Marshal Twilight's (Slightly Pretentious) Guide To Writing Clopfiction · 1:46am Feb 20th, 2015
Heya folks! So, this is something that's more-or-less been on my bucket list for a while. I've been around here since late 2011, but only actively posting clopfics for about a year. I've been reading smut a lot longer than that though, so I've had plenty of time to figure out what works and what doesn't, along with getting the "insider's perspective" by writing my own. I've always had pretty good results, and I've learned a lot and made major strides in that amount of time.
Another thing is that we've lost a lot of the old "big names" like darf, TAW, Tittysparkles, Twilightclopple, etc. And I don't know if it's just me, but it often feels as if no one new is really rising up to take their place. I see a lot of bland or uninteresting stories in the featured box. I'd like to help fix that.
That said, I've been working on a rather extensive and comprehensive guide on how to write erotica in general, with a particular focus on clopfiction. It covers a lot of topics, such as how to set the mood, common clichés to avoid, what to include and what to not include, that sort of thing. There's a lot, and anyone interested in writing clopfiction or any kind of erotica would probably find it worth reading.
Anyway, after consulting with the Dark Forces, I have determined that the link should be fine to post here, so have at it!
Oh, and be sure to give Bad_Seed_72 a thanks! She helped out a lot with touching it up and wrote the section on F/F herself. Lesbians are awesome consultants.
If any of you have any questions about anything mentioned there, or anything that wasn't covered, then feel free to send me a message or something. I'm always happy to help (as long as it doesn't involve editing a story, because I despise editing.)
I... honestly don't have time to read all of that right now.
I'll bookmark it, though.
Hmmm, interesting, I'll have to check that out.
Though I am pretty sure Tittysparkles is still active.

She won't be for awhile, she lost her home. She's in a homeless and most likely sold her laptop for money, like she said in her final blog post.

Oh jeez..
I didn't know, I don't actually follow her...
Okay not time to read the whole thing, but did skim through it and.... sweet Celestia that is impressive. And everything i saw, pretty spot on. Just, so perfect and all really great advice, and why you really are one of the best damn clop writers on the site.
Unfortunately, nothing I didn't already know but you (and Bad) deserve great praise for going to the effort of making this.
It certainly feels like you're doing a good job of it. Especially with regards "providing the feature box with quality clop".
This was certainly helpful before I take a crack at writing clopfiction.
Thanks for writing this! I might write my first clopfic soon, and this will be super helpful.
Also, can I just take a moment to point out that you compiled a massive document solely to help other people with their writing? That's incredibly admirable. Bravo!

I wouldn't call it perfect. There's honestly a lot more to it than even what's there, and even then I feel like some personal bias slipped in here and there. Ah well, what can ya do?

Oh stop it you. I'm not surprised you didn't get much out of it though, you're definitely one of the more seasoned clop writers around.

Here's hoping!

Well, when you put it that way... Ahem, well, anyways, I do hope it's useful to you! Part of the reason why I wanted to do it is because I would sometimes see posts in group forums by people who were struggling with things. I've also heard about more than one person who gave up because they couldn't just make things "click". I'm really hoping this will help some talented people get off the ground in the near future.
2813265 Okay, maybe a bit over done with the praise. But still, it's amazing how many people just can't realize this stuff that should be common sense, or just obvious. And a guide like this, sure it's not perfect, and it isn't the be all and end all of how to write clop, but it is a really impressive work, and a great starting point for anyone that wants to give it a try.
I would be rising up to take their place, but school makes me super busy and saps away every iota of creative thought I have in my brain.
honestly, darf and tittysparkles need to just come back
Wait, Tittysparkles left tho too? I thought he posted something and was active!
Well, all right. This is extremely useful. While most of it should be/is common knowledge, it's pretty easy to forget about some details, and it's handy to have a reference guide to look at every now and then.
Good grief, that came out sounding clinical.
Anyway, there are some things in here that I'll keep in mind when I write my next thing.
I disagree slightly about which terms are "childish" and which are "erotic". Mostly, I can't stand the term "pussy". "Cunny" better, but only when prefixed with the word "mare". Somehow "her sweet mare cunny" is way less stupid than "it went into her cunny". I never seem to come down one way or the other on the term "cock". Maybe it's from reading too much Jerkcity.
