When DC rebooted its continuity back in 2011, they made their fair share of mistakes. One of them was shortening the Modern Age of Superheroes down to a mere five years old and erasing vast amounts of history from before that era, erasing countless beloved characters, storylines, relationships, and more, and taking what remained and squeezing it into a ridiculous short amount of development time. I've thusly concocted my own personal timeline for the DCU that will attempt to try and fit as much of their content into it as possible. It's probably the most comprehensive timeline of the DCU I've personally seen outside of Greg Weisman's, and I'm half-convinced he's a mad genius.

You know.... This kind of thought and effort put into something like a time line.... Done by a FAN no less.... Proves DC was not even TRYING with the New 52.... At all. I mean that was obvious before, but.... Really THIS proves it. This should have been the "Universe Bible" as it were. A STRICT planned out and detailed account of what happened and what WILL happen for at least a couple of years into the reboot.
2734883 No bloody kidding. Seriously, they could've paid an intern to do this and in a week they'd have a document that any writer could refer to avoid continuity errors like, I don't know, different writers not agreeing as to the very existence of the Teen Titans.
And also, while I admit that my versions of the characters would definetly be on the old side (Batman, for example, would be 50 by 2015), it just goes to show just how many fan-favorite stories DC is ignoring. I mean, when Zero Hour was made in 1994, they thought that the Modern Heroic Age was 10 years old. There's no way DC can justify saying that it was only five years old 17 years later.
I also found today that fimfiction's editing window is wider than its viewing window, so I had to go back and forth about a half dozen times to get the formatting right.
2734929 Exactly, Marvel's history is full of retcons and so on, but they generally keep the idea that the Fantastic Four first appeared about 14-15 years ago, with minor heroes having shown up here and there before then like the Blue Marvel in the 60's, but nothing major. In short, aside from moving the dates up a couple of times in the 90's, the modern era of Marvel began to happen ABOUT 2000 now.
I mean yeah it's still vague on a lot of things, but overall it's cohesive to say the least. That being said if DC was going to copy ANYTHING from Marvel they should have copied their overall time limit. 14-15 is PERFECT for most of the original stories take place AND keep them fairly young if that was the main intention.

Also, I probably would have included some real world 'anchor dates' if you will, to help provide a broader historical context.

2735416 Yeah, and Greg Weisman used a similar timeline for when the Heroic Age of Young Justice started. 2000 seems like a pretty good benchmark these days. I just stretched mine out more because if it started in 1995 or later, I would've had to fit the entirety of the New 52 into one year. And that scares me.
And Marvel has generally done a very good job in keeping that timeline coherent, ignoring questions like "How is the Thing a WWII veteran" or "Why did Tony Stark fight Soviets?"
2735606 Yeah, with a 10 year old kid who was born after his career started, it was difficult to try and keep Bruce young, and that affected everything else.
And those two events took place in 2004 and 2006 respectively. Obviously, that's not when those comics were published, but I had to squash and stretch a lot of things if I didn't want, say, the Flash to be 80 years old.
Yeah, I kinda debated whether to do that or not. The issue would be determining which events to include, as well as trying to stop this thing from bloating too much.
