I'm going to be honest here...

Longer-term followers of this series will certainly have noticed by now that my posting frequency has significantly declined (especially over the last year or so) as compared to before. I want to make it clear that this is not because I have lost interest in continuing the Canterlot Chronicles series.

Character Profiles - Major Canons (Part 2) · 8:56pm Jan 13th, 2015

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Notes:
* This profile will cover all major characters that are canon to the show proper or "soft canon" spinoff media such as the IDW comics.
* For the purposes of definition, a "major" character is one that appears in six or more stories.
* Pure OCs (i.e. those not meant to match a character shown in the canon material defined above) that are "major" characters will be found in the Major OCs entry. OC Stand Ins will be found here - a link will be provided to their "canon depiction" for reference.
* References to canon material (as defined above) will be given in bold. References within the stories themselves will be in italics.

============================

The Element Bearers (TEB) - This lists all major characters who bear an Element of Harmony, except for Twilight Sparkle who is listed with her family above. These characters are generally also nicknamed by the Element they bear (e.g. Honesty Bearer, Bearer of Loyalty, Magic Holder, etc.); see below for more specific details.
Spike mentions all the Element Bearers at least once in In Praise of Twilight and all are played by female batponies in Circle of the Moon. All were also involved in the attack on Fort Chaos seen Rainboom Revolution in one capacity or another. All were also involved, on Princess Celestia's orders, in the gifting of "Bloomberg" to Appleloosa as seen in both Over a Barrel and Mission to Appleloosa. They were also involved as a group in countering and defeating Discord and the effects of his chaotic magic (The Return of Harmony, The Day of Discord).

Rainbow Dash - Pegasus, bearer of the Element of Loyalty. After the victory over "Nightmare Moon", she directly escorted Princess Celestia back to Ponyville, informing her of all that happened leading up to that point. (Friendship is Magic, The Long Road Home)
It was revealed to Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor by Princess Celestia that she, as a filly, was responsible for "the Sonic Rainboom incident" - the event that allowed all the future Element Bearers to get their cutie marks at the same time. Twilight Sparkle herself would learn this later on after all the Element Bearers shared their cutie mark stories. (Cutie Mark Chronicles, A New Mission)
A visit by her old friend Gilda the Griffon, which was allowed by the arrival of the Griffon Ambassador in Canterlot, ultimately did not end well and the old friendship was ruined, collateral damage of the schemes of the griffons. She was also mentioned by Lieutenant Stratocumulus during his debate over his true loyalty. (Griffon the Brush Off, Excelsior)
Rainbow Dash attended the party thrown in honor of Twilight's "taming" of an Ursa Minor, and then assisted in the subsequent "Operation Shield", most notably in helping to thwart an attack of the Agents of Chaos during the start of construction, although not without some friction between herself and others. (Operation Shield)
Rainbow Dash was likely the pegasus that attempted to interrupt Agents P1 and P2 attacking Lemony Gems' jewelry store in Ponyville. (Pocketful of Posies)
Spike used a term he heard from her to describe the "mixed blessing" of his natural draconic abilities. In addition, the effects of her first Sonic Rainboom are discussed during the stories flashing back to the time it occurred. (In Praise of Twilight)
Guard Upper Class Noteworthy attempted to interview Rainbow Dash in regards to the poison joke incident seen in Bridle Gossip, but before he could do so Rainbow Dash attacked Agent P1 attempting to interrupt the interview and shortly after joined Fluttershy in driving Agents P1 and P2 back into Everfree Forest. (Zecora)
Rainbow Dash also had to stop Fluttershy interfering with Royal Guard efforts to eliminate the parasprites after being lead back into the Everfree Forest by Pinkie Pie. (The Parasprite Project)
The dress Rarity made for Rainbow Dash in Suited for Success was the inspiration for a dress requested by Princess Cadance (High Fashion High Noon).
Rainbow is first seen in Circle of the Moon listening to Mayor Mare reading the decree canceling the Nightmare Night celebrations, and then seen again assisting Rarity in making the costumes for the play "Circle of the Moon" after helping thwart an attack that destroyed the initial work.
Rainbow's triumphant and life-saving sonic rainboom at the Best Young Flyer competition is played back in a briefing to the Canterlot Guard night shift, as well as being the sign of the "pegasus triumphant" the Agents of Chaos sought to trigger their Operation Whirlwind. During that operation, she was temporarily kidnapped by the two Agents stationed in Ponyville and had to be rescued by her fellow Element Bearers. (Sonic Rainboom, Rainboom Revolution)
She subsequently joined the attack against the fleeing Agents and "nuked" their hideout, killing both Agents in the process. Later, she learned that the attack she had been involved in was part of a broader plot that also victimized the Wonderbolts, although she refused to believe the information provided to her about what had happened to the Wonderbolts. (Rainboom Revolution, Consequences)
In The Crusaders, she was a central figure in the events of the story, due to being both Scootaloo's temporary guardian and the younger filly already thinking of Rainbow as an older sister figure. She was suspicious of the actions of their escort Guard Upper Class Lyacon, but didn't take action against him until Applejack had already done so.
In Over a Barrel and Mission to Appleloosa, she was seen being first defeated in trying to defend the train she was traveling on from a buffalo raid, then was captured by the buffalo tribe and briefly took their side in the dispute before it was resolved.
Captain Spitfire repeatedly referred to her as the "only hope" for the future of the Wonderbolts. (Phoenix Down)
At the Grand Galloping Gala, her hopes of meeting the Wonderbolts again were ruined, but she received a free ticket to their next show - both a gesture of goodwill and "down payment" of investment in their hope for the future. (The Best Night Ever, A Just Cause, After the Gala by AleximusPrime(used with permission))

Rarity - Unicorn, very well cultured and a businessmare. She bears the Element of Generosity and served as the unicorn escort to Princess Luna after the victory in the Castle of the Two Sisters. (Friendship is Magic, The Long Road Home)
She was mentioned in conversation to Princess Luna by Guard Upper Class Caramel, who is her neighbor in Ponyville. (Games We Play)
She appears in family photograph copies given by "Magnum" (her father) to Buck Withers and Shining Armor during the Lifetime Achievement Award dinner given in honor of Terry Broadshanks. Her presence in those pictures helped both of the other stallions understand why Magnum had been chosen to speak at that dinner - to positively influence Buck the same way Magnum had influenced his own filly. (Buck Nothing)
Rarity attended the party thrown in honor of Twilight's "taming" of an Ursa Minor. Although present at the meeting outlining "Operation Shield", her business obligations elsewhere prevented her from assisting in the operation. (Operation Shield)
Spike's mention of Rarity in In Praise of Twilight is the first time Shining Armor and Princess Cadance hear of the young dragon's crush on her, which was later revealed to be an open secret in Ponyville, even to Rarity herself. (Green Isn't Your Color, Secret of My Excess)
Rarity was interviewed by her neighbor Guard Upper Class Caramel in regards to the poison joke incident seen in Bridle Gossip, an interview briefly interrupted by Agent of Chaos P2 attempting to abduct Rarity's younger sister Sweetie Belle. (Zecora)
After the events of "Suited for Success", Rarity was given a chance to exhibit her work at Hoity Toity's gallery in Canterlot. There she met (though was not introduced to) Shining Armor and Princess Cadance for the first time before the exhibition was interrupted by an attack of the Agents of Chaos. (High Fashion High Noon)
In Circle of the Moon, Rarity was discretely tasked with making the costumes for the play "Circle of the Moon", which she succeeded in doing with help from her fellow Element Bearers despite an attack on her business that destroyed her initial work.
Her participation in the Best Young Flyers competition (as well as the rescue that needed to be performed as a result of it) was shown in a Canterlot Guard night shift briefing. During Operation Whirlwind, she fought against the actions of the two Agents of Chaos stationed in Ponyville. (Sonic Rainboom, Rainboom Revolution)
In The Crusaders, besides being a central figure in the events of the story due to being Sweetie Belle's older sister, her attraction to Prince Blueblood was mentioned by Lieutenant Troilus to the pretender prince, part of a plan to deliberately set Blueblood up for failure and force him to do what Troilus wanted him to do. (The Ticket Master, The Best Night Ever)
At the Grand Galloping Gala, Rarity "struck out" with Blueblood (due at least in part to Blueblood acting on bad advice) and fled the crashed Gala after making sure Blueblood would not be able to find her again. Instead, she danced with Spike as her partner at Pony Joe's donut cafe, where she and the fellow Element Bearers had gone to after the Gala had been crashed. (The Best Night Ever, A Just Cause, After the Gala by AleximusPrime(used with permission))
Rarity was directly affected by the "replacement" of Lieutenant Crispin seen in Zero Point, as the mares the Changeling drone wooed in an attempt to find a food source directly purchased from her store. This in combination with Crispin living nearby quickly caught Rarity's attention, but she was not able at the time to determine why Crispin's behavior had suddenly changed. Unfortunately, despite Applejack's encouragement she did not follow up on a "lead" that would've unveiled the conspiracy that was behind Crispin's "change". The replacement also lead to an awkward moment with Twilight Sparkle whereupon both mares discovered the "chaotic affliction" story for the first time, both mares making a critical mistake in not taking it seriously as it should've been at the time.

Applejack - Earth pony, bearer of the Element of Honesty and part of the very large Apple clan of ponies. She served as the earth pony escort to Princess Luna after the victory in the Castle of the Two Sisters. (Friendship is Magic, The Long Road Home)
She was mentioned in conversation in the context of her family to Princess Luna by Guard Upper Class Meadow Song, who is her distant relative by marriage. (Games We Play)
In Operation Shield, she is first seen as "spotter" for the moving of the cake during the party in celebration of Twilight Sparkle's victory over the Ursa Minor. Later, we see her present at the meeting outlining "Operation Shield", but her obligations to farmwork prevented her from assisting in the operation.
Next she is seen in Zecora, where Guard Upper Class Meadow Song attempted to interview her at Sweet Apple Acres regarding the poison joke incident seen in Bridle Gossip but was interrupted by Agent of Chaos P1. Applejack subsequently helped chase P1 off.
Applejack is first seen in Circle of the Moon listening to Mayor Mare reading the decree canceling the Nightmare Night celebrations, and then seen again assisting Rarity in making the costumes for the play "Circle of the Moon" after helping thwart an attack that destroyed the initial work.
During Operation Whirlwind, she fought against the actions of the two Agents of Chaos stationed in Ponyville. (Rainboom Revolution)
In The Crusaders, she was a central figure in the events of the story, due to being Apple Bloom's older sister. She was suspicious of the actions of their escort Guard Upper Class Lyacon, ultimately thwarting his distraction and stalling attempts to help stop Lieutenant Troilus' conspiracy to hold the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" hostage.
Her gifting of "Bloomberg" to the Appleloosan settlement was the main force behind both the plots Over a Barrel and Mission to Appleloosa. Originally intending to go alone on the recommendation of Apple Fritter, Princess Celestia ordered Applejack's fellow Element Bearers to accompany her, and then had her distant relative Meadow Song shadow Applejack's group to assist in secret.
Applejack attended the Grand Galloping Gala hoping to sell Apple family products to raise funds for a new barn roof, but got very little business from the Gala attendees, and her attempts to get attention contributed toward the disaster that befell the Gala. After she and her fellow Element Bearers regrouped at Pony Joe's donut shop, Princess Celestia voluntarily provided the funds for the roof Applejack had hoped to raise at the Gala. (The Best Night Ever, A Just Cause, After the Gala by AleximusPrime(used with permission))
Applejack is next seen in Zero Point, discussing with Twilight Sparkle and then Rarity about the strange behavior of her (recently "replaced") fellow Apple clan member Crispin, and also giving some background and history of the Apple clan in general. Rarity also mentions her discouraging the reading of gossip magazines. (Family Appreciation Day)

Fluttershy - Pegasus, well known for her shyness and love of animals. She bears the Element of Kindness and served as the pegasus escort to Princess Luna after the victory in the Castle of the Two Sisters. (Friendship is Magic, The Long Road Home)
In Operation Shield, Fluttershy is first seen at the party the Cakes throw for Twilight Sparkle, directing the earth pony couple in bringing their tribute cake out safely in one piece. Later she participated in "Operation Shield", where she was targeted by Agents of Chaos in an attempt to provoke the Ursas into coming out of their cave. Instead, she resisted long enough for help to arrive, foiling the plan and driving the Agents back to their hideout.
Fluttershy was likely the "filly in my image" Posey referred to in conversation with Lilly Withers while both were held captive in Agent Snake's herd. Because both mares ended up dead within a number of days afterward, it was never confirmed whether this was indeed true, and if Posey was indeed Fluttershy's mother. (Pocketful of Posies)
Guard Lower Class Lucky Clover attempted to interview Fluttershy in regards to the poison joke incident seen in Bridle Gossip, but before he could do so Fluttershy attacked Agent P2 attempting to interrupt the interview and shortly after joined Rainbow Dash in driving Agents P1 and P2 back into Everfree Forest. (Zecora)
Besides being the unwitting instigator of the parasprite infestation, Fluttershy also attempted to stop the operations to get rid of them during the recovery effort. (Swarm of the Century, The Parasprite Project)
She helped Rarity in the costumes for the "Circle of the Moon" play the batponies in Canterlot put on for Luna. (Circle of the Moon)
During Operation Whirlwind, she fought against the actions of the two Agents of Chaos stationed in Ponyville. (Rainboom Revolution)
Her hopes to meet the animals at Canterlot Castle during the Grand Galloping Gala instead unintentionally caused her to trigger an animal stampede after losing her temper in frustration, something which she deeply regretted afterward. Fortunately, Princess Celestia was able to console the young mare and brought the recovered Philomena to visit with Fluttershy again. (The Best Night Ever, A Just Cause, After the Gala by AleximusPrime(used with permission))

Pinkie Pie - Earth pony well known for her energy and eccentricity. She bears the Element of Laughter. (Friendship is Magic, The Long Road Home)
After Twilight Sparkle's triumph over the Ursa Minor, Pinkie dragged her into a party at Sugarcube Corner hosted by the Cake couple. For "Operation Shield", she donated use of her party cannon to temporarily replace a vandalized cloud cannon. (Operation Shield)
She is discussed in In Praise of Twilight, where it is also revealed Spike had learned the Pinkie Pie Promise some time before this point, before we first see Twilight Sparkle herself use it in Green Isn't Your Color.
In Zecora, Lieutenant Crispin attempts to interview her regarding the poison joke incident, but is interrupted both by Twist's "cutie mark quest" and Agent of Chaos P2's heckling. Pinkie invokes her "dark side" personality to scare off Agent P2. (Bridle Gossip, Party of One)
Pinkie Pie gave testimony about the parasprite infestation she helped control in the board of inquiry following the parasprite infestation of Ponyville (Swarm of the Century, The Parasprite Project)
Pinkie Pie is first seen in Circle of the Moon listening to Mayor Mare reading the decree canceling the Nightmare Night celebrations, and then seen again assisting Rarity in making the costumes for the play "Circle of the Moon" after helping thwart an attack that destroyed the initial work.
During Operation Whirlwind, she fought against the actions of the two Agents of Chaos stationed in Ponyville. (Rainboom Revolution)
She had a more prominent role in Over a Barrel and Mission to Appleloosa than some of her fellow Element Bearers, due to her half-baked attempts at promoting peace only serving to anger the antagonistic parties to the point of open war. Sheriff Silverstar supposedly banned her from visiting for life because of this, but it's not clear whether the subsequent peace treaty negated this ban.
She attended the Grand Galloping Gala, whereupon her attempts to "liven up" the party were not well received and contributed to the disaster that followed. Instead, she found more freedom to party her way at Pony Joe's donut shop, where she and the other Element Bearers had traveled to after the crashing of the Gala. (The Best Night Ever, A Just Cause, After the Gala by AleximusPrime(used with permission))

===================================

Wonderbolts (WNB) - Celebrity group of pegasi athletes who perform airshows for the general entertainment of the Equestrian population. Non-major characters who are members of the group can be found in other character profile entries depending on the frequency and moral alignment of the character.

Captain Spitfire - Spitfire is first mentioned separately from the rest of the Wonderbolts in the context of Lieutenant Stratocumulus questioning his true loyalty. He knew of a rumor that she doled out "loyalty" based on flying performance, something Rainbow Dash's later experiences with Spitfire suggest to be true. (Wonderbolts Academy, Rainbow Falls, Excelsior)
We later see that at Princess Celestia's command she herself, with Soarin' helping, trained Guard Upper Class Excelsior in flight, something which greatly annoyed her as a result. We also learn that as Wonderbolt Captain she has authority equal to Captain of the Guard as well as the tumultuous history between her and Aten that set up the current divisions within the Wonderbolts. Later, she was framed by Aten as supporting his "dare" to Shining Armor while she was away in Cloudsdale, only learning about it after witnessing Shining fulfilling his dare to cover all of Canterlot in a forcefield, and upon confronting Aten about this Spitfire lost the subsequent exchange of blows, as a result both marginalizing her political importance in Canterlot and crippling her ability to fight back against the forces seeking to tear the Wonderbolts apart. (Operation Shield)
Spitfire later had a meeting with Misty Fly about Zodiac and Lightning Dust's interest in joining the Wonderbolts, being once again duped by forged paperwork about their Junior Speedster's record. This deceit in the paperwork prevented Spitfire from being warned in advance of Lightning Dust's recklessness, which was a later source of trouble in Wonderbolts Academy. (Wonderbolts Academy, Broken Fences)
Another fight between Captain Spitfire and Lieutenant Captain Aten resulted in Princess Celestia essentially banning Spitfire from directly confronting Aten, further crippling the ability of the Wonderbolt captain to fight Aten's conspiracies against her. (Zecora)
"The Parasprite Project", in which a Wonderbolt show in Canterlot was sabotaged, seemed to have been a major turning point in Spitfire's behavior. Briefly imprisoned as a result of the project of the Agents of Chaos, Spitfire turned against her previous alliance with Shining Armor in anger - blaming his sister for the troubles she had suffered - and considered allying with Lieutenant Captain Aten. (The Parasprite Project)
The fallout of "The Parasprite Project" also resulted in a general protest demanding her removal and a (forged) threat to remove Royal Guard protection against the protestors, intending to intimidate her into resigning her position. When she refused, she was attacked by pegasi under command of "Mr. Hoofer", and the refusal of Misty Fly and her "faction" in the Wonderbolts to go after her attackers was interpreted as evidence of the Wonderbolts coming apart at the seams. (High Fashion High Noon)
The events of Sonic Rainboom caused her to directly attack Shining Armor as a proxy target for his younger sister's apparent recklessness that nearly got her and three other ponies killed. This turned out to be a huge mistake, as the Agents of Chaos had been manipulating her into doing this as part of their plan to implement Operation Whirlwind. She compounded this mistake by trying to confront the rebels herself, leading to her being taken hostage by Agent Snake. While a hostage, she was tortured and "violated" by Agent Snake, completely breaking her will in the process. in this broken will state, she admits her inferiority to others (particularly Rainbow Dash) and charges her two highest subordinates with helping Rainbow Dash become a Wonderbolt Captain in the future.
After the defeat of Agent Snake, Princess Celestia warned her of the grave consequences her actions would cause to the Wonderbolts. These consequences were not long in coming, which included the "casting out" of the Wonderbolts from the Royal Guard command structure, making Spitfire a Captain in name only. Emotionally wrecked by the events of Operation Whirlwind, she did not resist the punishment Celestia gave out. (Rainboom Revolution, Consequences)
After Whirlwind, Spitfire effectively shared authority with Soarin' as the reforms demanded by Celestia were implemented. She also was rumored to plan to resign her commission after the Grand Galloping Gala, something that was stated to not be true. Finally, it was revealed that she was pregnant as a result of Aten's previous "violation", which would've eventually ended her Wonderbolt career anyway. When the Wonderbolts were attacked again at their attempt at a revival show, Spitfire suffered a blow that caused her to miscarry the unborn foal and put her in the hospital again. (Phoenix Down)
She, along with other Wonderbolts, attended the Grand Galloping Gala, only managing to briefly meet Rainbow Dash again, and helped her fellow guests make an orderly exit from the event after it was crashed, helping to redeem the reputation of the entire organization. (Best Night Ever, A Just Cause)

*Lead Wingpony Soarin' Spitfire's second in command in the Wonderbolts and rumored "stallionfriend". He was a witness of the botched presentation ceremony for Princess Luna. (The Luna Shift).
He assisted in the Celestia-commanded training of Guard Upper Class Excelsior and later witnessed Shining Armor's first covering of Canterlot in a forcefield bubble. (Operation Shield) Later he was caught up and imprisoned alongside Spitfire as a result of "The Parasprite Project", along with the direct attacks on the Wonderbolts which were an aftereffect of "The Parasprite Project's" success. (The Parasprite Project, High Fashion High Noon)
Soarin' was a witness to Spitfire's attack on Shining Armor after the events of Sonic Rainboom and the briefing that followed it.
Later, he joined Spitfire confronting the rebellious Agent Snake, and ended up a hostage of the rebels as a result. After being freed, he joined Spitfire in traveling to the castle, hearing Princess Celestia's warning about the consequences of the failed rebellion. (Rainboom Revolution)
In the wake of the failed rebellion, Soarin' easily convinced Spitfire to assume temporary operational authority over the Wonderbolts, and directly received the consequences Celestia warned about, casting the Wonderbolts out of the Royal Guard. (Consequences)
In Phoenix Down, Soarin' was interviewed by Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor, in the process outlining the changes forced on the Wonderbolts by Princess Celestia, as well as the deep personal grief he carried with him - not just from his doubts about the group's future, but from the fact he had lost his grandparents on his dad's side in Operation Whirlwind. Whirlwind also dealt another blow, as the revelation of Spitfire's pregnancy as a result of Aten's "violation" also had caused the termination of an agreement between Spitfire's family and his that would've allowed the two to eventually marry.
He, along with other Wonderbolts, attended the Grand Galloping Gala, only managing to briefly meet Rainbow Dash again, and helped her fellow guests make an orderly exit from the event after it was crashed, helping to redeem the reputation of the entire organization. (Best Night Ever, A Just Cause)

Agent 8/Agent WA - Civilian identity Second Lead Wingpony Misty Fly of the Wonderbolts. She was activated shortly before the events of Operation Shield to lead the effort to tear the Wonderbolts apart, at first by framing Captain Spitfire as a supporter of Lieutenant Captain Aten's "dare" to Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor. Upon the success of this effort, Misty Fly's designation was changed from "8" to "WA" to indicate her role leading the Agents of Chaos within the Wonderbolts. She also lead the effort to try to break Shining Armor's forcefield bubble, directly leading to the confrontation between Captain Spitfire and Lieutenant Captain Aten, doubtless as Agent Snake intended for her to do.
Misty Fly also tried to get her nephew (and fellow Agent of Chaos) Zodiac and Lightning Streak's filly Lightning Dust recruited as future potential allies in the Wonderbolts. She succeeded in passing forged paperwork to get Spitfire's approval, but only Lightning Dust made it to the Wonderbolt Academy due to Zodiac's suicide. The incident with Lightning Dust there was directly the result of this act of Misty Fly. (Wonderbolts Academy, Broken Fences)
Misty Fly was later tasked by Agent Snake to recruit disgruntled rejects from Wonderbolt Academy and essentially start a competing organization with her as their Captain. In reality, this was a part of Agent Snake's plan to tear apart the Wonderbolts and set up Operation Whirlwind. As part of this plan, she was made Captain by Agent Snake of a subversive movement within the Wonderbolts, "the Blue Thunder". (In Praise of Twilight, Zecora)
As leader of "the Blue Thunder", Misty Fly was tasked with executing "the Parasprite Project" and may have been directly responsible for the subsequent sabotage of a Wonderbolt show in Canterlot. (The Parasprite Project)
She was one of the Agents attending the meeting following the first attack of "Mr. Hoofer", informed of Agent X's "plumbing job" to plug intelligence leaks. (High Fashion High Noon)
Misty Fly, in her civilian identity, attended the briefing of the night shift of what had happened earlier in the day at the Best Young Flyer competition, joining Spitfire in treating Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor contemptuously. She joined Captain Spitfire in confronting Agent Snake, apparently to help in making sure the latter was lured into the trap set for her, but was betrayed by Snake and ended up a hostage to the rebels as well. After the Wonderbolts were released, she accompanied Spitfire to the castle, receiving the warning given by Princess Celestia about the consequences of the rebellion. (Sonic Rainboom, Rainboom Revolution)
After Operation Whirlwind, Misty Fly was effectively stripped of her Agent of Chaos positioning and made leader of the new Junior Wonderbolt Squad, allowing her to share the former Second Lead Wingpony position with Fleetfoot but permanently locking her out of becoming Captain. This was partly done in punishment for the previous treachery against Spitfire.

=========================================

Lieutenant Captain Stratocumulus - White pegasus stallion, former night shift officer under Shining Armor's command, later becoming morning shift commander. Formerly went by alias "Agent 3" of the Agents of Chaos and "Agent Double Bar" in his double-agent role. (Cadance onward)
He was first mentioned assisting Lieutenant Vesper in searching Weather Ministry offices. After a confrontation with two figures in the shadows (later identified as Lieutenant Quill and Weather Minister Thunderdash) that detonate a bomb intent on exploding the offices and killing everypony present inside, he rescued Sprinkle Medley from the flames that the bomb ignited. (Cadance, Excelsior)
It was later revealed he was present at "Nightmare Moon's" return* as a Guard Upper Class member of the morning shift, and was one of the chariot pullers** for the reunited royal sisters in the subsequent Summer Sun Celebration. Despite getting blasted by "Nightmare Moon", he made a personal vow to serve the restored Luna, apparently very much impressing Celestia in the process. When the Guard shifts were reorganized, Stratocumulus was transferred to the new night shift and given a Lieutenant's commission. He was also recommended for a Medal of Valor, something the previous saving of Sprinkle Medley ultimately fasttracked. (Friendship is Magic, Games We Play, mentioned unnamed as part of group in The Long Road Home).
Stratocumulus pulled the "couple's chariot" during Luna's first nighttime tour of Canterlot conducted by Shining Armor. He also served as a guard escort when not pulling the chariot. (Games We Play)
Although a secret participant of the joint effort between the Agents of Chaos and the Griffon Ambassador to abduct Luna, the failure of this effort caused a personal threat by Snake and Stratocumulus to question his true allegiance. It was also revealed his special talent is "cloud paving" and had joined the Agents of Chaos trying to get a military construction job. (Excelsior)
The next plot, to defame Shining Armor by implying he was being unfaithful to Princess Cadance and in a relationship with Princess Luna instead, was thwarted at least in part by Lieutenant Stratocumulus telling Captain of the Guard Gibraltar of the circumstances of a possible strike. It is currently unclear whether his still-secret membership in the Agents of Chaos allowed him to obtain this information. (Buck Nothing)
Stratocumulus was invited to join the new Royal Guard Oubliettes and Ogres club by fellow pegasus Lieutenant Aldebaran, but politely refused despite the latter's persistence. In response, he simply told both Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor and Princess Luna that kind of game didn't appeal to him. (Operation Shield)
Apparently due to his double-agent status, Lieutenant Stratocumulus was able to warn Shining Armor and his fellow night-shift Lieutenants about the plot against Star Dancer. He went with Shining Armor to Star Dancer's apartment and fought against Zodiac there. (Broken Fences)
Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor ordered Lieutenant Skyver to take two ponies from Stratocumulus' command to replace the ponies posted at the gate after the assassination attempt on Buck Withers. (Pocketful of Posies)
He returned to Ponyville in Zecora as one of the Canterlot reinforcements to Operation Integration, successfully helping complete the mission as the pegasus representative of Princess Celestia. Later he was one of the Agents attending the meeting following the first attack of "Mr. Hoofer" (High Fashion High Noon)
Stratocumulus was one of the night shift Lieutenants present in the briefing given by Captain Gibraltar regarding the events of the Best Young Flyers competition where Rainbow Dash performed a sonic rainboom to save lives. Later, he witnessed the start of the rebellion under his Agent of Chaos "persona" and attempted to warn about it, but was stopped by Agent X and ended up in the hospital as a result. His condition and whereabouts after the defeat of the rebellion were unknown after that. (Sonic Rainboom, Rainboom Revolution)
It was later revealed that he had lasted the night safely in Canterlot General Hospital, getting a blood transfusion that saved his life. The morning following the defeated rebellion, he was visited by Lieutenant Captain Fidelitas, who announced Celestia's public acknowledgement of his double-agent role and promotion into the Lieutenant Captain rank vacated by Aten's treachery. (Consequences)
Shortly after Stratocumulus assumed command of the Canterlot Castle morning shift, Lieutenant Troilus turned against him, presumably due to Stratocumulus being a pegasus and promoted over him, and Stratocumulus had to help stop Troilus' plan to hold hostage the "Cutie Mark Crusaders". The conspiracies of Troilus also caused losses in his new command. (The Crusaders, Phoenix Down)
The morning after the Grand Galloping Gala, he was present as part of a meeting regarding the missing Prince Blueblood when Java Jive arrived with a vital piece of information about his whereabouts. He also gave additional information about the renegade Lieutenant Troilus and comrades to Captain Gibraltar. Later, he was present during the meeting that initiated Operation Just Cause. (A Just Cause)
Like many of his comrades, he was concerned about Princess Celestia's opening of the castle statue garden to public tours. After Discord was released in validation of the fears, Stratocumulus had to supervise the lockdown of the castle in a vain attempt to stop the draconequus. (The Return of Harmony, The Day of Discord)
In Zero Point, Stratocumulus was seen as the pegasus representative acknowledging Shining Armor as Captain of the Guard during the "passing the torch" ceremony.
* Stallion closest to "camera"
** Forward right (from Celestia and Luna's perspective) puller

Aide Cherry Fizzy - Earth pony stallion that serves in a "non-com" role in the Royal Guard, roughly equivalent in authority to a Lieutenant. Previously in direct service to Princess Celestia in Canterlot (and a witness to the Sonic Rainboom that all of the future Element Bearers got their cutie marks from), he was later assigned as an assistant to Mayor Mare in Ponyville. He was interviewed as a witness to Trixie's magic show that indirectly lead to the Ursa Minor attack on Ponyville, and also assisted in implementing "Operation Shield" to protect Ponyville from future Ursa attacks. (Boast Busters, The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Magical Mystery Cure, Operation Shield)
Because of his witnessing of the Sonic Rainboom, he appears in In Praise of Twilight as a part of Cadance's story. At that point, he was a Guard Upper Class in terms of rank.
Appears at the Mayor Mare called meeting outlining the execution of "Operation Integration", and was tasked with interviewing Twilight Sparkle in regards to the recent poison joke incident. (Zecora)
Cherry Fizzy was one of Mayor Mare's escorts during the latter's announcement of Celestia's cancellation of Nightmare Night festivities. (Circle of the Moon)
This stallion also participated in the assault on Fort Chaos during the night "Operation Whirlwind" was executed, responding to the previous attack by the two Agents of Chaos hiding there on Ponyville. (Rainboom Revolution)
After Lieutenant Crispin was posted to Canterlot in the aftermath of Operation Whirlwind's failure, Cherry Fizzy became the interim ranking officer in Ponyville. Cherry Fizzy served as one of Twilight Sparkle's conduits of information of events in Canterlot during that time period. He also was involved in the funeral for the Agents P1 and P2. Finally, he witnessed his comrade Meadow Song be commissioned as a Lieutenant, Cherry Fizzy falling under his command as Meadow Song had been designated as Crispin's successor. (Consequences)
Cherry Fizzy was the second-in-command of the squad dispatched to "shadow" the Element Bearers to Appleloosa, playing various roles first in the defense of the town against the buffalo tribe attack, and then the rebuilding and implementation of the subsequent peace treaty between the buffalo and Appleloosans. (Over a Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)

Lieutenant Meadow Song - Earth pony stallion and mate of Apple Fritter. This also makes him a cousin-in-law of Applejack and her siblings. He primarily serves as a conduit of information between the Apple family and Princess Celestia, and it was through this Celestia learned of Applejack's cutie mark story. He was later assigned to help escort Princess Luna when she was about in the afternoon and told her of Applejack's siblings. He also helped defeat an attack of the Agents of Chaos on his first assignment guarding Luna. (A New Mission, Games We Play, Mission to Appleloosa)
Meadow Song was later interviewed regarding the events of Trixie's arrival in Ponyville and subsequent Ursa Minor attack, then participated in "Operation Shield" under the command of Lieutenant Captain Fidelitas. Later under Lieutenant Crispin's command he participated in "Operation Integration", first by interviewing Applejack and then assisting the Canterlot reinforcements. (Operation Shield, Zecora)
He was once again seen as a conduit of information by delivering Celestia's decree canceling the Nightmare Night celebrations to Ponyville, along with a letter from Shining Armor to his younger sister. (Circle of the Moon)
This stallion also participated in the assault on Fort Chaos during the night "Operation Whirlwind" was executed, responding to the previous attack by the two Agents of Chaos hiding there on Ponyville. (Rainboom Revolution)
In the aftermath of Operation Whirlwind's failure, Meadow Song was commissioned as a Lieutenant, succeeding Lieutenant Crispin as the ranking officer of the Ponyville members of the E.U.P. Guard and taking charge of operations there. (Consequences)
His first independent command operation was the Celestia-ordered "shadowing" of the Element Bearers on their trip to Appleloosa, something he was well aware of thanks to his mate Apple Fritter being the trigger for the trip but never intending to go himself. After a brief conflict between the Appleloosan settlers and native buffalo tribe, Meadow Song helped Twilight Sparkle draw up a peace treaty between the two parties. We also learn in this story more about his origin - he's the colt of an entertainer family that had the Apple clan as their primary "patrons". The marriage of Meadow Song and Apple Fritter was performed in part to strengthen and affirm this relationship. (Over a Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)
Meadow Song briefly appears in The Day of Discord, leading an effort to help defend citizens of Ponyville from Discord's machinations and then in reuniting the scattered Element Bearers at Twilight Sparkle's behest.
In Zero Point, Meadow Song was seen as the earth pony representative acknowledging Shining Armor as Captain of the Guard during the "passing the torch" ceremony. He had previously been tasked with compiling an official report covering the events of Lesson Zero, something that kept him from preventing subversive behavior by a Changeling infiltrator in Ponyville until it was too late. The subversive behavior also caused Meadow Song to unintentionally misled Twilight about an important announcement, missing an opportunity to learn about her older brother's proposal to Princess Cadance and promotion to Captain of the Guard.

Guard Upper Class Caramel - Earth pony stallion and Rarity's neighbor in Ponyville. He learned of Rarity's cutie mark story and subsequently passed this information on to Princess Celestia. He was later assigned to help escort Princess Luna when she was about in the afternoon and told her of Rarity's younger sister. He also helped defeat an attack of the Agents of Chaos on his first assignment guarding Luna. (Best Night Ever, A New Mission, Games We Play)
As a resident of Ponyville serving in the Royal Guard, he participated in "Operation Shield" and worked under Lieutenant Crispin's command for the duration of the assignment. For the same reason, he also participated in "Operation Integration". (Operation Shield, Zecora)
Caramel delivered the secret batpony orders for the play "Circle of the Moon" to Rarity, along with a warning about outside interference that would later prove correct. (Circle of the Moon)
This stallion also participated in the assault on Fort Chaos during the night "Operation Whirlwind" was executed, responding to the previous attack by the two Agents of Chaos hiding there on Ponyville. (Rainboom Revolution)
After Operation Whirlwind, he witnessed his comrade Meadow Song be commissioned as a Lieutenant, Caramel falling under his command as Meadow Song had been designated as Crispin's successor. (Consequences)
Caramel was a member of the Ponyville Royal Guard contingent ordered to "shadow" the Element Bearers travelling to Appleloosa, participating in both the defense of the town against buffalo attack and then implementing the peace treaty between the Appleloosan settlers and buffalo tribe. (Over a Barrel, Mission to Appleloosa)
His role as "off-duty" carriage puller in Best Night Ever was briefly also seen in A Just Cause.
Caramel briefly appears in The Day of Discord, helping defend citizens of Ponyville from Discord's machinations and then in reuniting the scattered Element Bearers at Twilight Sparkle's behest.
Mentioned by Rarity in Zero Point, due to him living next door to her.

Guard Upper Class Buck Withers - Earth pony stallion, colt of former Congresspony Strong Withers and high school rival of Shining Armor for the affections of Princess Cadance. After Cadance rejected him for Shining Armor, he chose Lemony Gems, who was actively seeking his attention, to be his new marefriend, hoping to use her to help get Cadance back. His father became involved in trying to help Buck get Cadance back, a secret campaign that would ultimately destroy both Buck's family and his future playing professional polo.
At rock bottom, Buck Withers was sent a recruitment poster into the Royal Guard by an unidentified "concerned classmate" (later heavily implied to be Shining Armor), which Buck interpreted as a second chance at life and at getting Princess Cadance back. He joined the Royal Guard, going through Guard Academy and a mandatory field tour before being assigned to the Canterlot night shift as a Guard Lower Class commanded by Shining Armor. In Canterlot he had to wrestle with the demons of his past and the temptations of Agent Snake, where Buck temporarily became "Agent WB" and was tasked with publicly defaming Shining Armor on the promise this would get Cadance back.
However, after a series of revelations, Buck instead publicly called out what the Agents of Chaos wanted him to do, foiling their plot and earning him a promotion to Guard Upper Class. Shortly afterward, he was forgiven of his past attitudes toward Cadance by Celestia, and reconciled with Shining Armor. He then quasi-officially joined Shining Armor's campaign to rehabilitate Princess Luna, the first evidence of this being him becoming a founding member of the Royal Guard Oubliettes and Ogres club. (IDW Comics #11-#12, Buck Nothing, Operation Shield)
After his mother Lilly Withers was discovered on the Canterlot mountainside and brought to a hospital, he was awakened from his sleep to visit her In the hospital, Buck learned that indeed his father had been an Agent of Chaos and was already dead thanks to a betrayal by them as well as his mother fighting for her own life thanks to the terrible abuse she suffered. A few days later, he learned that his mother had died too, and the same night was the target of an assassination attempt by Agent 21. Shining Armor saved him from being killed by the Agent, and Buck subsequently received leave time to allow him to properly mourn and bury his mother. (Pocketful of Posies)
Later, Buck himself is seen as part of the Oubliettes and Ogres group founded by Shining Armor in In Praise of Twilight - by this point, Cadance had joined the group as well, although this apparently didn't cause problems with the rest of the group.
He attended the exhibition of Rarity's dressmaking talent in Hoity Toity's Canterlot gallery and helped thwart the attack there. Later, the LARP group he was a part of was attacked by "Mr. Hoofer", apparently in direct retribution for the thwarting of the previous attack. (High Fashion High Noon)
Buck Withers was also caught up in "Operation Whirlwind", a target for retribution by Agents of Chaos. He was apparently only saved from retributive attack during Agent Cruelty's operation due to being an earth pony, when unicorns were the specific target of the attack. (Rainboom Revolution)
He briefly appears as part of the Canterlot Oubliettes and Ogres group in The Crusaders, where Shining Armor explains to him the motivations of Lieutenant Troilus in his anti-pegasi campaign. We also see him as part of the group in Phoenix Down, where we learn he was interviewed by Lieutenant Troilus attempting to persuade him to spy on Shining Armor.
Buck Withers was involved in Operation Just Cause, which was commanded by Shining Armor. He served under Lieutenant Vanguard for the duration of the mission, making two important contributions: one being the discovery of the lone rebel survivor in "Fort Beta" and the other being a lead figure in the ground assault on "Fort Alpha". (A Just Cause)
Shortly after Discord's attack on Equestria, Buck Withers proposed marriage to Lemony Gems, which she accepted. After reporting this news to other members of the Canterlot Oubliettes and Ogres group, he accepted an idea that would use his own wedding ceremony to iron out problems that might crop up in the one intended between Shining Armor and Cadance. (Zero Point)
