Hands up if you remember the More Most Dangerous Contest contest that ran about a month ago. None of you? Oh.
Well it got over 90 entries in the end - 19 of which were dedicated to My Little Dashie - and Obs and his cronies judges have whittled those down to fifteen lucky finalists.
And oh my days - Cloud Trails is one of them.
This gives me extremely puzzled feelings, for two main reasons. Firstly, I've apparently beaten many infamous site authors who actually know what they're doing: PresentPerfect, RainbowBob, M1Garand8, Titanium Dragon, among others. Which leaves me now battling it out with some of the biggest hitters around. Aquaman. Bad Horse. Carabas. Pascoite, etc for a prize-winning place.
The second is that I didn't like Cloud Trails when I re-read the finished piece. The obvious under-writing. The lack of character distinction. The fact you can clearly tell it was written in a single day and needs a ton more re-writes. This does happen with many of my stories, but none prickled me more after the fact than this one.
How does such a thing as this happen? How does a one-hit-wonder author like myself get away with such a thing? Hell if I know. For now...there is only the matter of where it will place in the finals. Almost certainly 15th. There's no way it could land higher....could it?
