So, I took a couple of weeks of leave to clear my head, the occasional poke of the head back in to see if the sky had fallen notwithstanding, and after a great degree of deliberation, I finally decided that this site, as frustrating as it can get when I take it too seriously, is still just too good of a practice space with too many people I value as colleagues and friends to leave permanently.
That said, there are some changes in store.
First, streamlining stories. Right now, I want you to forget everything about everything I've told you concerning future stories, release dates, and so on. This doesn't mean things that I have previewed or announced will vanish into the ether never to be seen again, but I do want to start things off with a clean slate and no expectations.
Second, even though I'm returning, I don't plan to spend a boat load of time on here. Like I said before, I've fallen out of love with the MLP show and the bulk of the fandom. Will I still write horse words? Yes, because I consider it good practice and a way to test some ideas I have for non-pony fiction. However, I'm not going to be around nearly as often as I used to be. I'm not going to lie, guys. While I have missed a lot of you, life without fimfiction has improved at least 20%. I'm doing immensely better at academics, I'm getting fitter thanks to a new exercise regiment, and I have had enough free time to make substantial progress on non-horse stories IRL. Things have been great, and I am truly happy and at peace. As such, I'm going to treat this site as a luxury, not an everyday indulgence. There are going to be days- or even weeks- you don't here from me, and not that I was known for being prolific before, but I'm going to work at a pace that reflects my habits.
Thirdly, the biggest change, I am no longer doing official reviews. They just take way too long to research, write, and publish and are one of the biggest time traps I run into on this site. This includes reviews I personally make (though I may make an exception every now and again for a true gem) and reviews on the group that got me most of my cred: Rage Reviews. I'll still probably leave constructive mini reviews in comments every now and then, but that's about it.
Lastly, even though I'm minimizing my time on Fimfiction, I'm actually expanding my operation as an independent writer of original fiction. Given this is my dream career, I'm going to be working harder soon to network and get my name out there, including managing a blog and youtube channel that I hope to launch in the not too distant future.
