Okay, I decided to do a somewhat serious and detailed interpretation of Friendship Games. Because reasons.
No, actually I like those analysers and theorizers on YouTube.

The movie starts out at Crystal Prep, where human Twilight is attending school. She isn't wearing her lab coat, however; that's something she wears during private experiments. She sits alone and puzzles over the strange events that have been happening lately. Suddenly, five particular girls walk by Twilight. These girls, some of the most popular members of the school's team, the Shadowbolts, are chatting eagerly about the upcoming Friendship Games as Canterlot High. An "aha!" expression appears on Twilight's face, and she runs over to join the girls.
*cue intro song and logo*
In the next scene, we see two girls racing along side each other on motorcycles. These two turn out to be none other than Sunset Shimmer and Rainbow Dash! The girls finish their race and join their other friends. Fluttershy and Applejack are practicing archery, while Rarity and Pinkie Pie are rollerskating.
Sunset pulls out her journal and writes to Pony Twilight. She explains how Canterlot High has never one the Friendship Games before, and that this year they're hoping to win! The others add that the school is more united thanks to the Battle of the Bands.
The girls then head to the soccer field, where Celestia and Luna have gathered the students. They announce that the Shadowbolts have arrived, and that it'll be a great honor and good luck yada yada.
Enter the Shadowbolts: rollerskaters Lemon Zest and Sunny Flare, motorcyclists Indigo Zap and Sugarcoat, and archers Sour Sweet and... Twilight Sparkle?! Everyone is confused to see Twilight with the Shadowbolts, except Pinkie, who has her physic knowledge and her "just a hunch" theory from the first movie. She and the other members of the Mane 6 run to greet Twilight, but it quickly becomes apparent she's not their Twilight. Aided by Pinkie, Sunset is quick to realize this is Human Twilight. Human Twilight takes not of everything they say and do, careful not to let them in on her plans.
Sunset then sends a letter to Pony Twilight, explaining the situation. Pony Twilight responds saying she can't come in case there's a time-space paradox caused by the two meeting, but she's confident in Sunset's abilities.
And this is where I'm not sure what happens next. Sports, but I don't know the details.
At the end, Human Twilight is befriended by the Mane Six and changes her name to Midnight Sparkle so that there's no confusion. (Midnight Sparkle is Canon, actually.)
And that's my theory!

According to the FIM wiki, the names of the Shadowbolts from episode 2 are Nightshade, and I can't remember the others. But it was clear that the others were stallions.

Good theory! And I was confused about the Midnight Sparkle part when I read the EQ Daily article, but now it makes sense

Nice! Not sure about the whole 'Midnight Sparkle' thing, but I like your speculations.
I don't know why, but I think that the song 'No One Knows' by Queens of the Stone Age would be perfect for the opening theme.

2925469 Well, one part involves where Human Twilight's teammates were cheating during the games, and she was super angry when she found out, claiming that this cheating had soiled the good name of Crystal Prep. And when she's in Midnight Sparkle mode, she's exacting revenge on her cheating team but Flash Sentry comes and calms her down, saying that he knows what it's like to feel used and that two wrongs never make a right. This turns her back to normal and she leaves Crystal Prep to enroll in CHS.
