting to the planned plot points. In my original story, I only planned a few key points, so I hadn't taken much thought of what went in between.
Though being back in the outline stage almost two years after I began the story and half a year after deciding to rewrite it may seem a disappointment to many of you, as you are probably hoping that I would be much further along by now (and trust me, I too feel this way), I can assure you that my energy is going into making sure that this story is as well thought-out as I can make it. This time, I will know exactly where I'm going, and every chapter and event will have meaning that will serve a role in the grand scheme of the story's plot. In essence, what happens early will have an impact what happens later, rather than being forgotten about do to lack of planning.
This time, I have a much stronger sense of how the story will flow, which should hopefully make writing a lot easier. This version of the story should be much more engaging, more logical, better flowing, more interesting, and in the end, be the heartfelt emotional experience that I had set out to make.
Thank you all for your support! I hope one day to share the results of this endeavor.
Glad to hear you haven't given up on this story.
Hopefully one day I can pull this out of the Sequelitis trope.
It’s just nice to know it’s not dead. And even nicer to be kept in the loop.
I have a question, though. Are you going to edit the chapters that are already up or simply take them down and put new ones in their place?

For now, I'll leave the old chapters in and note that they are the "old" chapters, so people can still read them if they feel like. The new story will have a completely new chapter sequence, so these aren't "rewritten chapters."
2830003 Awesome, thanks.
I wait eagerly to see where things go in this iteration.
