I'm going to be honest here...

Longer-term followers of this series will certainly have noticed by now that my posting frequency has significantly declined (especially over the last year or so) as compared to before. I want to make it clear that this is not because I have lost interest in continuing the Canterlot Chronicles series.

Character Profiles - Minor Allies and Neutrals · 9:17pm Jan 13th, 2015

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Notes:
* This profile will cover all minor characters that are considered "good" or neutral in the storyline of the Canterlot Chronicles.
* For the purposes of definition, a "major" character is one that appears in more than three stories. All others are considered "minors" unless they appear in more than two stories, in which case they will be moved to the appropriate "major" character entry.
* Major canon characters (including OC Stand Ins) will be found in the Major Canons entry. Pure OCs that are major characters will be found in the Major OCs entry.
* References to canon material will be given in bold. References within the stories themselves will be in italics.
* Jump to following subsections by using the find function in your browser (typically by hitting Ctrl+F) and typing in the letter code after the subsection entry:
1. Royal Guard Members (RGM)
2. Celebrities (VIP)
3. Apple Family Members (APP)
4. Citizens of Ponyville (COP)
5. Other Royal Service (ORS)
6. Historical and Legendary Figures (HLF)

=======================================

Royal Guard Members (RGM) - All of the following are members of the Canterlot Royal Guard. These entries are sorted by rank, and then by first appearance.

Captain Ursus - Unicorn stallion, former Captain of the Northern Division of the E.U.P. Guard. Eight years before Luna's return, he and his command were trapped in their headquarters on the northern frontier of Equestria by a massive snowstorm and avalanche. Fidelitas, then a Guard Upper Class, was part of his command and was given a field promotion to Lieutenant after Ursus was informed he could cut an escape route for all the trapped ponies. All escaped safely except for Ursus, who was still in the entombed HQ building when it collapsed. Gallantly, and over the objections of the Lieutenant Captain, Fidelitas lead a team back into the rubble which successfully rescued Ursus. He survived the collapse but the injuries he sustained forced him into early retirement. (The Luna Shift)

Captain Castile - Unicorn stallion and Gibraltar's predecessor as Captain of the Guard in Canterlot, now retired from Guard service. He features prominently in Gibraltar's story in In Praise of Twilight. He appears in the present-day in Phoenix Down as part of the board of inquiry regarding an anti-pegasus riot.
Mentioned in Zero Point by Gibraltar after Castile recommended Gibraltar join him in retirement in Baltimare.

Captain Scopum - As a Lieutenant Captain, Scopum once served as the second-in-command to Captain Ursus in the Northern Division Headquarters and was trapped with him after an avalanche buried the HQ complex. After the evacuation had been completed and the complex collapsed with Ursus still inside, he tried to prevent Fidelitas from going back to try to find the Captain, but Fidelitas pointing out the principle of "no pony left behind" convinces him to agree to the effort. Scopum was promoted to Northern Division Captain after the forced retirement of Captain Ursus. (The Luna Shift)
Fidelitas, now a Lieutenant Captain in Canterlot, recommended Scopum to serve as the third member of the board of inquiry regarding an anti-pegasus riot. (Phoenix Down)

Quartermaster Tallymark - Officer roughly equal in authority to a Lieutenant Captain, responsible for the inventory and accounting of all equipment and items in Canterlot. All item requests, even with the Princesses involved, had to go through him. He was first mentioned, though not named, in The Luna Shift, where Princess Luna had to deal with his procedures to get a coffeemaker installed in her royal suite. He was subsequently named in Excelsior, where he was killed by an Agent of Chaos to cover up their plans. After his death, his horn was cut off and presumably delivered to Agent Snake.
His cut-off horn was later discovered mounted on a labeled rock bust in Snake's "trophy gallery" during Captain Gibraltar's survey of the defeated Agents of Chaos secret HQ, and presumably recovered afterward. (Consequences)

Acting Canterlot Castle Quartermaster - This unicorn stallion was the semi-official successor to the assassinated Tallymark, having assumed the position sometime after the events of Excelsior. Like his predecessor, he was killed by the Agents of Chaos, this time by one of Agent Sadness' squad during "Operation Whirlwind". His body was subsequently stripped in order for Sadness' squad to gain access to the Artifact Vault. (Rainboom Revolution)

Lieutenant Skyver - Night shift pegasus officer. Guard Upper Class Buck Withers was assigned to his command after being transferred to Canterlot as established in Buck Nothing, although Skyver himself doesn't appear until Pocketful of Posies where he helped Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor, his CO, thwart an assassination plot aimed at killing Buck Withers. After berating the two pegasi who's sleepiness contributed to the close call with Buck, he was ordered by Shining Armor to fetch replacement guards from other patrol squads. Later, he accepted Captain Gibraltar's request to serve as a pallbearer in the funeral of Buck's mother Lilly Withers.
His squad found and later extracted from a dumpster the body of the betrayed and murdered Guard Upper Class Thornwing on Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor's orders. (High Fashion High Noon)
He was later seen as one of the night shift Lieutenants at the briefing regarding the events of the Best Young Flyers competition where Rainbow Dash performed her second sonic rainboom. He was also caught up in the subsequent "Operation Whirlwind", losing several unicorns under his command to Agent Cruelty's raid as a prelude to the main rebel attack. Despite this, he lead one of the loyalist counterattacks against the main rebel attack itself and was left in operational authority by Captain of the Guard Gibraltar after its defeat, also tasked with sending a squad to find the main rebel rally point. This squad joined up with one lead by Lieutenant Vesper and was part of the main counterattack against the rebels, while Skyver himself assisted in stopping Agent Snake inside Canterlot Castle. (Rainboom Revolution)

Lieutenant Scriptor - Unicorn stallion that serves as secretary to Lieutenant Captain Fidelitas. He was present at the meeting outlining "Operation Integration". (Zecora)
Later he was temporarily assigned to serve as defense secretary of Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor during the board of inquiry involving an anti-pegasus riot, but never fulfilled that duty due to the "prosecutor" abdicating his duties. (Phoenix Down)

Lieutenant Xergraphos - Unicorn stallion that has a special talent of "recording" and "playing back" records of certain events. He is the probable source of the ability Twilight Sparkle uses in The Mane Attraction. He participated in the board of inquiry following the parasprite infestation of Ponyville. (The Parasprite Project)
He also participated in the night shift briefing of the Best Young Flyers event where Rainbow Dash performed her second sonic rainboom, also "recording" Spitfire's raging against Shining Armor as later blackmail material on orders of the Agent Snake. This "recording" was apparently done on the promise Agent Snake would spare his life later, but Snake went back on that promise and Xergraphos became the first unicorn victim of Operation Whirlwind, being beheaded by their guillotine-like device at their opera house rally point. (Rainboom Revolution)
A rock bust labeled with his name was found in Snake's "trophy gallery" during Captain Gibraltar's survey of the defeated Agents of Chaos secret HQ, presumably meant to display his cut-off horn on had Snake had a chance to mount it. (Consequences)

Lieutenant Vigil - Pegasus stallion that is part of the afternoon shift under Lieutenant Captain Fidelitas. He commanded one of the "catch squads" during the raid on EIA headquarters. (High Fashion High Noon)
Vigil lead a small search team investigating the Final Act Retirement Community in the aftermath of Operation Whirlwind, encountering the horrors of the fortification and "harvest" by its manager - former Agent of Chaos leader "Lord Zedd" - in the search. (Consequences)
He was one of the two Lieutenants who commanded a squad as part of Operation Just Cause. During a scouting operation around the rebel-held "Fort Beta", he and his squad were ambushed by a then-unidentified enemy force. Vigil, along with all but two of his squad members, was killed by the attackers, which were later speculated to be a squad of Changeling drones cooperating with the Agents of Chaos rebels to cover the latter's retreat from Fort Beta. (A Just Cause)

Lieutenant Vanguard - Unicorn stallion that is part of the afternoon shift under Lieutenant Captain Fidelitas. He was the second-in-command to Fidelitas during the raid on EIA headquarters. (High Fashion High Noon)
He was one of the two Lieutenants who commanded a squad as part of Operation Just Cause. (A Just Cause)

Lieutenant Blasto - Unicorn stallion that somewhat resembles Big Macintosh. He was a Demolitions Expert, normally posted to the Southern Division of the E.U.P. Guard but brought into Canterlot in the wake of Operation Whirlwind to check for hidden explosive. While there, he heard of the orphaned foals of Agents P1 and P2, and he and his mate travelled to Ponyville along with Lieutenant Crispin to adopt them. There, he met Twilight Sparkle, explaining the adoptions were to replace his missing filly, Fizzlepop Berrytwist. Twilight herself would later meet the now grown-up Fizzlepop under the alias "Tempest Shadow", although it is not known if either the father or filly knows the other is still alive. (My Little Pony: The Movie, Consequences)

Guard Upper Class Thornwing - Pegasus stallion, colt of Posey and claimed biological older brother of Fluttershy (the parents in Flutter Brutter being an aunt and uncle that adopted her shortly after she was foaled, along with a forged birth certificate to throw off any attempts at finding out the truth). He also was formerly Agent 20 of the Agents of Chaos, having joined to protect his mother who (supposedly) had been abandoned by his biological father after Fluttershy's foaling. Eventually, Posey somehow became a captive of the Agents of Chaos, and Thornwing ultimately hoped to rescue her and (re)unite her with Fluttershy. When Posey died, Thornwing was kept unaware of this for some time, and defected when he eventually did find out. This defection lead directly to his assassination, apparently by "Mr. Hoofer". It is worth noting that Thornwing's claims have not been substantiated or disproven conclusively, and the policy seems to be "believe what you want to believe about his claims". (High Fashion High Noon)

Guard Upper Class Spearhead - Pegasus stallion and old friend of Shining Armor who served some time in the Canterlot Royal Guard before resigning to curate an art gallery. He was under the command of Lieutenant Aldebaran on the night "Operation Whirlwind" was executed and temporarily made a prisoner of the rebels until released by Princess Luna. He also participated in stopping Agent Snake inside the castle's throne room. (Rarity Investigates, A Flurry of Emotions, Rainboom Revolution)
Later, he became a part of Operation Just Cause, assigned to Lieutenant Vanguard's squad under the command of Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor. (A Just Cause)

Guard Upper Class Lyacon - Unicorn stallion, and apparently seniormost member of Lieutenant Troilus' squadron in the morning shift. He served as the main assistant in Troilus' conspiracy to hold hostage the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" and ultimately shared Troilus' punishment of being assigned to bathroom detail after the effort was defeated. (The Crusaders, Mission to Appleloosa)
By the time of Phoenix Down, he had followed Troilus into going completely maverick, serving as Troilus' main assistant in carrying out the anti-pegasi plans.
Lyacon joined Troilus on the anti-pegasus campaign as the second-in-command during the night of the Grand Galloping Gala. Like his commander, he went missing and unaccounted for during the attack on "Fort Beta", leaving Guard Lower Class Petronius to retreat with what survivors he could gather after the attack failed. Finally, it was revealed that Lyacon, like his superior, had been "replaced" by a Changeling Agent after being captured (and presumably killed) by the Agent of Chaos rebels when sent to hunt for them as stated in Consequences. This would also explain the previously seen behavior in Lyacon. (A Just Cause)

Guard Upper Class Crusoe "Coconut" Palms - Brown coated earth pony who lives in Ponyville, with a standing assignment manning one of the ERS "waypoints" between Ponyville and Canterlot. He is also a member of Ponyville's choir. (Rarity and the Curious Case of Charity, Zero Point)
As an earth pony member of the E.U.P. Guard, Crusoe had been subject to unyielding mockery and mistreatment by Lieutenant Captain Aten and his allies, repeatedly blocking recommendations to give him a Lieutenant's commission and "stuffing" him in the undesirable ERS service. He temporarily "escaped" to the afternoon shift in Canterlot as a result of Princess Luna's return, but when the ERS was reestablished Crusoe was put back there again. (Zero Point)
Apparently at some point during his temporary "escape", he was assigned as part of Lieutenant Meadow Song's contingent tasked with sorting out trouble in Appleloosa even though he's not mentioned in Mission to Appleloosa. (Over A Barrel)
The dramatic fall of Aten from his influential position gave new hope that Crusoe would be finally be commissioned once Shining Armor was formally made Captain of the Guard, a hope Lieutenant Crispin expressed when he met Crusoe on-duty while en route to Ponyville. (Zero Point).

Guard Upper Class Trafalgar - Unicorn stallion, the older of the two colts of Captain Gibraltar. He was mentioned unnamed in Games We Play as being in field service, but was later seen in Zero Point as permanently manning one of the ERS checkpoints between Canterlot and Ponyville. Like Crusoe Palms, he had been a victim of the internal political struggle between Shining Armor and Aten, and he was also involved in conversation with Lieutenant Crispin about Shining's promotion to replace Gibraltar being a factor that could change his fate.

Guard Upper Class Vitorio - Unicorn stallion, the younger of the two colts of Captain Gibraltar (by about a year). He was mentioned unnamed in Games We Play as being in field service, and later seen in Zero Point assisting his father in moving out of the Captain's suite before relieving his older brother at one of the ERS checkpoints between Canterlot and Ponyville. He had also been a victim of the internal political struggle between Shining Armor and Aten, and like his brother hoped Shining Armor's promotion would give a chance to continue advancing his stalled Guard career.

Guard Lower Class (Locked) Ventas - Unicorn stallion with a cream-colored coat. Formerly Lieutenant Ventas of the morning shift and one of Lieutenant Captain Aten's most consistent supporters through the rise in ranks, as well as Agent 12 in the Agents of Chaos.
He ended up trapped in membership of the Agents of Chaos and in Aten's support thanks to the blackmail of the Agents of Chaos, whereupon a one-night fling between him and Star Dancer was exploited to bend both of those involved to their will, in the process causing Star Dancer's mate to be murdered and forcing Java Jive (the possible offspring of the fling) to be raised separately by Ventas, concealing her true identity in the process. When Star Dancer and Ventas agreed to defy the Agents of Chaos in order to get help for Moon Dancer outside of their connections, Ventas was arrested and held prisoner by Agent Snake. He was then forced, at spearpoint and with Java Jive's life in mortal danger, to operate the machine that cut Star Dancer's horn off.
Ventas and Java Jive were released after the operation was complete, with Ventas promptly defecting to the loyal Guard membership - the first from Aten's inner circle to do so. He was held by the loyal Guard officers until Captain Gibraltar stripped him of rank and commission before turning him over to Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor, leaving Ventas' ultimate fate for the Lieutenant Captain to decide. Shining Armor conducted an interview in which Ventas explained the events leading up to that point, implicating Aten as an Agent of Chaos in his testimony. As Ventas was unable to be brought to court-martial, Shining Armor dictated a set of terms for continued membership in the Royal Guard, which Ventas accepted. These terms include being "locked" (ineligible for promotion or transfer) as a Guard Lower Class in the Canterlot night shift Shining Armor commanded. (Broken Fences)
Ventas reappears in Rainboom Revolution, captured as part of Agent Cruelty's raid and subsequently executed during the following rebel attack. It is currently unknown the effects this had on his "family".

Celebrities (VIP) - This category contains all ponies considered important or notable by society in general. The Wonderbolts, due to the complexity of their situation, are listed last with the entry subdivided for each member of that team after the general listing.

Terry Broadshank - Retired professional polo player that Buck Withers admired in his younger years. As team captain, he lead the Steelhooves to four Equestrian Professional Polo Championships. It was at a Lifetime Achievement Award dinner given in his honor that the Agents of Chaos planned a defamation campaign against Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor that was thwarted when Buck Withers actively stood against the campaign with Terry's public support (the first to applaud his stand against the Agents of Chaos), causing it to fail. (Buck Nothing)

Photo Finish - Earth pony mare and a very famous fashion photographer. She was one of the VIPs that witnessed the botched presentation of Princess Luna. (Green Isn't Your Color, The Luna Shift)

Sapphire Shores - Earth pony mare and Equestrian popstar. She was one of the VIPs that witnessed the botched presentation of Princess Luna. (A Dog and Pony Show, The Luna Shift)
It appears Sapphire is the "special somepony" of Hoity Toity as the latter mentions her in High Fashion High Noon and often is seen with her as well. (Sweet and Elite, Equestria Games)

Hoity Toity - Earth pony stallion and major player in the fashion world of Canterlot. After the events of Suited for Success, he invited Rarity to exhibit her work in his boutique in Canterlot. Sadly, this exhibition was interrupted by an attack of the Agents of Chaos, and only the actions of Royal Guard members prevented total catastrophe. (High Fashion High Noon)

Daring Do - Adventurous and tomb-raiding pegasus mare that stars in the book series of the same name, later revealed to be an alter-ego of the book series author A.K. Yearling. (Read It And Weep, Daring Don't) Mentioned in Circle of the Moon by Twilight Sparkle.

"Countess" Coloratura (Rara) - Earth pony mare, famous pop star and fillyhood friend of Applejack. She was one of the "auxiliary" targets of Agent Deceit's raid on the Alicorn's Star hotel and helped defend Mrs. Spoiled Rich in the attack, although took a nasty tumble down the hotel's main staircase in the process. (The Mane Attraction, Rainboom Revolution)

Svengallop - Earth pony stallion. At the time of Rainboom Revolution, he was "Countess" Coloratura's manager and was caught up in the attack on the Alicorn's Star hotel with her as a result. Later he resigned from that position after it was revealed he was exploiting Coloratura for personal gain. (The Mane Attraction)

Chef Ramspeaks - Earth pony stallion, owner and head chef of "Kitchen of Tartarus" restaurant in Canterlot. Famous due to both his fiery temper and tendency to literally ram underperforming staff out of his business while wearing a set of ram's horns. Guard Upper Class Lyacon assured Rarity, Applejack and Rainbow Dash that he was full blooded earth pony despite the antics, which were extensively covered in tabloids. That group visited "Kitchen of Tartarus" for an early lunch as part of Lyacon's stalling tactics in executing Lieutenant Troilus' conspiracy, and subsequently saw Ramspeaks in action. (The Crusaders)

Minor Wonderbolts:
*Wind Rider Retired Wonderbolt who held several records and was held in high esteem at the time of The Parasprite Project. Later he would be disgraced for framing Rainbow Dash for a crime to preserve a record he held. (Rarity Investigates!) He also was one of the heavily-drugged "witnesses" spared from Lord Zedd's "harvest" at the Final Act Retirement Community, as seen in Consequences.
*Stormy Flare Captain Spitfire's mother and former Wonderbolt who helped mentor her daughter as she rose through the Wonderbolt ranks. Mentioned in The Parasprite Project and later appears in Rarity Investigates!. She also was one of the heavily-drugged "witnesses" spared from Lord Zedd's "harvest" at the Final Act Retirement Community, as seen in Consequences.
*General Firefly Historical founder and namer of the Wonderbolts mentioned in both Testing Testing 1,2,3 and The Parasprite Project.
*Commander Easyglider Historical Wonderbolt choreographer mentioned in both Testing Testing 1,2,3 and The Parasprite Project.

=======================

Apple Family Members (APP) - All the following are members of the Apple Family, a large clan of earth ponies that run a number of successful farms and business across Equestria. Guard member Meadow Song, who married into this clan, and Applejack herself can be found in the Major Canons page.

Granny Smith - Earth pony matriarch of the Apple clan. Her family founded both Ponyville and a thriving series of apple farming businesses. Applejack is one of her many grandfoals. She was mentioned by Captain of the Guard Gibraltar to Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor in the context of how long since Princess Celestia last performed a public execution. (Friendship is Magic, Family Appreciation Day, Games We Play, Mission to Appleloosa)
Granny Smith was actually first seen in Zecora, where it was learned she had been inspired by Spike's "Appletini" nickname to make a new apple-based product, much to the irritation of Applejack and amusement of Applejack's siblings.
Mentioned in Zero Point by Applejack when talking about the family history and Granny Smith's vital part of it, as well as in the aftermath of the incident seen in Lesson Zero. (Family Appreciation Day)

Big Macintosh - Earth pony stallion and Applejack's older brother. Nicknamed "Big Mac", he was mentioned to Princess Luna by Meadow Song as Applejack's older brother. Later, we saw him help repulse an Agent of Chaos intruder in Sweet Apple Acres by performing a variant of what was later dubbed "the alicorn toss", although he did not invent that maneuver himself. (Games We Play, Zecora)
Big Macintosh was seen as one of the founding members of the Ponyville Oubliettes and Ogres club started by Twilight Sparkle. At that meeting, he was tasked with delivering the invitation of Princess Celestia to the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" after it arrived at the meeting via Spike's message-receiving abilities. (The Crusader)
Mentioned in Zero Point due to picking up the "Smartypants" toy in the aftermath of the incident seen in Lesson Zero.

Apple Bloom - Earth pony filly, younger sister of both Applejack and Big Macintosh. Although she was a witness of "Nightmare Moon's" arrival, Princess Luna did not know of her until told by Meadow Song in conversation. (Games We Play)
The triumph seen in Bridle Gossip in gaining Zecora's trust caused worry in her older sister of constant proud bragging of her being right in that case, fears which mostly proved to be unfounded. (Zecora)
As one of the "Cutie Mark Crusaders", she was invited by Princess Celestia to perform a reprise of the talent show act seen in The Show Stoppers and was caught up in Lieutenant Troilus' conspiracy as a result. (The Crusaders)
Apple Bloom was one of the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" that unintentionally helped release Discord from his stone prison during a tour of the Canterlot Castle statue garden. (The Return of Harmony, The Day of Discord)
Mentioned in Zero Point by Applejack, who warns Twilight Sparkle to warn her if Apple Bloom ever shows an appreciation for any kind of fruit other than apples.

Goldie Delicious - A cousin of Granny Smith and founder of a branch line within the Apple clan. Lieutenant Crispin, a grandfoal of hers, is a member of this branch line. Some similarities between her and Pinkie Pie give credence to the theory that Pinkie's family is a distant extension of the Apple clan. (Pinkie Apple Pie, Operation Shield)

Braeburn - Older cousin of Applejack and her siblings who helped establish the settlement of Appleloosa and was the main champion, alongside Sheriff Silverstar, of their cause against the buffalo tribe. (Over a Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)

Apple Fritter - An older cousin of Applejack and her siblings, primarily known for her baking talent and giving away products of said talent. Meadow Song married her to affirm the commitment of his family to the Apple clan. It is established in Mission to Applelossa that Apple Fritter travelling to share her recipes with the Appleloosans was the ultimate driving force for the events of both that story and Over a Barrel, having given Applejack the idea to gift the tree "Bloomberg" to Appleloosa in the first place. She thus unwittingly became caught up in the conflict between the Appleloosan settlers and the buffalo tribe, dragging both the Element Bearers and the Ponyville Royal Guard contingent commanded by Meadow Song into the situation as a result. (Friendship is Magic, Over a Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)
Once the prospect of a battle between the Appleloosans and buffalo tribe had been confirmed, she hid in Appleloosa's Salt Block saloon, greatly distressed by the entire situation around her and having to be comforted by Meadow Song. Nevertheless, she helped the Appleloosans and the Royal Guard squad lead by her husband in the battle, and ultimately also was the reason for the salvation of the town - her baking talent making the pies tasty enough for Chief Thunderhooves of the buffalo tribe to consider a settlement between him and the Appleloosans. (Over a Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)

=======================

Citizens of Ponyville (COP) - All of the following are residents of the town of Ponyville and frequently interact with the canon show's main cast. In these stories, they usually serve a secondary role.

Sprinkle Medley - Pegasus mare, part of the Equestrian weather service. She attempted to recruit Rainbow Dash into this service, and in the process learned her cutie mark story. She subsequently passed this information on to Princess Celestia and was awarded the position of "Ministry Liaison to Ponyville". She accidentally learned of "Operation Love Lost" and subsequently was caught up in the conspiracy of the Agents of Chaos, being captured and held prisoner for over a day to prevent her from telling of it to anypony else. When the operation failed, Lieutenant Stratocumulus rescued her from imminent incineration in the Weather Ministry offices, saving her life and allowing her to help expose the Agents of Chaos. (A New Mission, Cadance)

Cheerilee - Earth pony mare, teacher at Ponyville Schoolhouse. Formerly a member of Canterlot Academy, she was the valedictorian of her class and moved to Ponyville after graduating. Caramel mentioned her in conversation with Princess Luna. (Call of the Cutie, IDW Comics #12, Games We Play)
She was mentioned a second time in conversation between Pinkie Pie and Lieutenant Crispin. (Zecora)
Cheerilee was next seen as the final link in the chain that allowed Princess Celestia's invitation of the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" to reprise their talent show performance much quicker than the conventional post would've allowed. (The Crusaders)
Her school group had to be hastily evacuated from Canterlot Castle after the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" in the group unintentionally released the draconequus Discord from his stone prison. (The Return of Harmony, The Day of Discord)

Gizmo "Gyro" Poindexter - A nerdy earth pony stallion who was a friend of Shining Armor at Canterlot Academy. After graduating from Academy, he moved to Ponyville and went into the trading business, having a trading stall in Ponyville's main square. He was mentioned by his former high school buddies wishing he was around in the Royal Guard Oubliettes and Ogres club, to which Shining Armor explains that he got a letter from him a few weeks after Twilight Sparkle's assignment that allowed him to reconnect with the former. Gizmo is a frequent patron of the Golden Oaks library Twilight lives in, and has tried to start his own club in Ponyville to no avail. (Putting Your Hoof Down, IDW Comics #11-12, Operation Shield)
In The Crusaders, he was seen as a founding member of Twilight Sparkle's Oubliettes and Ogres club in Ponyville, presumably as a result of his previous efforts. In that meeting, Twilight refers to him in the same way her big brother does.

Twinkleshine - Unicorn mare who was friends with both Twilight Sparkle and Moon Dancer as a filly. Initially Star Dancer's apprentice, she moved to Ponyville around the same time as Twilight Sparkle and took a job with the Ponyville Choir. (Friendship is Magic, Amending Fences, Rarity and the Curious Case of Charity, Broken Fences)

Lemon Hearts - Unicorn mare who was friends with both Twilight Sparkle and Moon Dancer as a filly. She moved to Ponyville around the same time as Twilight Sparkle and became the event planner for Ponyville's town government. (Friendship is Magic, Amending Fences, Broken Fences)
She was mentioned briefly again later during searches for thefts related to Operation Hornpoint. (A Just Cause)

Minuette - Unicorn mare who was friends with both Twilight Sparkle and Moon Dancer as a filly. Shining Armor heard a rumor she was practicing dentistry in Ponyville, but did not have any supporting evidence for the rumor. (Friendship is Magic, Amending Fences, Broken Fences)
She was mentioned briefly again later during searches for thefts related to Operation Hornpoint. (A Just Cause)

Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo/Muffins - Various names for the same grey-coated pegasus mare with a distinctive "dizzy" expression in her eyes, sometimes mistaken for a disability. She serves as the Ponyville mailmare, and delivered Shining Armor's letter to his sister regarding Moon Dancer. (Broken Fences)
She also appears in The Day of Discord, where she made a suggestion to hide from Discord's chaotic rampage in Ponyville's post office, only for the magic to attack the ponies trying to hide there instead.

Opalescence - Rarity's pet cat, who lives with her in Ponyville. Opalescence helped stop an attempted abduction of Sweetie Belle by Agent of Chaos P2. (Suited for Success, Zecora, Circle of the Moon)

Twist - Classmate of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, with a pronounced sweet tooth and equally pronounced lisp that tends to turn her "s" into a "th". In Zecora, we see her in a "cutie mark quest" (mirroring the later antics of the Crusaders) helping Pinkie Pie in Sugarcube Corner. It is implied this later lead to the discovery of her cutie mark in candymaking. (Call of the Cutie)

Thunderlane - Young pegasus stallion and aspiring Wonderbolt. Before the events of Rainboom Revolution, Wonderbolt Captain Spitfire had met him as he mistook Guard Upper Class 8-Bit (Thunderlane's cousin) for Thunderlane himself. (Hurricane Fluttershy, Wonderbolts Academy)

Scootaloo - Pegasus filly, known for both her apparent lack of ability to fly and desire to be "adopted" by Rainbow Dash, which was eventually granted to a certain extent. As one of the "Cutie Mark Crusaders", she was invited by Princess Celestia to perform a reprise of the talent show act seen in The Show Stoppers and was caught up in Lieutenant Troilus' conspiracy as a result. (Call of the Cutie, Sleepless in Ponyville, The Crusaders)
Scootaloo was one of the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" that unintentionally helped release Discord from his stone prison during a tour of the Canterlot Castle statue garden. (The Return of Harmony, The Day of Discord)

Davenport - Earth pony stallion that owns and operates Ponyville's Quills and Sofas store. (Owl's Well That Ends Well, It's Not The Mane Thing About You) In Zero Point, he is seen lamenting about the arbitrary rules laid out by Canterlot politicians hemming in his ability to compete with Rich's Barnyard Bargains and expand his business.

===========================

Other Royal Service (ORS) - These characters serve, or formerly served, the princesses of Canterlot in some "civilian" capacity.

Kibitz - Older unicorn stallion that serves as Princess Celestia's scheduling adviser. He holds a warrant of operation issued by an unspecified Captain of the Guard. Upon the return of Princess Cadance to Canterlot, he attempted to catch her up on Canterlot events but Cadance was distracted by other thoughts and Kibitz was eventually shooed away by Princess Celestia. Sometime later, he had to take on supervising the hasty departure of the Griffon Ambassador's party from Raven on Celestia's orders. (IDW Micro #10, Cadance, Excelsior)

Raven - Unicorn mare who serves both in Canterlot and Ponyville, presumably on Celestia's commission. Like Kibitz, she holds a warrant of operation issued by an unspecified Captain of the Guard. She was supervising the hasty departure of the Griffon Ambassador's party when she was ordered to assist in inventory by Captain Gibraltar and Princess Celestia, leaving Kibitz with her original task. (IDW Comics, Excelsior)
Later, we see her tasked with delivering Princess Celestia's orders to Captain Gibraltar regarding protecting Ponyville from further Ursa intrusions, which was later formulated into "Operation Shield", and then relaying the response back to Celestia. She later performed a similar function for Celestia in regards to "Operation Integration" - the effort to make the previously-isolated Zecora an Equestrian citizen (Operation Shield, Zecora)

The Most Honorable Star Dancer - Unicorn mare, mother of Moon Dancer and Java Jive, long-time friend of Twilight Sparkle's parents and former head of the Royal Observatory. She was a classmate (in Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns) and co-worker of Twilight Sparkle's parents before the latter resigned their posts to take care of their foals. Several years before Princess Luna's return, she became head of the Royal Observatory. She knew how much Moon Dancer admired Twilight Sparkle, and as Moon Dancer slid into misanthropy following Twilight's assignment to Ponyville she called Shining Armor for help. Unfortunately, this defied the will of the Agents of Chaos, who had a controlling influence in Star Dancer's life due to the uncertain paternity of Java Jive, which lead to Agent Snake having her captured and her horn cut off as punishment. This effectively forced her to resign her post as head of the Royal Observatory as a result. (Broken Fences)
Her cut-off horn was later discovered mounted on a labeled rock bust in Snake's "trophy gallery" during Captain Gibraltar's survey of the defeated Agents of Chaos secret HQ, and presumably recovered afterward. (Consequences)

The Finance Minister - Male pony of an unspecified species responsible for all financial matters in Canterlot. His experiences with Celestia seem to have instilled a sense of paranoia and suspicion of motives for financial requests, leading to much derision (sometimes getting called a "stubborn mule" and similar titles) and antipathy among the Princesses as well as some others in royal service. Because of the Finance Minister's stubbornness in granting financial requests, Twilight Sparkle was forced to send Spike directly to Canterlot to perform the negotiations instead of doing it remotely. (In Praise of Twilight)

Owlowiscious - This owl was Princess Luna's original post-exile pet, and first appears without a name in The Crusaders as helping thwart Lieutenant Troilus' conspiracy. He was given his name by Luna as a reward for helping with that task, and later given to Twilight Sparkle to become her nighttime assistant, although not without causing trouble with Spike in doing so. (Owl's Well That Ends Well)

Sheriff Silverstar - As sheriff of the settlement of Appleloosa, this earth pony stallion is technically in royal service as a representative of the Equestrian government. The leading authority in the settlement, Silverstar coordinated the town's defense from a buffalo tribe attack, working alongside Lieutenant Meadow Song and his squad in this effort. Later, he became one of the signatories of the peace treaty between the buffalo tribes and the Appleloosan settlers, and also requested some recovery resources from Canterlot, which was relayed by Lieutenant Meadow Song on his way back to Ponyville. (Over a Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)

Chancellor Trailblazer - First earth pony stallion to hold the rank of Chancellor of the Equestria Education Association, and the predecessor of Neighsay in the role. His tenure saw the implementation of controversial reforms of the Equestrian school system, which turned many members of the EEA against him, and after then-Vice Chancellor Neighsay publically incriminated him as a supporter of the Agents of Chaos Trailblazer appeared to commit suicide by cyanide ingestion. However, it was later revealed that cyanide poisoning was not the cause of death, and that it was suspected Trailblazer had actually been murdered instead. Trailblazer's death opened the way for Neighsay to become Chancellor himself through conspiracy with Guard Lieutenant Troilus. (Phoenix Down)

Head Groundskeeper - Light grey earth pony stallion, formerly in charge of all maintenance of the Canterlot castle grounds, as well as all plants and animals living on it. At some point, he had become a secret supporter of the Agents of Chaos, providing them with poisons mixed from chemicals used in gardening (including probably some seen used in previous actions by the Agents of Chaos). This support was based on lies told to him by the Agents of Chaos about unicorn suppression of earth ponies, and by the time the Head Groundskeeper found out he had been lied to he was unable to escape the "trap". (A Just Cause)
Following the failure of Operation Whirlwind, his operation was found by Lieutenant Troilus, but the Lieutenant struck a deal with the Head Groundskeeper to keep it concealed in exchange for supplying the poisons for his own anti-pegasus cause. It is believed those poisons are behind the deaths in Troilus' schemes. The Head Groundskeeper was ultimately betrayed and abandoned by Troilus after delivering the poisons intended for use in Operation Hornpoint - while Canterlot in general was distracted by the events of the Grand Galloping Gala, the earth pony stallion went to his secret lab and committed suicide by swallowing one of his own poisons, certain now that his crimes would be uncovered after the betrayal. It was there his dead body, along with a suicide note explaining his past crimes and a copy of the Hornpoint campaign scheme, was discovered by Captain Gibraltar and Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor the following morning. (A Just Cause)

=====================================

Historical and Legendary Figures (HLF) - All of the following are characters that lived in the historical past or are simply legends. Purely fictional characters, such as Daring Do and the Power Ponies, are excluded from this list.

Commander Hurricane - Historical warleader of the pegasi and one of the founders of Equestria. Rainbow Dash once played him in a reenactment of Equestria's founding. Lieutenant Captain Aten seems to deliberately model himself after Commander Hurricane, perhaps playing into Aten's belief in being a modern-day version of him. (Hearth's Warming Eve, Excelsior)
Based on Zero Point, Commander Hurricane was historically recognized as the first true "Captain of the Guard", and all others that serve in that capacity at Canterlot Castle have to be proclaimed by Princess Celestia as his legitimate successor for their authority to be recognized.

King Bullion and Princess Platinum - This father and daughter were important figures in the founding of Equestria, and Prince Blueblood claimed to be a pretender to the kingdom they once ruled (now absorbed into the rule of the sisters Celestia and Luna). Rarity once played Princess Platinum in a Hearth's Warming Eve pageant. (Hearth's Warming Eve, The Journal of The Two Sisters, Consequences)
The recognition of Blueblood as the pretender leader of "The House of Bullion" (the descendants of Princess Platinum) was revoked by Princess Celestia after Blueblood's disgraceful behavior at the Grand Galloping Gala and involvement in "Operation Hornpoint". As such, all honors and titles associated with "The House of Bullion" would die with Blueblood. (Best Night Ever, A Just Cause)

Star Swirl the Bearded - Unicorn stallion, the "most important conjurer of the pre-classical era". Princess Luna mentions that keeping owls as pets was a tradition of him and his peers, and wanted the magically powerful Twilight Sparkle to have the same privilege as they did. (Luna Eclipsed, The Crusaders)

King Guto - The final king of a united Griffon kingdom centered around Griffonstone. After the Arimaspi stole the Idol of Boreas contained within Griffonstone, the kingdom fractured and split into several different pretender factions, one involving the Griffon Ambassador seen in Excelsior and another involving the Griffonstone civil government. Mentioned in Consequences by Prince Blueblood. (The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone)

================================

"Quesadilla Polka" - Code name given to an orange coated earth pony stallion with a poofy brown mane and tail, first mentioned unnamed in Cadance and then seen in Mission to Appleloosa. Based on the physical description and seen personality quirks, it is almost certain the real identity of this stallion is Cheese Sandwich, although he operated under the code name for some time before meeting Pinkie Pie properly due to Agent of Chaos rebel activity. (Pinkie Pride, Mission to Appleloosa)
Apparently "Quesadilla Polka" gained Princess Celestia's attention for the first time after a heroic performance during the "Eternal Night", as mentioned in Cadance, and then he was given the codename for communication with others after the Agents of Chaos rebels put a bounty on his head. This forced him to flee from his usual operating circuit undercover and stay near Appleloosa until contacted by Lieutenant Meadow Song, assisted by Guard Upper Class Noteworthy and both operating under Celestia's orders. (Mission to Appleloosa)
After the contact and interview, the stallion agreed to assist the mission of Meadow Song and his Royal Guard squad, although was unable to do anything effectively until after the peace agreement between the buffalo and Appleloosans had been signed. He also promised to assist any "loyalist" squads sent to clear the rebel Agent of Chaos strongholds, while in the meantime helping maintain the new peace, an effort which continued even after the rebel threat had been eliminated. (Pinkie Pride, Mission to Appleloosa)
Quesadilla later travelled to the Canterlot-Las Pegasus road and joined Operation Just Cause fighting the rebels despite the huge risk to his life this entailed. He believed he needed to do this in order to prove he had the courage to tell the truth of how much Pinkie Pie meant to him at a later point. As part of the operation, he played an important role in the assault on "Fort Alpha". (Pinkie Pride, A Just Cause)

Pony Joe/Donut Joe - Unicorn stallion, owner and baker of a donut shop in Canterlot. Twilight Sparkle and Spike frequently were customers of his shop during Twilight's time as Princess Celestia's student. It was at his shop Zodiac persuaded Moon Dancer to try to run away from Canterlot and her mother. (The Best Night Ever, Broken Fences)
Donut Joe is mentioned in In Praise of Twilight as the official supplier of donuts and coffee to Princess Celestia and later Luna as well, and also The Crusaders.
In A Just Cause and The Best Night Ever, his shop is seen as the location of the more informal party with Princess Celestia and the Element Bearers conducted after the ruining of the Grand Galloping Gala. This was discovered by Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor and Princess Cadance when sent by Captain Gibraltar to look for Celestia and the Element Bearers.

"Magnum" (Hondo Flanks) - Unicorn stallion who serves as a hoofball coach and has a very odd sense of fashion. He is also the father of Rarity, the Element of Generosity bearer, and was apparently selected by Princess Celestia to help Buck Withers because of this. Magnum was selected to give a speech in honor of Terry Broadshank alongside Buck Withers, and the copy of a family photograph Magnum gave to Buck helped in the latter's enlightenment. Magnum also gave another copy of the same photograph to Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor, who passed on the fact that Magnum is Rarity's father to Buck Withers afterward. (Sisterhooves Social, Buck Nothing)

Cookie Crumbles - Unicorn mare and Rarity's mother. Although not named, she appears in the family photograph copies Magnum (her husband) gives to Buck Withers and Shining Armor. (Sisterhooves Social, Buck Nothing)

Strong Withers - Earth pony stallion, former member of the Equestrian Congress of Representatives and father of Buck Withers. After Princess Cadance rejected Buck Withers in favor of Shining Armor, he vowed to use his "connections" (it is now suspected that he was an Agent of Chaos) to help break up Cadance and Shining Armor. Instead, he ended up destroying his career when the secret campaign was exposed, causing him to also disown Buck. Strong Withers presumably went into hiding after resigning from the Congress, as Buck had not heard anything from his father after that point. Agent Snake later sent a letter to Agent 21 ordering Strong Wither's death after Buck's "betrayal" of the Agents of Chaos. (Buck Nothing, alluded to but unnamed in IDW Comics #12)
It was later revealed Agent 21's mission was successful in killing Strong Withers, where the dead stallion was presumably left to rot in the Equestrian wilderness - his body would never be found to confirm this, though. His mate later managed to reunite with Buck briefly and confess Strong's involvement in the Agents of Chaos before she too passed on. (Pocketful of Posies)

Lilly Withers - Earth pony mare, wife of Strong Withers and mother of Buck Withers. Described as a "former trophy wife", presumably she went into hiding with her husband and followed him in disowning her colt. Agent Snake later ordered Agent 21 to bring her to Canterlot after killing her mate. (Buck Nothing)
In Pocketful of Posies, we see the ultimate fate of this mare. After the murder of her mate as they were hiding in the Equestrian wilds, she was brought to Canterlot into Agent Snake's "herd", where she suffered greatly as a result. Eventually, she was dumped on the Canterlot mountainside, where she was found and brought to a hospital, where she reunited with her colt for the first time in many years. At the hospital, she managed to confess the fate and connections of her mate (and Buck's father) to Buck before she succumbed to the abuse heaped upon her. She was buried in the spot once reserved for her husband at Canterlot Valley National Cemetery.

Posey - Earth pony mare who may have been the mother of Element of Kindness bearer Fluttershy, described as a mare "who's optimism and faith seemed to be unquenchable by even the direst adversity". Somehow she ended up in the "herd" of Agent Snake, where she suffered greatly and ultimately died as a result. Before her death, she comforted fellow captive Lilly Withers with the hope that a filly "in her image" would save them and had faith the Element Bearers would save them from their gruesome fate. The extraordinary lengths that the Agents of Chaos went to obscure her identity after her death - cutting her mane and tail off at the base as well as burning over the cutie mark - seems to support the idea she was somehow related to Fluttershy. (Pocketful of Posies)
Posey did have one confirmed foal - a colt named Thornwing who eventually became a Guard Upper Class in the Royal Guard, and an Agent of Chaos in order to ultimately rescue her enslaved mother. It appears he was deliberately kept in the dark about his mother's fate and only became aware of it as a test of loyalty. When Thornwing attempted to defect from the Agents of Chaos instead (telling of Posey's previously unknown identity to loyal Guard officers), he was assassinated. Ultimately, it was agreed that she would be buried alongside her son as an honor to balance this dishonor of both their deaths. (High Fashion High Noon)

Granny Pie - Mentioned by Pinkie Pie in Friendship is Magic as an important influence in her life. We learn more about her in The Parasprite Project - she was a pegasus, the mother of Pinkie's father, and was accepted in an otherwise very conservative earth pony community by leading parasprite swarms away from crops, a technique she passed on to her grandfilly along with other known traits.

Sunburst - A unicorn stallion with a vast knowledge about magic spells, even if unable to cast them very well. (The Crystalling) At the time of Rainboom Revolution, he was an obscure researcher of old artifacts that became caught up in "Operation Whirlwind", victimized by Agent Sadness' squad attacking Canterlot Castle.

Cherry Jubilee - Earth pony mare, owner of Cherry Hill Ranch in Dodge Junction. She donated some of her old baking equipment to Appleloosa to assist the nearby new settlement in getting off the ground. This equipment was used to help make the pies used in defense of the town. (Over A Barrel, The Last Roundup, Mission to Appleloosa)

Blueberry Whip - Dark blue colored earth pony mare, mate of Lieutenant Blasto and mother of Fizzlepop Berrytwist (alias "Tempest Shadow"). She traveled with her mate to Ponyville to adopt the orphaned foals of the dead Agents P1 and P2, meeting Twilight Sparkle long before Twilight met her still living and now grown-up filly. It is not known if either the mother or filly knows the other is still alive. (My Little Pony: The Movie, Consequences)

Spring Rain - Former friend of Fizzlepop Berrytwist and a member of a later class of Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns than Twilight's. Twilight did not know her very well when asked by Fizzlepop's father Lieutenant Blasto, although she did say she was always going to Moon Dancer's parties. (The Stormy Road to Canterlot, Consequences)

Glitter Drops - Former friend of Fizzlepop Berrytwist and a member of a later class of Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns than Twilight's. Twilight did not know her very well when asked by Fizzlepop's father Lieutenant Blasto, although she did say she was always going to Moon Dancer's parties. (The Stormy Road to Canterlot, Consequences)

Cozy Glow - Young pegasus filly that eventually became Lord Tirek's "apprentice" and nemesis to Twilight Sparkle's School of Friendship. (Marks for Effort, School Raze) In A Just Cause, it was revealed her father had been a member of the Agent of Chaos, eventually becoming the second Agent Deceit, and the mistakes of her father likely contributed to her eventual hatred of other ponies and villainous service to Lord Tirek.
The Day of Discord elaborates on Cozy Glow's pathway to becoming a villain, her trust (and her physical body) being abused by a Changeling drone that had assumed the identity of her father (and killed her mother, leaving her essentially orphaned). This abuse, conducted for the purpose of facilitating the aims of Queen Chrysalis, mixed with the previous worship of "the chaotic one" she was being raised in to irrevocably warp her mind, thinking she needed to be deceitful above all else in order to survive and thrive in life.
Zero Point shows her being lead by her father and uncle (both now actually Changelings in disguise) persuading her into assisting in building a movement of discontented pegasi - although not a villain at this point, the actions would eventually push her fully into villainhood.

Trouble Shoes - A clumsy and unlucky Earth pony resident in the area of Appleloosa. Mentioned by one of the train pullers seen in Over a Barrel, as that stallion was a cousin of Trouble Shoes and quite worried about his lack of communication with other members of his family. (Appleoosa's Most Wanted, Mission to Appleloosa)

Dicentra Liber - Head librarian of Canterlot Library in The Point of No Return, having replaced Dusty Pages in that position at some point between the latter's resignation from the post and the events of the previously mentioned episode. Dusty Pages appears to have resigned at some point during the events of Season 1, as Dicentra Liber was working in the library during the events of The Day of Discord but was not familiar with Dusty Pages when asked about her.

"Manny Roar" - Fluttershy's nickname for the manticore she helped in Friendship is Magic. He later became a regular "customer" of Fluttershy's services and helped fight the Agents of Chaos in Zecora. In Circle of the Moon, he was played by Guard Upper Class Excelsior in costume in the play "Circle of the Moon".

Steven Magnet - Name of the "sea serpent" Rarity helped in Friendship is Magic, resident in the Everfree Forest. The three stallion party of "Operation Integration" needed his help to cross the river, as the bridge they would've normally used had been cut down into the river by the Agents of Chaos. (Zecora)

Little Strongheart - First described as "a small buffalo" or "little buffalo" by the Ponyville Royal Guard contingent, this young female member of the buffalo tribe defeated Rainbow Dash during a train raid conducted by the buffalo while the contingent was enroute to Appleloosa alongside the Element Bearers. After this, she helped convince Rainbow Dash to join the buffalo cause in opposition to the other Element Bearers and was involved in the battle between the buffalo tribe and Appleloosans. The Royal Guard contingency only learned of her true name after being told of it by Twilight Sparkle, following the battle. (Over A Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)

Chief Thunderhooves - Chief of the buffalo tribe that were once antagonists of the Appleloosan settlers, due to the latter building their orchards in the way of their old stampeding grounds. This conflict eventually built into a battle that took place at the town of Appleloosa, but Thunderhooves changed his mind and agreed to work out a compromise after getting a taste of apple pie during that battle. The Royal Guard contingent that traveled with the Element Bearers to try to prevent the conflict only learned of his name after the battle had taken place. Thunderhooves was one of the signatories of the compromise agreement drafted by Lieutenant Meadow Song between the Appleloosan settlers and buffalo tribe, later sent to Princess Celestia for endorsement and recordkeeping. Little Strongheart may be his daughter, although this has not been clearly established. (Over A Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)

Charlie Browncoat - A (possibly fictional) pony described as being "wishy-washy". Zodiac compared Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor to him while he was in conversation with Moon Dancer. (Broken Fences)
